Total U.S. Oil Independance By 2020...?
Link: http://www.thenewamerican.com/tech/energy/item/13639-energy-boom-will-make-us-largest-oil-producer-by-2020
That's what they were saying on the radio last night... I hadn't heard anything about THAT until now.
Not only independance from foreign oil,...but the worlds LARGEST net exporter by 2030.
Now THAT'S the way to stick it to the Saudis and OPEC... :D
Problem is,...is that Alberta will go broke again! :( ...
...which is what happens there regularly with the wild fluctuations in the world price...
If all this is true,...this pipeline that's all the rage will become useless, unless it can be used as a conduit to export oil worldwide via the U.S. as running a line through B.C. is proving to become a problem as many entities have thrown up roadblocks due to environmental concerns.
These concerns are not without merit as we all know what happens with these pipelines and tankers full of oil in open seas,...not to mention offshore platforms...
Gulf of Mexico anyone...? Railcars full going into a lake in the west... That river in Michigan recently... Valdez...
It's endless. Most native groups won't have a pipeline running through their land...
On the bright side though... If the U.S. can hang on for a few years without going over the so called 'cliff',...the economy will absolutely boom! And when the U.S. economy booms,...so does Canada's!
The U.S. debt to China could be WIPED OUT in no time,...and not by paying them with cash,...but rather with tankers full of oil!
The trend now is that all new tankers are to be built double hulled...
Ol' Jed Clampett's gonna be rich again,...and they'll have to make an updated Beverly Hillbillys series... :D
Is all this TRUE?
No pun intended,...but it sure doesn't SOUND like a big pipe dream...
...other than the big pipe dreams come true in Washington and Colorado... :D
Re: Total U.S. Oil Independance By 2020...?
obama killed the keystone pipeline, at this rate the only thing we'll be is oil dependent. by 2020 al gore will be the only one with electricity and everyone else will have windmills on their front lawn. solar panels are now a thing of the past since all our taxpayer money was given to 20 something solar companies that went belly up.

Not all of the solar panel companies went belly up. The keystone pipeline was put on hold because of the projected path. It would have went over the largest underground water supply for the entire Midwest. What would have happened to a large water supply in the case of a spill or breakage during record droughts? Not that oil companies ever have accidents.

Not everyone is unemployed but millions are. Drill baby drill!!! Notice all of the oil being drilled is on private land. Standard of living in North Dakota is on the rise and very low unemployment. Go figure! Greenies are going crazy over this fracking process but so far so good.
Re: Total U.S. Oil Independance By 2020...?
Personally,...I'm really 'clicking my heels happy' for the U.S. if all this is true... I'm really tired of hearing the constant bad news about the economy...It's totally draining on the spirit hearing about hungry folks, mortgage forclosures, the unemployment rate, the $16 Trillion and growing debt,...the implications for other countries tied to the U.S. etc......
As far as the green thing goes,....THAT is my favorite colour,...no wonder I'm one of those... But I AM realistic too... Just let's NOT make such a big freakin' mess of the place... I don't mind paying a bit more for things just as long as I know the place is being respected...
Keystone pipeline shoddily built over the huge water table mentioned above.... NOT a good idea... If not for the humans who live there,...at LEAST for the flora and fauna...
Failing solar panel and green energy companies...? Why did 'W' sink so much cash into THAT????... because even THAT dummy had some foresight... Holding hands with rich oil sheikhs on TV...not good P.R.
Gary,...fracking seems to be freeing up an amazing amount of otherwise unretrievable gas and oil,...but it's NOT without it's problems.... Just ask the folks in Pennsylvania who turn on their kitchen taps, or shower,...and get a FLAME THROWER instead... :D NOT to mention that one town where a several square mile section of it caved in...
It has it's problems,...as other new technologies,...but they are constantly being improved...
Look at Germany,...THEY are total leaders when it comes to all this,...and THEY are an economic superpower... Pretty sure they wouldn't be on this path of green energy if all it was,...was a flash in the pan... (no pun intended Pennsylvania!)
Really,...I'm genuinely happy for you guys if all this is true... Just don't make a BIG mess of the place,....and make sure the wealth gets spread around...
Heck even Alberta, the red neckiest,...right wingiest place you'll find in ALL of Canada,....2nd only to Grey-Bruce, where I live,.....is a Socialist State.... YES,....Alberta....Socialist in the sense that the oil wealth is partially distributed equally among the population by there being NO provincial sales taxes there...
Not to mention the Heritage Fund....
Oooopss...did I just say 'distributed equally',...... THAT is an Obamanism,...if I'm correct in saying so... :D
(Ed Stelmack,....YOU are a butthead for lowering the provincial revenue on oil from 3% to 2%,...or is that from $3 to $2 per barrel,...just to appease the oil companies. Did you REALLY think they'd pack up and pull out IDIOT...????)
Peter Loughheed,...a right wing past Premier of Alberta, had the formula RIGHT concerning royalties from oil, and that Stelmack fool MESSED it all up!!!
Lougheed was one righty who had MY respect... ESPECIALLY since his office PERSONALLLY helped me get a job!

