I Thought ALL Threads From the Old Board Were Transferred ?

I was sifting back through some older threads in the Greatest Hits section, and there's a real mess on threads that are older. (?) Sure, maybe all the threads are here, but the information within the older threads is a mess.

I'm not talking about broken picture links, but entire copy missing from the entire thread. A lot of the copy is just replaced with the person's banner. I'm finding this quite prevalent. This is a prime example (only because I remember what was posted ....

Too bad the old board couldn't have at least been left fully intact for viewing.

I think what they were able to bring was Amazing. The work was very tedious and from what I have read it was cutom made software. That alone is very cool. I have seen this too but we can get it all back. We may need to restart a thread on whatever is missing and I love see the pics so we need that too.

I miss the old board.

In greatest hits I personally had a large thread with many pics that did not get transferred because I used that thread to test our software. I would say that at least 99% of the threads were successfully transferred if not more then that. Most communities that moved away from Yuku started fresh with no data moved over. We are one of the very few communities if not the only community that successfully moved all of the data over and converted it from Yuku's proprietary format to PHP.
Furthermore Yuku implemented many roadblocks to prevent communities from taking their own data with them that were able to get around with our custom software. Thousands of communities have posted queries about how to get away from Yuku. Few if any have done it while keeping almost all of the data intact. The move from Yuku was vital in order to implement a proper auction platform. The effort to move the boards and accomplish this step put us several months behind schedule to the next step but it has and is worth the extra time to do every step as good as can possibly be done.

It's very hard to convert out of a proprietary format. Getting more than 90% is quite an accomplishment.

It requires a huge amount of perserverance. It is the classic case of diminishing returns for additional effort. In the beginning you might work for a month, and in that 1st month develop tools that will handle, say, 50%. Unfortunately none of those tools are much help with the remaining 50%. So you might work for another month, and in that 2nd month develop tools that will handle, say, an additional 20%. The 3rd month of work might get you another 10%. The month after that, maybe 5%, and so on. Even if time and money are no object, there is no guarantee you will succeed in getting 100%. At some point you may realize that no matter what you try - you might not get whatever is remaining.

Mark, we still have access to that old info but I'm not sure how easy it is to bring it over. Sid or Donald may be able to answer that.

I, for one, appreciate all the work and efforts Sid and his team have done for the new Redlines Online.

All of these transformations free of charge to it's members? Unreal. I am sure this was very costly to do.

But have a lot of respect for what they achieved here and still let us keep come together at a board like this!!
The big trick is: Time!! After a few years nobody knows how it was!!
