California...
So today same sex marriage is allowed in California.
The Californian voters voted 61% to maintain marriage as between one man and one woman.
The Supreme (in their own minds) Court overrode what the people want, and declared it unconstitutional...
I thought we were a representative democracy?
Get ready, this will be coming to your state soon.
I guess you can now marry your sister or brother if you have the desire. Or how about your mother?
Dog? Cat? Goat?
It's a very sad day indeed, in my opinion...
Makes you wonder why you even bother to vote...

So Scott are you for gay marriage or against it??

Just for the record I am Against it, God did not put man and woman here so they could love each other in this way!! Not that Gods intent was for man and womanto spend arm in arm under the same roof the the rest of there lives that's just crazy.....I was joking....

Anyway it's just wrong, I don't want to see two men kissing (Just typing that makes me sick) or two women kissing (that did not hurt as bad). Howwould you like shopping at the store and here are two gay guys macking out in front of the corn??? Not a good thing.

We cannot stop gay people from there gay stuff but to give them the thumbs up and go spread the gay all over free and so on is not going to help. There is noneed for the state of California to allow gay people to get married.

It's morally wrong to be gay, it's socially unacceptable and should stay that way, it's not healthy, it's not good for our children to see andthink it's ok to be gay.

There is just something wrong in the brain for two men or women to want to kiss each other and then do other things that are unmentionable here on this site.

Don't' get me wrong I know there is more to the gay then just kissing and sex, but it's a part of the gay thing and you can't take it away andsay that oh they just want to be together and hold hands (this is wrong to) I'm not going to buy it.

So.......... stop it, just stop it, stop stop stop, don't do that.......stop the gay stuff!!

...........just stop it....!!

The Decay of our social and moral Fiber, is what we are allowing to happen.

When mom and Dad can't spank there kids, the kids have no moral standard to live by and take guns to school and kill. It's not helping when they bothhave to work ether.....

It's the same thing to say it's OK to be gay!! now we have gay kids boys/girls kissing in the playground???

If it's a medical thing then maybe we need to find some way to treat it!!

P.S. If they don't cover there mouth I just might say something like you should cover your mouth when you cough!!

The stupid is strong with this thread.

Scott, we are a representative democracy. Hence the term "representative." It does not imply "majority rules." If theoutcome is not what the voters want, you have the ability to change representatives.

It was a sad state of affairs to see that legal Gay marriage in California was the top news story yesterday afternoon and this morning, dominatingall of the major Networks in L.A., not sure about the cable news channels tho.........

I think that the Gay community is just wasting their time and money, as yet another initiative will be on the ballot to strike it down again in November, andit will pass again, just as it did in Cali in 2000........

Then what?

To each their own, i've always said, but for the record, i'm not a big fan of it........

I just don't understand how this will negatively impact anyone's lives. Are gays making out in the produce section today? Are straights? Please getyour heads on straight (no pun intended). Such unnecessary fears consume way too much energy which could be used for something more productive in life.

And again, yes we live in a democracy but the founding fathers were compassionate enough to include a Constitution which protects the rights of minority groupsfrom the majority. It bothers me how this fundamental building block of our nation gets forgotten and pushed to the side.

Threads like this used to get my blood boiling; now they leave me with great sadness...

Jeff
Gay marriages have been legal here for a few years now. My life didn't change in any way once it was legalized. My next door neighbours are gay but that would only bother me if they made outin their front yard. For years my son thought they were brothers because they live together. He now knows they're gay (but only understands the word tomean that two men or two women live together). I don't see anything wrong with being gay or lesbian, to each their own, but to legally marry? I thinkthat's going a bit far. Men aren't supposed to marry men and women aren't supposed to marry women but that's just my opinion.

