I think frankly even if it WAS real some how (which i'm fairly certain it isn't) you could never actually prove it to be real so its practically a mootpoint. Legit one-off/sample/proto/lunchtime painted cars need verification via back story and history like if it came from an ex-employee or can at least betraced back to an ex-employee collection...something along those lines. Just my .02 though.

Why all these posts and nonsense over a car that is 99.99 percent a Repaint. You asked us for our opinions and we give them, and they you just ignore them andstill think the car is legit without even having it in your hand??? Also, if you think the car is legit looking at the picture's in the auction, I thinkyou need some bye focal's, the paint in the wheel wells is spectra flame green, there appears to be a spot of blue paint on the front fender, I mean Iwouldn't even take the gamble for 10 bucks let alone 100 . Also, Chris aka Jon Mclane is saying even if the car is for some million to one long shot real,it is still basically worthless, I mean there is no history on the car, no Mattel employee to verify it, etc, so you would have to find some Joe Shmoe thatmight give you a little money for it, but I doubt it. White Enamel Camaro's have a little history, not green one's, LOL.
My 2 cents,
Eric
What would you do if someone "backdoored" your Camaro and it turned out to be real because to prcrastinated so long?
If the Camaro is checked out by me and a few fellow members in the Valley and the Camaro shows absolutley no
signs of being a repaint, color is dark green enamel(can't tell with auction pics sometimes) would I be able to call it as original even with no documentation?

In my opinion, no. But I base my opinion on being an antiques dealer and with most antiques you really need to cross your T's and dot your I's withverified provenance. To be honest, the redline world doesn't work that way right now. I've seen collectors drop thousands of dollars on a car justbecause someone says is a "salesman's sample" with no verification, no documentation, no proof and no provenance. Just the word of the seller(hey you know me buddy, would I lie to you? It's a salesman sample, really!)

Right now many of the rarest and most valuable redlines have documentation and known history ... but a newly discovered prototype can still be documented. There are many former Mattel employees who could verify whether or not Camaros were test-painted in green enamel or any other enamel color other than the knownwhite ones. And there's a lot of paperwork floating around that documents certain production aspects of HWs. You just have to figure out how to contactthe former employees and those who have acquired the paperwork, and ask.

It's not difficult to make a perfect, undectable repaint forgery, we only catch the obvious ones. There are already too many undocumented"rare" and "prototype" and "unique" cars floating around with no documentation, and it's only going to get worse. Sooner orlater, collectors will wise up and stop paying big bucks for something that is really nothing unless there's PROOF.

OK I'll get off my rant now. Point is, right now you can call that green Camaro any kind of unique proto you want. And maybe if you can line up somehigh-profile collectors to agree with you, the redline world will agree it's the real deal too. But down the road, it's just going to be anotherCamaro unless you get real authentication from an employee who was there and saw it painted, or a Mattel memo saying "test enamel green on some '68castings to see if they would be appropriate for the '73 lineup" or whatever.
