So...what do you think of lance armstrong?

In the wake of him going on Oprah, I have seen and read many reports but the most unnerving is the one from 60 Minutes last week.

I was floored.

What do you think of him now that he finally admits to lying and doping for all the years?

He's still a POS but I have to commend him for his cancer charity even though it was founded on fraud

I have been a fan of cycling and have enjoyed the moments over the past decade. The personalities and the politics of racing, and to be able to cheer a US funded team was even more enjoyable.
He was tested and he said he didn't dope. 100% bought it and never considered it even a gray area. I believed his words.

2 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer.

So I have family support, but the fact that this man went through cancer treatments, and even walked down the same hallway at IU cancer center in Indianapolis, I can find hope and realize that I can get through this.
LIVESTRONG became a hope to hang onto. Excellent website information, that I have used and have steered others to as well.

His survival story along with his cycling and come back to cycling, took me to hero worship status. Honesty, and when it started to become clear the facts were going to reveal a much different story then he had stated for years.

Crushed....

LIVESTRONG deserves to remain a place that people can visit and get the information and help they seek.

Fuzz, so sorry to hear about your cancer, but am glad that Livestrong has given you a network and support. We've met before at the Red Barn shows in Dayton and I've always appreciated your contributions over the years. I wish you continued success in your treatment and recovery.

Regarding Lance, for those of us who race bikes on sanctioned teams, we've known about this stuff for 7-8 years now. None of the recent revelations are a surprise. The dots have been there to be connected for a long time now. At the professional level when Lance was racing, doping was an institutional part of the culture that went all the way to the top. It was not possible to even be mid pack fodder without doping. I don't condone it, but I get why guys did it after reaching that level and being faced with the choice to give it all up or join in just to save what they had worked for all of their life. Where I really lost respect for Lance was in the way in which he destroyed anyone who got in his way or questioned him. He ruined a lot of lives and careers.

I have a good friend who recently beat testicular cancer, here are his words from FB:
"As a testicular cancer survivor, I believe I'm entitled to say that Lance Armstrong is an ******* and an embarrassment to the cancer community. You were given a second chance at life to go back to doing the same stuff that was killing you. That goes against everything I believe now. Enjoy being hated!"

I am glad you are getting through this. Regarding my "founded on fraud" comment... It was, he used his cancer as a vehicle to make people believe he was legitimate and used his "good" name to start an organization. Livestrong is tainted merchandise right now, I will just leave it at that. Why do you think Livestrong distanced themselves so quickly from him? As a matter of fact, Livestrong in under investigation. It would apppear that the $100M they raised is not all accounted for. Livestrong is a organization that contributes the least to cancer research per actual amount raised if you check figures so where is that money going or went???

There also is the question whether Armstrong's use of certain banned substances actually gave him the cancer or made it worse