~Karen

Repainted pink Rolls Royces upset me far more than homosexuals, their interests, or their right to wed. And I don't even care for the casting. The worldhas many variances in culture; this is just one more. I keep myself out of others' personal business, and this is really none of mine, especially when youconsider that homosexuals don't hold hands, make out or get naked in public any more than heteros do. While earning my undergrad, I had a gay roommate inthe dorms (Lou); a decent chap, plucked his eyebrows, smelled of Nair from across the room and had a boyfriend; no big deal. I own my house, old but very nice, and it sits beside that of two gay men, both polite gents and their sexuality has as much influence on the mood or tone of the neighborhood as mine does; goodfor them, and, really, I could give a damn.

I certainly respect those who have differing views...that's what makes America a great country...but I'm curious now...let's say we have fellowmember in RLOL who is gay and comes out and says so and you were good friends with that person up until now.....So does that mean all of you who oppose thelifestyle stop being their friends and stop dealing in redlines with that person? Or won't invite them to one of RLOL's get togethers? Or try to havethem banned on moral grounds? Or would you still be able to accept them as friends despite your objections to their lifestyle? Have at it!

Ricky Yo

P.S my personal stance...not on any moral grounds...just traditional thought...marriage should be between a man a woman..but I certainly can accept andtolerate the right for same sex couples to be legally recognized.

Just remember folks. Legalizing gay marraiges comes with a lot of baggage. Gay couples will be able to adopt children and raise them with their valuesystem. They will have equal access to every social privelege and right that a heterosexual couple enjoys under U.S law. For the record I am against it becauseit is immoral. I view it in exactly the same light as a man who is cheating on his wife. I could be this mans best friend. Its still wrong to cheat on yourwife.I hope I would have the courage to tell him so. Hey Dave.Heres one for you. Would you have a problem with a man having a sexual relationship with a nineyear old girl? Assuming he was very discreet about it and kept to himself without bothering you. Or how about if your neighbor had a sexual relationship withhis German Sheppard dog? No problem as far as your concerned?? There is no such thing as "not bothering anyone else" There is always a ripple effect.
There is a key term that hasn't been brought up at all: "Consenting adults." Dogs? Not adults. Children? Not adults. Leftover fries fromIn-N-Out? Not adults (though smarter than some dogs).

The really INSANE part of the stories is that less than 1% of the population is "gay". Do you know of any other 1% that has gotten the attention andRIGHTS as this group? I sure don't. And just because some pseudo-scientists dripping in grant money have said people are born gay, doesn't mean theyshould act on it. If that were true then one could make a strong argument for pedophilia (oh yeah, that will be next i.e. NAMBLA) or beastiality. History showsthat great nations have fallen due to "tolerance" to deviancy.

My two-and-a-half cents.

Ron

I've got so much to say I don't even know where to start... This display of narrow-mindedness by some here makes me wonder what the hell I'm doinghere... Y'all are like family to me and I love you, but sheesh... this is hard to take and it makes me very sad...

Greg

i dont give a rats arse either way. I dont believe that marriage between any 2 people is natural. Strait, gay, short, tall, it makes no difference. I cantremember seeing that adam & eve were married in the bible either...

I can see why a lot of gay people choose to keep their sexuality in the closet, but how is being gay morally wrong ? Do you boycott everything that hasanything to do with gay people ? if you aint that surely must make you a hypocrite, i mean you'd happily buy/sell/accept help from them, or maybe your kidsschoolteacher is gay but thats OK because they are teaching your kid, but you would deny them the same rights as you have.

Aint there more important things to worry about in life... ??

But just like a family Greg, ya have a lot on intolerant folks on here. Greg, that's exactly where I am. In the past, I've been fortunate to not remember for very long where individual board members' thoughts are onsuch subjects. That's allowed me to continue being an RLOL member. But these threads sure take a toll, and one of these times...

Jeff

Gosh, all I was doing was pointing out how some activist Judges overrode what the California people want, and that is to recognize marriage between a man and awoman...
The Judges STOLE our vote...plain and simple...STOLE it.

Lots of interesting comments, BobbyJ's was very good, but I can't go along with this day in comparison to his other examples of amendments...
I still wonder why we bother to vote, if they do what they "think" is Constitutional...oh yeah, if it were a majority vote, Al Gore would have beenPresident!

