Yep, the toothbrush thing works every time. The thing I like about doing it with an airbrush is that the effect looks accidental...the little splatter spotsare different sizes & shapes, the spitting is so sporadic(sp)with the airbrush.

S~

I would LOVE to drive a 1:1 Bug done up like that! It has a gasser look to it. Really nice custom work!

Are the door hinges an added touch or are they already casted on the VWs? If they are casted, I'm shocked. All these years and I never noticed that detail.

Why can't Mattel make them as cool as that one?

Thanks Kitty, Only the custom paint job has been done to this casting. I can only think of 2 Ultra Hot colors & the new Since '68 white one thathave been done with this casting. I've been doing these fade jobs for years but I have only tried it this once on this casting. That's why I said Iwanted to try something new (new to this casting). Thanks, Mike

Wait. What is the casting then? Heck, I thought you did a killer cut n' paste (physically, not Photoshop) job on a "regular" HW Bug.

I like it better this way, though, as it means I might be able to get one too. Maybe. If they were a convention thing or the like, no way I can afford one ofthose.

The casting is called Custom Volkswagon Bug. There are 2 Ultra Hot colors, black/red & green/white $5.00 each usually, $4.00 some places, but still hard tofind sometimes. The new Since '68 is white/red I believe @ $3.00+ and VHTF. Hope that helps, Mike

Wow, I'll have to look more closely next time they show up at my local Wal Mart. They're always behind on what they get in stock. I was still seeing2006 cars last month. They'll probably get the 2008s in some time in 2009. Maybe.

Thanks for the info. I'm really diggin on that one. I had a chance to pick up the Karmann Ghia but passed because it just didn't look that great but Ihadn't seen the Bug. Store employees snap up the T-Hunts and anything really popular before the boxes even go out on the floor, so I was shocked to see theGhia.

Not so intersted in technique myself since I'm no creator, but I give you a thumbs up on the final product!
