A very interesting fact of why the 426 Hemi was designed go's back to the 1963 G-N Title where our beloved NASCAR screwed Richard Petty out of his 1sttitle which was rightfully his as he had the most points for that year in less races .. so Dodge told everyone if we can't beat you fair then we will justoutrun you.. so the proto-type was given to Richard Petty to run in the 1964 Daytona 500 but from what i have read the engine needed alot of work on the headsto make them fit without blowing head gaskets.. also lead was added to the rear bumper to keep the wheels from spinning at top speed.. it was said this engineadded 50 mph to the topend speed at Daytona .. Dodge never got screwedagain!!

F-NASCAR

My old man use to race a 426 hemi dart here in Ohio back in the late 60's-early 70's at Norwalk Raceway,Quaker city,Thompson,Dragway42.I believe it wasthe drag version w/glass fenders & hood, allum. interior & 1 seat. The car would scare the hell out of me when he fired it. Ran 10.90's. Any of youOhio guys remember the old "Kilbane Dodge" Dart? My favorite at the track was after my old man was Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, GrumpysToy.....dave