I challenge Chugger68 to find his own planet to live on, I'm staying here...

I love the argument that people know a gay couple that are nice and well mannered-I do to. I have seen interviews with many serial killers that seemed nice andwell mannered. Now I am not comparing the two, but I am saying being nice and well mannered does not mean I have to agree with one's lifestyle. I don'thave a problem with anyone who does not have a direct affect on me or my loved ones, but I hate it when one states they have a problem with something based onmorality, there is always another that wants to call them closed minded. Having an opinion based on a moral compass is just that. It does not mean you areclosed minded. That is just an easy cop out to lump everyone you don't agree with in a group and call them closed minded. To me, it is the same as takingyour ball and going home.

An example of Moral and Social Decay,

Mom and Dad both have to work and there is no one at home and even when one is and they spank there kid they get the I don't think so You can't spankyour kid....

Now we have More kids doing things they should not be doing than we would if lets say one could stay home or if one could give there kid thebelt every now and then. By not having the proper upbringing we now have kids in Huntington Beach that stab an off duty police officer because he tried to stopthem from marking graffiti on the side of a store because the school sent him home cuz he was late for school. Yes it's also because some people thatshould not have kids are but there are other wise good kids out there that have gone bad cuz there not getting the moral up bringing they should be getting.

I have no idea what the outcome will be because some people want or think it's ok for gay people to get married, If I had kids I would not want them tosee a gay people living next door or would I want my kid to have a friend at school that had gay parents. It's a sad sad sad day for us as a society tohave allowed this to happen and for some of us to even think it's ok is a shame.

If I had neighbors that were gay I would not shout out to them I don't like gay people go away, but I would not want to help them, lets say work on therecar or find a missing little furry pet.

I don't remember anyone taking a gun to school in the 1980's and shooting everyone but back then most kids would have got there back side Rosy red ifthey even thought about looking at there dad's gun let alone touching it without him there.

Hi all ....

DeputyRob said:

"i have no problem with gays...none at all. just don't want their way of life shoved in my face because i don't agree with it, but i can be tolerant of it. "

Now, I don't mean to pick on you here Rob, I'm really not...
but your words really capture the hypocrisy expressed so often in the
"anti-gay marrige" rhetoric. Why should people whose sexual orientation
is other than the majority have the majority's views shoved in their face?
Let alone barring the minority from rights enjoyed by the majority.
If that's not unAmerican, I don't know what is.

Jono also reminded us of an important fact; that majority rule does not
necessarily apply to representation or legal interpretation of the Constitution.
That's why this is becoming legal. It is in fact discrimination to
barr people who are law abiding, tax paying citizens from
the same rights as the rest of us, based on gender, age,
race, religion, or in this case, their sexual orientation.

Sexual orientation is just another way to identify a minority group,
which in this case, is made up of people from every other group too!
There are young gay people, old gay people, white, black, brown, yellow gay people.
Christian, Jewish, etc, and atheist gay people.
Skinny gay people, fat gay people, male and female gay people.
Smokers and non-smoker gay people.

Each group, if "straight"
(a loaded, prejudicial term that implies "crooked" to those who are not "straight")
can not be singled out for legal discrimination under any other circumstances,
so why should their sexual orientation be any different?
It shouldn't. And lawmakers are beginning to realize it. Finally.
It just takes a lot to break through all the prejudice, homophobia,
and religious objections - which I of all people won't comment further on here.

Immature people who don't know me might be tempted to counter me
by accusing me of being gay myself.
You have NO idea how often I hear that as a comeback to heterosexual people
who stand up for gay rights.
It makes me think we're all back in 5th grade.

And about the flamers ... the over the top Queen types ...
they are no more or less offensive than the over the top straight guys who
hang out their car and truck windows, hooting and hollering at every
halfway good looking woman in sight, shirts open to their (beer) belly buttons,
and reeking of cheap aftershave. Know the types?
There are way more of them than there are of flaming gay guys or power lesbians...
should they not be allowed to marry? (Or reproduce?
