What a killer car...
Jeff
Beautiful piece of history, and I'm sure it's almost priceless!
Those are very cool. I have the original model and promo model. There was a white one used in a movie in the 60's. The name escapes me at the moment.{edit} I believe the movie is "The Lively Set" or something like that.

I have the model kit. Still have it but I "modified" it when i was a kid and stuck a big, blown HEMI in the front and burned (yes I said burned) ahole in the hood for it to stick out of. Maybe I can get some photos of it. I have the original box for the model too. I believe it was a "Johann"kit or something like that.
The model was released by Jo-han. They gave a car or a couple cars to a select number of familes to use. I looked but couldn't find it, but there is areally cool pic somewhere of a family getting out of the car in front of a Tiki restuarant.

It's a very cool pic.
Nice....Thanks for sharing....Bill

I would love to walk around Jays garage...have seen some of it on different car programs.
He has some collection..he collects the 1:1 like we collect the 1:64.
A very cool car, to be sure, although the styling is basically a ripoff of the mid-60's Thunderbird.

But I gotta' say, it's emblematic of the kind of dumb things the Big 3 have done over the years that cost them billions in research & development, and for something that was no more than a very pricey publicity stunt.

A turbine is very obviously the wrong powerplant for automotive applications... they have very low horsepower and almost no torque. They're best in useswhere constant, static thrust is required (i.e. aircraft, generators, etc.) - NOT the kind of constant on/off power required by cars. So the turbine cars werenot only slow and heavy, but because the turbine was operating so ineffectively, got terrible gas mileage as well. About the only thing it could do wasmaintain high speeds with relative economy - but the car's 60's aerodynamics were so bad that this lone advantage was negated anyway.
that's one sweet ride
Actually, Chrysler made numerous attempts at powering cars with turbines starting as far back as 1954 and as recent as 1980 ! See and read about them all here....

Chrysler Turbine Cars

Mark.
