Quitesimply, using your numbers, the tire is 205mm wide and has a sidewall measurement of 143.5mm (205 x .7). Put into inches (25.4mm/inch), the tire is just over8 inches wide (205/25.4 = 8.071) and the sidewall measures 5.65 inches.<br><br>Nothing that Tirerack doesn't expound on but I don't think anyone's actually done the math here yet...<br><blockquote> You can put a pretty fat rim and tire combon on most cars if you get the backspacing just right.</blockquote>Not sure if Greg is actually referring to add-on spacers or, for that matter, how much spacers are even used anymore. If you stick with factorywheels, at some point (likely well beyond Bruce's 10mm difference) you may need them. I think that aftermarket wheels now typically rely on their"offset" (that is, how much of the rim is in front of the center disk and how much is behind it - think "deep-dish" for an example) toadjust for tire width.<br><br>Doug<br>

Frank (rdln66), I hope you read and heed, 'cause I remember your tires are ancient!<br><br>Simply put, a sidewall aspect ratio (middle number) of 70 means the sidewall is 70% the width of the tread (thus regulating height). --p<br>
