Great cover. When I was born in '61 my siblings were 8, 10 and 17. Earliest memories are of my brother's 45s of Snoopy vs the Red Baron, and of Surfin' Bird by The Trashmen. Then I got into my sister's Beatles 45s and I was off and running.
Charlie,
Yours was so well known that I can remember most of the lyrics like it was yesterday.
Mine would have to be She'd Rather Be With Me by The Turtles. When I was a kid, it was my first 45 record and my older sister bought it for me.
I am finally going to see The Turtles (Flo & Eddie) this month here in town.
John
For me it was "Dream Weaver" by Gary Wright. Not exactly childhood but just pre-teen.

For some reason that song was on the radio stations playlist for the time my alarm clock would go off each morning. Having a radio alarm clock was big stuff in that year! As I think about it that may not have been a fond memory because I hated getting up in the morning.

Herb

I just checked and that song came out when I was thirteen. Not pre teen. Now that I think about it I can't remember anything before that age? lol
The first song I can remember really liking as a kid was 'Fox on the Run' by Sweet because it was constantly being played on a jukebox at a diner I used to go to.

My first was when I was about 2 & The Beatles 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' was the song that I would sing & loved. I remember The Doors 'Light My Fire' being another that I that stayed with me. I hate to admit it but I loved The Partridge Family show & songs.....'I Think I Love You'.....'Dosen't Somebody Want To Be Wanted' & 'Little Willy' by Sweet was also one of my all time favs as a kid.

My Dad was and is a Grand Funk fan and "Shinin On" was one that reminds me of those long ago days! Love that killer 3D cover art too!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnRU_rWJ0sE

The whole family would listen to it on our Philco Ford TV with built in turntable console!!!!

I used to also like to listen to my mom and dads old 78's and 45's...Chubby Checker the most!
