Nasty fake "Windows security" virus. Even in safe mode. Help!
Got myself a big one. Does anyone have some good virus removing advice?
I tried to open in safe mode and scan with malwarebytes, but even in safe mode it pops up and tries to get me to register my windows. It opens multiple windows and won't let me do anything. I can take some screenshots if it helps. Is anyone good at this stuff?

There's a version of a major (AVG I think) anti-virus program that you boot from the disk. It'll clean it up and allow you to run normally and install a normal program. If you've got a clean computer you cab d/l it to a disk and run it on the infected one. Wish I could remember the particulars. Sorry I can't be more help.

I'd take it to a computer expert and have them move your files temporarily to a new drive, then have your computer wiped and reloaded.

That's what I did the last time. I don't have the patience.

I kept at it, and tried this and that, and I'm not sure what worked, but something did. WOOHOO, it's gone!

My home desktop computer has Windows Vista. It has several separate accounts for different users. Well, one user's account got infected just like you described. I created a new account for that user and transferred any files (photos, documents, program files, etc) I downloaded on my portable hard drive. And then I deleted the corrupted user's account. Then I ran avg and malwarebytes programs to double check. Clean. Problem solved.

One of the best ways to remove viruses: get a Mac!
Then you won't have to worry about viruses in the first place.
Cheers (and good luck)!

There's also that outrageous pricetag thing. Funny, as I type this, the PC guy from the commercial is a guest on Craig Ferguson. Seriously tho, I can't justify that kind of cash for a computer.
