I find having them is useless. You'll get what it is worth. And if you do have a reserve why not tell bidders what it is. I hate the guessing game. A bit juvenille. Thoughts?

Reserves are a very good thing for the seller and to be honest I truly don't believe in the what it sells for is what it's worth mentality. There've been many board members that have gotten great steals off of ebay including myself. I'd doubt a purple charger with 3 pinpoints and gorgeous paint is worth only 90 bucks. When/if I ever sell on ebay I'll definitely be using reserves as some of the gems just slip through the crack. Heck just a couple days ago Earl scored on a white interior dune daddy. The deals are out there and basically after all thios rambling, this sums up my post. Reserves are good for the seller, but bad/ok for the buyer.
I won't bid on an auction with a reserve. That means the seller has set the price in his/her head already. They are not allowing us to set the price. Waste of time IMO.
I agree with George reserves are useless put a buy it now price on it if you have a price you want to get otherwhise let it ride after all it is an auction.
I'll bid on a reserve auction just to sniff out the reserve sometimes. Of course I'm always willing to pay what I bid if I end up the winner. To me; what's the difference. If you want it, bid what your willing to pay.?
Seller pays a fee (ebay) listing an item with a reserve, probably would not bid anyway if you thought it was too high. Right? IMO, basically a wash with the seller paying a little more trying to protect their investment.
points well taken I can see a reserve if youre a new seller and not many buyers know you yet, but I hear all the time " I wont bid on reserves" to each their own.
You know, topics like this can be... I think reserve auctions are just fine as are Buy It Now auctions and even the standard old let it ride auction. If you are unsure about what something is worth but you invested a fair amount, by all means put a reserve if you don't want to risk loosing a lot. And for those who pass by auctions with reserves, too bad because these will have reserves...

nice!
I agree with George too. If you know the value of the car, put a BIN on it not a reserve on an auction. If you aren't sure of the value but have a "minimum price" below which you won't sell the car, just start the auction at that amount. Reserves really do scare away bidder like it or not that's the truth.
There are only a very, very HWs that would warrant an auction with reserve price IMO ... I'm talking prototype type cars. Items which have no real known value AND could end up "sky's the limit" with the right bidders getting involved AND the seller has a significant investment in the item and does not want to risk letting it go at a loss.
