Plants do often times shut down for maintenence which used to make maybe a few cents difference. Stockpiles are up, consumption is down but yet prices are up.

It is indeed speculators in the markets driving the price. Not supply and demand.

We just went through this and we saw what $4.00 gas does to the economy. Some people will never learn though. What's worse is that the large investors areusing YOUR money to drive up the price. Goldman Sachs got 16 billion in bail out money which went right into the markets. Yes, they paid it back but only aftermaking gobs of money off us. They also are getting basically "free" money right now to invest. It's free becasue interest on it right now isbasically 0%. That low interest is also driving the dollar down which in turn drives more investors to oil.

So remember, every time you pay 25 cents more, you are actually paying far more than that. You are going to end up paying back much of this money that wasprinted to give to banks to use recklessly again.

In Oregon there is no self pumping at all, it's all done with an attendant. I wouldn't call it "Full service" though. The days of gettingyour tires, oil, water etc. checked are long gone. They don't even wash your windshield anymore.

I can remember "Gas Wars" and the days when the gas stations not only did all those services automatically , (with a smile) but they hired guys onstilts and had search lights going, free dishes, and cases of pepsi , all for 29.9 cents per gallon. "Those were the days, my friend, we thoughtthey'd never end" Michael

Charger68 wrote:
There are still "full service" stations????????????????
There's one in Mahtomedi, MN (Twin Cities suburb) that's still in business. I've been waiting for it to close for well over a decadenow but it hasn't. Maybe when its elderly clientele "moves on?"

What's the reason for Oregon's (corncob up the butt) ways?

Here in the wonderful state of New Jersey, we aren't allowed to touch a gas pump.

I guess the authorities fear we would all self immolate if we did

Bob Jordan

Dave, If they pump it 10 cents more a gallon... If you use a credit card 5 cents more per gallon either way... If you want to buy smokes they get them foryou... If you have to use the facilities they get the key with the 12 inch long 4x4 piece of wood attached to it for you.... That is the extent of theirservice... Don't ask them for directions, you will get lost........
