Yes Jack. I am not any better off right now "physically" than what I was before. Still the horrible ringing. But.......I did get a "taste" of hearing again without the ringing. "That" is what has me so excited! I will keep all of you folks posted. Promise!

Scott - Sorry about that! I do bet, though, that most of the population
in our age bracket has both some degree of tinnitus and hearing loss.
If you remember, I never realized how bad the hearing was in my right
ear until I lost it in the left. Decent hearing in the right now
requires a hearing aid .
And yet, I still find myself wanting to crank the tunes while driving -
some music isn't meant to be played at "safe" levels!

I think I
mentioned a week or so ago that I've been toying with the idea of
building a Factory Five replica car. Check out the sound warning I
found today for the roadster (Cobra replica):

FFR Roadster

I
can't imagine building this thing and then having to wear earplugs
while driving it!?!?!?

Bruce - that work sounds very promising! I
may just contact the doctor myself. I can't imagine what silence sounds
like anymore (and I haven't been missing it nearly as long as some
others here on RLOL!

He has proven to me and others that the damage is NOT in the
inner ear
as physical damage but rather it is damage to the auditory portion of
the brain instead.
I've heard this as there have been cases
of doctors severing the auditory nerve in an attempt to eliminate
tinnitus and yet the patient still reports it (and a few of those
reportedly committed suicide out of frustration)! As much as we know
about the brain, there are still volumes to be learned. Hopefully, the
auditory portion is right around the corner - it sounds like this doctor
is on the right track! I'd be curious to know how he "forced" your
brain to learn to use a different portion to hear - I mean, how did the
earphones manage to "turn off" that portion of the brain that typically
processes hearing in order to force it to use another?

Phil - Good luck with the kidney situation. We'll be keeping you in our prayers!

I'm glad to hear that some of you have taken
my story to heart and hopefully more of you will - especially with
protecting the hearing you still have - before it's too late.

He took some steps to "move" the clicking sound and the "on-and-off-again" beeping sound overlayed on the clicking to make me think I was hearing it first, behind me and above, then to the left, then straight above my head, then it felt like it was in my throat, then he smiled and said, "check this out".......then he did something and the tinnitus disappeared. I was hearing everything (including my own voice) like I used to 32 years ago. I really didn't realize that I had forgotten what it sounded like. It was truly miraculous! As I said.......I am a big man but emotional and I was crying my eyes out. I am not embarrassed to admit it. this has been one of the most incredible things I have had happen in my life. funny you mention the FFR Cobra. Many years ago, I sent off for the brochures for I think it was Classic Cobra Replicas.....they had none at that time in the DFW area. they wanted me to pay $6K and it was mine. I needed the engine and the tranny......they provided the POSI rearend! I couldn't because at the time I had 3 Mustangs, a Maxima, and a truck. My neighbors would have crucified me. I was dumb not to take them up on their offer and sell the Mustangs. All but one at least. I had to agree to bring it to shows once a year when finished to get that price. GO FOR IT!!!!!! oh,.,.....and yes, wear the earplugs when the headers are open.......with mufflers they wanted you to wear ear protection?
