I hunted all day and late in the evening I'm walking back to my car. Up on the bank above my car is a deer standing. Without too much detail, it went down, rolled down the hill, right to my car.
thats an awesome story!!
We used to hike, split up, try to scare them towards the people on the high ridge, or the valleys, or whatever the big game plan was...sometimes it worked, butmost of the time we shot them right out the window (shhhhhhhhh...thats illegal) either going to the hunting area, or leaving it...needless to say, the lastcouple years my dad and I hunted, we stricly road hunted and did well...
Why shoot anything that can't shoot back???????????
Ww....... Rare common ground with Pete here! I like it when the deers go wild and gore some clown, even the stakes a bit, sure beats the drunk guy in the deerblind a half mile away with the snipers special, yeah, that's some real hunting!!

My husband probably has a ton of them though!

We finished our muzzle loader hunt Friday. 13 deer harvested, one tag left..that's a new record for our group.
I think we had 5 nice does,4 decent bucks, 2 button bucks, and 2 smaller does.
And we seen a lot more deer than what we got.

Since the winter weather has sunk in early here, there's still a fair bit of corn that's yet to be harvested. The deer we got were full of corn. Dangthings are harvesting more corn than we farmers.
We had some of Scotto's favorite the other day..some venison tenderloin..(back strap)..and it was pretty tasty.
They're more like a grain fed STEER than a wild gamey old thing.

The muzzle loaders we use are mainly .50cal rifles. I still use the old side hammer/percussion cap. Most others use In-lines now. Pretty impressive rifles.Break action,or bolt action w/removeable firing mechanism. They use 240 grain bullets, black powder pelletized loads, and shot gun primers. With scopes nowthey're going over 150 yards. Not quite high powered ranges yet..but better than what they used to be.

Still, they're muzzle loaders and are very subjected to the weather. Rain, snow dampens the powder or primer/cap,and misfires are not un common. I had onethis year myself.

Frank

Deer are part of the food chain, so we consume them. No brainer. At least game animals aren'tstuck in cages and sleeping in their fecal matter, or prodded and poked by ranchers...they have a good life until they die of lead poisoning...

Hey Frank, congrats on a great hunt this year! That sounds great, and I'll bet the meat is fantastic considering what they've been feeding on!

What I can't stand is 'Trophy Hunting'. If anyone's got a pic of a leaping trophy hunter withan arrow in his heart, by all means, please post it. Well maybe not, it might offend someone!

Around here, it's a severe offenceto hunt at night with a light. You can walk right up only feet away from a deer and bag it, but if ya get caught, it's game over for you. Personally Ifigure this logic is skewed if it's your intention to bag a few for food. Ya got a clean point blank shot, which is humane if anything, and no halfinjured animals go running off into the bush to die an agonizing death.

And Dave, there's nothing more Ilike seeing than a Matador with a horn up his or her butt, or through their eye, or those idiots running ahead of the bulls in that 'Running of theBulls' thing over in Italy. So called 'humans' can be the sickest critters of all. As a matter of fact, they are the only sick critters!

Andy