Hey Gary, the fracing is going very strong in North Dakata. The problem for them there is that 85% of the fracing companies there are from Canada.I know of at least 200 plus people from here in my home town that are there as we speak. And a couple
of them are managing the shops that have been build there.I had a offer to there myself to run one of the stations but declined.I frac'd for over 20 years, there is really good money to be made with those companies, and that work is pretty easy.
And for the others that posted here the Keystone pipeline is far from being dead and the problem with the US oil & gas industry is(sorry buts it true)The US oil & gas industry is so far behind in the technical advances that it just cost's them to much money to get the stuff out of the ground. It's still cheaper for the States to get it's supply of oil and gas from other contries. Also the Gas in the states is very dirty,we have much..much cleaner burning gas in Canada. This is about is about the simplest way I can put it as I know theres alot more to it but I just don't feel like writing a 5000 word post at the moment.
Re: Total U.S. Oil Independance By 2020...?
And Andy......I'm going to just ask you one question if thats ok with you.
I'm curious what you do for a living,do you work and the Oil & Gas industry or is your knowledge just from what you read in the papers and magazines or from the internet???
Not trying to stir anything up here,I'm just curious.....thats all.

Romance writer?
Re: Total U.S. Oil Independance By 2020...?
Sure,....not taking it as you have a wooden spoon or ladle in your hand,...I am a Process Server and a Law Clerk.....
If you're not sure as to what that is,...that's preparing and filing court documents, the serving them on people. Sometimes that includes, 'finding' people to serve said documents on who don't want to be found. The Law Clerk part involves endless reading boring volumes searching out case law and precedents for lawyers.
Oil and Gas Industry worker on up through executive,...Nope!!! The closet I've come to working a job even remote to that, was working for Parker-Hannifin (you might know the name) in a warehouse in Edmonton shipping out various fittings and supplies to the oil patch...
I've had and do have several buddies who in fact did and do work on rigs in Alberta,...from roughnecks on up to drillers...but even though the money was and is incredible, being stuck in the middle of nowhere doing 2 and 3 weeks straight of 12s,...isn't my cup of tea so to speak...
In answer to your other question...let's first look at this word 'just' as in...."or is your knowledge 'just' from"...
Sounds kinda like a set-up for a 'gotcha' moment... and if my answer was yes,...I get it from The Sun newspaper or new Sun TV network,.... you'd certainly have me...
I get my 2nd hand knowledge from credible and un-biased sources. I don't want to hear from BP about how much they're taking care of the under-sea and coastal environment of the Gulf of Mexico,...or how Shell Oil is protecting the environment and the indigenous Ogoni People in the Niger Delta...when they're not pulling strings behind the scenes in conjuntion with the Nigerian Government and the British Foreign Office to 'string up' activists like Ken Saro-Wiwe,...who was peacefully opposing Shell's intrusion into and the destruction and poisoning of their traditional lands..... not to mention not even 'sharing' any of the profits with, or using some of it, to restore the environment there.
That reminds me Rick,...it about time for my annual call to Shells Canadian CEO's office to remind them why I no longer and haven't for decades, wittingly buy any of their products.... Actually, it's really no longer as annual as it was there for quite a number of years,....but being that it's been about 3 or 4, maybe I should call...again. They get all excited when I call, and sometimes return my call with various explanations as to why I should return as a customer, and how they're working with the Nigerians and other entities world-wide to ensure their environmentally sound and ethicallly minded extraction of said oil...
PBS, TVO, CBC,...others,...must be credible, un-biased, and not controlled monetarily by Corporate America...
Jeff old boy,....I know I've probably lost you at this point,....but...
..maybe you should stick to your part-time job as telephone debt collector...

Re: Total U.S. Oil Independance By 2020...?
Did someone say oil?
Surprised no one had brought up ANWR yet. Personally I would like to see it drilled even though the actual impact on oil prices or dependence on foreign oil would be negligible. If nothing else, it would be a great economic push to Alaska. The battle to drill ANWR has been raging for decades...and is extremely partisan. The Republicans want the oil money and the Democrats don't want the land or wildlife disturbed.
