Hopeless Openfire Base Repaired!

This one came to me a faded, broken mess in a large lot. Fortunately, once the engine was off, it turned out to be a faded magenta -- and not a faded red! <img src="http://eric-peterson.org/images/MyCustomDiecast/OpenFireFix/OF1.jpg" style="border:0;"> This is the same Openfire that I used for the "color experiments" previously posted, now a nice medium blue. Here's what the base looked like -- the entire rear portion aft of the axle is missing. <img src="http://eric-peterson.org/images/MyCustomDiecast/OpenFireFix/OF2.jpg" style="border:0;"> Ah, but I had just traded a corroded Gremlin Grinder body to another customizer, leaving me with this... <img src="http://eric-peterson.org/images/MyCustomDiecast/OpenFireFix/OF3.jpg" style="border:0;"> I removed all the metal from the Openfire base from the axis of the axle aft and from the "top" of the cast-in axle detail. I ground off the axle detail from the Gremlin Grinder base and cut it along the axis of the axle. Clean and polish both bits...a little super glue... a little JB Weld... and a little Alclad... and I have this: <img src="http://eric-peterson.org/images/MyCustomDiecast/OpenFireFix/OF6.jpg" style="border:0;"> I intentionally left the rear-most portions of the Gremlin's wheel backing plates intact, because once clearcoated the extra shine of the Alclad will dull a bit and the distinction between repair and base parts will fade. I wanted it to be recognizeable as a repair if someone compares it to another Openfire. - E
