the trout and mackinaws are killer in donner as well as the kokanees. for the big macks a downrigger is almost a must but i got two on the boat. give it a try
Never heard of Mackinaws...are they in the trout family? Looks like it by the pic...kind of like a Coho Salmon?
yes mackinaws are in the trout family. unlike rainbows and browns they are very elusive and hard to hook up. you almost have to annoy them into biting.
these were caught trolling at about 70 ft using a luhr jensen t-spoon with a few drops of crawfish scent lunker lotion. these were only 4 or 5 pounds ive pulled 16 pounders out of both tahoe and donner . tahoes a little easier the fish are on the bite more.
I haven't Trout fished in almost 25 years...hmmmmmmmmmmm...
Thing is I don't like eating Trout, so I used to give it away when I lived in Mt Shasta, my co workers and neighbors loved me!!
And I love to relax while doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pic is about 15 years old but the attitude is still the same.
I grew up on a ranch on the california Delta and fished every day after my chores were done.. Both of my sons grew up fishing and now my grandsons are learning the sport... I live on the calaveras river and fish a couple times a week.. I just can't get enough of it...lol How about a few pics?
Got this one five minutes walk from my back door..

A small mouth bass at New Hogans lake about 5 miles from my house..

Large mouth,same lake

Sweet looking fish, nice to catch smallies and large's in the same body of water! Here the smallies dominate the lake, but there is and abundant amount of largemouth in the bays, and dock areas. Sweet looking C-!0 there as well!!!

I go to New Hogan lake alot because it's only a five mile drive and also fish for land locked stripper.. The striper fishing on the delta is great but I won't eat them due to the high mercury levels.. With that said the fresh water strippers are the best but hard to land..
Like the fish but LOVE the truck.
