Ok question about Ebay?
Ok how much would fees be or how much would ebay lose if all of the people who are selling (in their mind) the Mona Lisa of collectibles actually put a moremodest price on their stuff or actually didnt post beaters for $100?

It isnt just redlines or diecast. I look at alot of different items out there (lots of people in my family collect) and it is amazing what people want foritems. But we all know this, what I want to know is do you think ebay would fold without them or would the fees be even more outragous?

Post your opinion.

Ebay is making tons of money off these idiots. I think that ebay would still be in the black without these idiots posting junk at highprices . Remember, many people don't know squat about their own old items. They list a beater for 100 dollars a few times and eventually , they realizeits not worth that because it did not sell. They probably think that a desperate person would place a high bid. So that is why they list it. I used to informthese naive idiots that they will never get that amount for their junk but I stopped when I realized that idiots like this help keep fees down for nice, honestsellers like me..... Thank you Mr. Idiot seller. (or Ms. Idiot seller.)

So if you sell, do NOT inform those idiots that the headless 1964 gi joe w/ melt marks all over is not worth 225.00!

maribell

Don't forget all of those folks who are listing junk that nobody wants for $1 an item. And listing it over and over again, even though it almostnever sells. And on the rare occasion that it does sell, the fees pretty much wipe out any money made! A good-size chunk of eBay's revenue comesfrom these idiots, too. Gotta love 'em!

Kevin

I've seen a paticular item I've personally tracked...worth about $50-$75, being listed for $440 for at least a year and a half now!!!

Colin

If you want to see how much money, just go to yahoo finance, type in EBAY for stock ticker, then go to insider selling....mere hundreds of millions of optionsbeing SOLD!

Now I find that those that list stuff for 1 penny are bigger idiots. More than half of the crap doesn't sell or gets onebid. I once won a cd for 1 penny. I bid 3 dollars and no one else bid. The shipping was cheap, around 1.75. The seller lost money on the transaction. Don't these people realize that their time is worth money too... and the paypal fees, they are even more outrageous than the Ebay fees .

anyway, like I said, IDIOTS help keep ebay fees down. As for people that pay 440.oo for a 75 dollar item, I don't feel sorry for them at all. Theyshould do their homework....

maribell

eBay encourages this. If you are going to list (which I haven't in forever) they force you to take your first 5 every month for free with a higher backend.

When I listed I started 90% of my auctions at .99 cents. 9.9% at maybe $9.99 and rarely over that.

Now, for my first 5, to make up for the lost back end, I'd list 5 items at high end retail to get them out of the way. You can't avoid them unless youlist through a service outside of eBay. So I'd list something at $100 that i might expect $75 for but I'm not willing to take $75 for right now. Ifsomeone wants to "step up" great, if not, I'm out nothing.

You get to scroll through a ton of worthless auctions. It's eBay's fault.
