Steering rig resto
It's not a redline, but I thought I would give some new life into a few of my beat up steering rigs in my collection. Not completed yet, waiting on some decals and the small details, my attempt at a army style tanker. Paint Chrysler commando green (jeep color) As a automotive painter by trade I have the privilege of any color choice I want and base clear paint. Thanks for the view!

Re: Steering rig resto
You know....I didn't realize how good looking those castings are. Even if one were just polished out it would be sweet. Darn you Phil now I am going to have to get one

Re: Steering rig resto
Haha thanks! Yeah I wanted to do something different, haven't seen an army steering rig so I thought I would make a couple for my collection.

Re: Steering rig resto
To be honest, after I stripped them both, I thought the same thing. A raw metal body would be awesome! Stay tuned I have a few more bodies to do after I'm done the army group.

Re: Steering rig resto
I prefer the unpainted base version (except for the wheels), just looks nicer (though probably not as realistic). Have you thought of doing other trucking schemes that Mattel didn't get to do on this line ? I have done some googling on brands like England, even the older Wal-Mart trucks, etc, trying to get some ideas in the past as the Steering Rigs line could have really gone to another 20-30 different color/tampo releases. P.S. It's a custom not a resto :)

Re: Steering rig resto
Thanks guys for the feedback! Yes I actually have done some research on some other schemes as I have 4 other rigs that I have to get "customized" ;). I guess in the end there will be a line of 6 of my own steering rig creations. Might have to find some boxes (or someone that can make packaging for them). I have ordered decals for the trucks just waiting on them, and I do have some finishing up, (unpainted base needs detail and black rims, re riveted etc. I'm hoping to have them done this week. Then I will be on to the kenworth cabover. Hint: it will be a freight company. :)
