Ok what do those little green bars mean?
I know it is kind of trivial but I am wondering what those little bars under member mean? I see alot of people have more and some have less, just curious.
Also are we going to be able to change member or are we going to have to have admins do it for us?
Thanks
PS if their good I want more. LOL

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
I'm glad someone else brought this up, it's been driving me crazy trying to figure out what they mean. Maybe it has something to do with kudos?
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
If you hover your mouse over the bars, it says what they mean...
"mattrocks3 is infamous around these parts"
"Striderxl is on a distinguished road"
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Well.. that doesn't make sense, because I have one and Striderxl has two, but our message is the same. Also. The forum time is tweaked compared to my zone. So don't know what the board time is now.
Oh well... we'll figure it out in due time. :D

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
I wonder if the little sherrifs badge in the lower left corner is related to the green bars?
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Green Bars = Reputation
When one goes to the community member list, then sorts by the green bar column, you can see who the "top bar holders" are.
Some familiar names who I have seen mass communicate via yuku mail in the past.
I do believe the quantity of bars has to do with "Friending" and the "kudo count".
Fun stuff, in a lot of ways the green bar count is like a bank account, not necessarily the most important thing in Life. ;) :p

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
"I do believe the quantity of bars has to do with "Friending" and the "kudo count"."
Seriously?? So we're like good little Redline Online soldiers walking around with little green bar merit badges on our uniforms?? Geez... someone please tell me it ain't so...
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Haha, please don't judge me by my green bar count!
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Yeah, no kiddin'. If this is a site where members are "ranked" by popularity, no matter how subtle, then I want out. I hope someone can tell me that the bars mean something else...
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Easy does it Greg...please don't leave if the bars mean that. Come on! Look beyond that.
We need you here!

I may be completly mistaken with my theory posted earlier, but I am pretty certain that this type of thing is fairly common with internet forums.
P.S. I "approved" your earlier posting, hope you get your third bar soon! :p

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Very interesting point you make Greg. Perhaps it has to do with the Sheriff's "reputation badge" in the lower left corner. Anybody??? If that's the case I am sure there will be some that never use it and others that use it on every chance they get. Perhaps we will get an official explanation.
Mark

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Hey Greg,
I purposely hit the sheriff's badge under your post to see what happened. It opened up a box that allowed me to say if I approve or disapprove of your post and gave me the option of saying why. Naturally I checked approve and I got a pop up saying that I added to your "reputation" rating in a positive way. I tried to juice the system by giving you another good reputation on a second post in the same thread, but I got a message telling me that I should spread my reputation ratings around on other people before I can do the same for Groggerbug again.
That being said, it really isn't any different than the yuku board. The "kudos" were exactly the same thing; although there wasn't a visible kudo rating system over your name on the thread, there was a visible kudo rating on your "member page". You always had way more kudos than I did, but it never bothered me:).
I say let's give this new board a chance to work itself out. I am not 100% decided yet on the green bar thingee, but it really isn't that much different than kudos on yuku.

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
From the board's information on reputation ....
What is reputation?
Reputation is a way of rating users depending on the quality of their posts. If the administrators have enabled reputation, then the reputation icon will be visible in posts.
Reputation may be positive , negative or neutral . Negative reputation may only be given if the administrator has enabled this. Neutral reputation is only given when the person giving reputation does not meet the criteria set by the administrator to affect someone else's reputation.
How do I give reputation?
To give reputation, click on the reputation icon in the relevant post. This will reveal a form to complete with the reputation type and the reason for giving the reputation. If negative reputation is disabled then it will not be displayed in this form. You may not give reputation for the same post twice.
How do I know what reputation I have received?
You can view the reputation that you have received in your User CP (User Control Panel) where it is displayed at the bottom of the User CP page. Here you will see the latest reputation that you have received and whether this is positive, negative or neutral. Your total reputation will be shown as series of reputation indicators in your posts and profile. The more positive your reputation, the more positive icons will be shown. The more negative your reputation the more negative icons will be shown.
How much reputation is given? What is reputation power?
If the administrator has enabled this, the amount of reputation that each user will give (or take away if negative) is shown in the user's posts as 'Reputation Power'. The value of the reputation power is determined by the administrator and may increase over time depending on the settings they have applied.
What if I don't want anyone to see my reputation?
You can disable the display of your reputation by going to your User CP and selecting Edit Options. On this page you will find a check box labelled 'Show Your Reputation Level'. Un-checking this box will remove the display of your reputation and replace it with the Reputation Disabled icon. You can still give and receive reputation while your reputation display is disabled.

