Anybody here going to sit through the Oscars on Sunday?
Best Picture will have to be "The Hurt Locker." The two big sci-fi nominated films were fantastic, and "Avatar" will change our standard for CGI-heavy films from here forward. "The Road" got screwed here without a nomination, but the Weinsteins did an excellent job of not selling that movie properly. "Inglorious Basterds" was fun, but there simply wasn't enough Jews-killing-Nazis, which is what we paid to see, nor was there very much of the actual Basterds themselves. "Locker" just has the best story of all, and its authenticity is unmatched by the others. Actor should be Renner, as a real up-and-comer, but Mortensen here is also a remnant of the "Road" void in marketing, and would have been a shoe-in. Actress needs to go to Mulligan from "An Education." Sidibe ("Precious") was pretty incredible, but she's young and fairly without her chops, and that should work against her here. Why Bullock is even on this list (or her movie nominated) is beyond me. Mo'Nique is a serious contender for Supporting in "Precious," as is Waltz in "Basterds." Art Direction's definitely going to "Avatar." Director is a tough one, but my vote is for Bigelow with "Locker." What an important movie; the fact that it's the best Iraq-based war film isn't even up for debate. Documentary should (and probably will) go to "The Cove," which is just a terrifying piece of film, and is just as enlightening as it is aggravating.<br>These are some of my opinions; what say all of you?<br><br>
