Looks like I may have a new favorite show....
Just saw an advertisment for a new show on the History Channel, starting on Monday.... Rick Dale the guy who does all the restorations for the Pawn Stars crew has his own show now called American Restoration. I have always been facinated with restoring things and making the old look better than new..... Its right up my alley!!! Heres a link to a preview/trailer for the show.
DVR is set to record the series!!!

Sounds like a good show, thanks for the heads up...

I'll check it out. I'd like to ask him about how I would go about getting a new globe for the gum ball machine I posted not long ago. He does a great job. It's always impressive to see a guy that does that nice of work.
No way the Pawn Shop is paying what they do and then pay a professional restorer and still making a profit though. Still, if you realize they are all a show, they are interesting.

Mama is going to be happy as hell when she hears this news. Everytime we watch Pawn Stars she finds something else to do until Rick Dale comes on and then she is so attentive that she doesn't hear me speak when I talk to her.

I'm pumped for the show, looks like a good one.

Have you been watching the show? So far they make some good money on most items, they always share how much they paid, how much the restore costs and how much they are asking for the finished item, and I have not seen them lose any money yet.
Re: Looks like I may have a new favorite show....
Yes I watched it. I watched them put a ton in the old "Indian" mini bike. They had something like 6k in it. On a good day, since it was nice it might bring $1500. That bike was Indian in name only. Sold by the truck load made in places like Taiwan in the 70's. As bought it was maybe a $50 bike.
But as I said, for what they gave him Rick did an excellent job on it.
No doubt they can make good money on many of the items they take in. I still say the money is not there in purchase and paying someone else to professionally restore it.
Re: Looks like I may have a new favorite show....
Ah, it's a TV show, and that means they are getting paid for that TV show. That is why they can pay X amount, restore it to top shape, thus "turning" a profit, or so they say. Kinda like American Pickers, they show an amount, but I wanna see the "sold" price, not what they "think" it's now worth. Kinda of a ripoff there.
For the Pawn guys, they can shoot 6 episodes for about $20K, sell them to whatever network for about 60K per. So, on the 20K, you return 120K on the sold shows. They can restore all kinds of toys with that bankroll. And welcome to reality TV.......
Re: Looks like I may have a new favorite show....
Sure, but it sure messes sometimes with the reality market. "I saw one on TV they said was worth......."
Re: Looks like I may have a new favorite show....
Exactly, that's why I would much rather see the SOLD price, over what it's valued at, crap. The American Picker guys have junk on Ebay, and I don't see anything that is from the show. They might actually being holding on to it at this point. Economy is down, they get paid for the show, they can just house the stuff, until after the show is done and the economy is better.
Everybody likes a good treasure hunt, and couch potatoes are no different. I'd rather one up all of them, see some chics in bikini's, making these deals. Enough with fat guys already. Just show me the junk, have Ginger & MaryAnn talk about it, and move along already. Can't believe these guys are renewed season after season. Then again, who thought making stupid "theme" bikes woulda afforded OC Choppers the fame they enjoyed. It's not brain surgery, to produce a hit show. Couple a fatguys, mix in an argument here and there, show the kids something shiny, done.