Personally, I'm going to disable mine.

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
I think that the administrators need to enable this because it should be in general settings between Invisible Mode and VCard Download.
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Good comments, everyone. I hope, fer chrissakes, no one thinks this is sour grapes on my part for not having more than two bars - I don't give a damn! In fact, I'd encourage everyone to give me a bad rep mark just to see what happens...
Thanks so much, Jeff and Rick, for the very nice compliments!
Bob - thanks for your always-reasonable point of view. But I think this is quite different - the "kudo count" was a very objective tally of how many people have given you a "kudo", where this is some kind of subjective ranking based on "reputation" where people can give you a bad "rep" just because they don't like you. And if it's true, as Jam mentioned, that this is common on discussion forums, then that is a good enough reason why I don't frequent any others and why I'm getting wary of this one...
I hope the Moderators see fit to disable this feature. It's scary in a "Big Brother" kind of way, and highly inappropriate, in my mind, in a place where we're all friends.
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
The more I think about these green bars, the more I think they will play a big part for when the auction board fires up??????
What do ya think:confused:
Rick
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
That, I could accept if they were an objective measure of a person's repuation as a buyer or seller - like feedback on ebay. But from the Q&A description, that's NOT what they're about.
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
My hunch is they should have nothing to do with the sales site Rick.
I have to agree..I'd say the intent of RLOL,is as ab info board. While we are a community..this isn't a popularity contest.

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
If it is reputation I don't think it's that much different then kudos, yes someone can give you a negative if they don't like you, but since as you said we're all friends here I'd say the good reputations given would FAR outnumber the negatives, thus still giving you a positive rep. It might not be AS good if you didn't have people who don't like you, but I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that any member here could get a negative reputation undeservingly. My 2 cents to throw into the pot.
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
2 cents noted, Matt, but it doesn't matter whether it's "fair" or not, it's still being calculated by some "Big Brother" machine somewhere to establish whether....
"groggerbug has a spectacular aura about"
or
"rdln66 is infamous around these parts"
WTF is that???
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
yeah, but "mattrocks3 will be famous soon enough"
can someone explain the dopey sayings attached to the green bars which have no rhyme or reason?
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Ok those sayings are stupid, why even bother having them? groggerbug they might be calculated by someone else, but it's still the members giving the feedback for the other person to calculate. And the ratings are always always for every member going to be positive, it just matters how much positive there will be. Unless the member is a scammer or has done wrong unto one of the members here I can guarantee right now there won't ever be a negative reputation. I think they're unnecessary, but they don't do any harm either. I doubt the people on RLOL will look at the reps and only reply to the ones with the highest green bar numbers, things will continue the way they have with everyone being equal regardless of the green bar issue IMO.
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Then if they are indeed unnecessary and will all be positive anyway (with, ahem, some folks being 'more positive' than others) and the Mod's can simply disable the stupid things, then why not TURN 'EM OFF?
-
Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Why don't we just talk to the site designer about getting this reputation system removed.
I was kind of hopeing that the new site would have somesort of a feedback system.

Why do we need feedback here Matt? This isn't Ebay..total stranger A dealing with total stranger B.
All new members are screened before being able to deal here. *shrug* So basically everyone here SHOULD be good to deal with. We've been going to great lengths to get that info.
Board feedback on RLOL would just a different form of those goofy green bars IMHO.
Now if you had a board where anyone and everyone could deal...well that's a different kettle of fish.

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
The reputation system works only if there aren't cliques. They use it on other forums I'm on and it just allows the "oldtimers" to bully the new guys. Say an oldtimer has a huge rep score, and gets his panties in a wad for no reason...he neg reps the new guy, sinking the new guy into a red rep abyss. Its not a fair system in that sense...and it gets abused.

True, everyone on here has been screened before getting membership but that doesn't mean everyone is perfect and flawless to deal with. I can remember some transactions on the boards where other members had to step in and resolve issues and a feedback page would point that out.
heres a link to the issue I recall. http://toycars.redlinesonline.info/vb/showthread.php?34673-Looking-for-Tattooed-Bard&highlight=tattooed+bard

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
Trivial Persuit...
The green bars/rating system seems weird...Adams point is an example...
What I question is how, right out of the gate, everyone had different ratings???
I think I'll go rate Greg in a negative way since he's begging for it!!!!:001_tongue:

Re: Ok what do those little green bars mean?
It is related to the rlol "casting" system. I see people with tons of posts and only 1 bar so it cant be that.
