Any Direct TV Experiences?

I'm currently using Optimum Online cable for TV, Internet, and phone, and paying around $160 for two TV boxes, dvr, Showtime and HBO.<br><br>Verizon told me they could give me the same package with a strange bundle until FIOS comes along. Same as above for around $130. I don't think it's worth it. The bundle is DSL for internet/phone, and Direct TV satellite for TV. I get all this through one line right now. The internet reviews on Direct TV look to be mainly negative.<br><br>FIOS, on the other hand, is all fiber optic. When that becomes available I will be looking into that for sure.<br>

I got it and love it. The only issues we have is that if bad weather comes around, which here in Tulsa is popular, we loose signal for a while. But, that seems to happen with the over the air TV channels on the television that doesn't have satellite. Never had any problems in the 5 years we have had it.<br>

Had it for years. I like it a lot better than cable. When I installed my OWN dish in Nor-Cal I never had weather problems. I let the DTV guys do it here and yeah, I get the cut-out when real bad weather hits. And their customer service is great.<br><br>

<p>I've been a customer for almost 6 yrs now &amp; would NEVER go back to cable. As mentioned, in extremely bad weather it has cut out but that isn't often at all &amp; that's really saying alot, living here in New England. Dish TV is very similar to Direct TV but a little cheaper, I suppose. Around $78/mo for a roof dish, 1 dvr, 2 color-coded remotes, Showtime, HBO &amp; TMC. Stormy weather or static air causes some minor crackles on screen (pixels going large, for instance), but never have any cut-outs. We had Comcast cable &amp; hated it! Booo!</p>

How's the HD on it?

My mother in law has Dish or Direct TV (don't know for sure which) but she lost signal when we had one of the snows down here in North Texas just last month. She had heard that if you spray your satellite dish with "PAM" that the snow won't stick to it and you won't lose signal. Well, about a week went by and we got hit with a foot of snow.......you guessed it, she HAD signal, so it worked! (Of course I was the one elected to go up on the roof and spray the thing)

That's the thing I'm concerend about-overall ease of use and performance. We have 4 wireless computers in this house, a phone line, and a couple of hundred channels all coming through one box. Download speed is great. If I go with the "bundle" I will have to switch to DSL which is problematic here due to my distance from the central phone switch. I've heard of some speed issues with it from people here on Long Island.<br><br>
I may just stick with what I have since it all works right now, saving $30 a month doesn't seem like a good tradeoff. Plus, I don't want to hang a dish off the house and have to deal with more external equipment, hardware, drilling, etc. When FIOS comes along I will surely investigate. Thanks for the input!
