Second degree is the correct charge. First degree is premeditated murder, which this was not. It is very difficult to make a first degree murder charge stick inthis day and age. The crown has to prove that the killer made a plan beforehand and acted on it.---mike
I don't know really what's worse, the guy who did this or the passengers who sat on their collective asses and did absolutely nothing, but WATCH somedude attack a 22 year old kid? Seriously, I don't have clue what makes someone not want to aid another, let alone one that is being killed, and you sitliterally inches away, watching......

I dont think you have enough facts to conclude that the victim could have been helped by his fellow passengers. Also, most folks wont step in to stop a littleold lady from getting her purse snatched. Its easy for you to judge the passengers on that bus from the safety your armchair. Its another thing entirely torush in when the blood and gore are flying.Don't be too quick to judge.---mike
I don't see how people could just not do anything as well. I mean, how could you not? Plus, strength in numbers will always prevail in something likethis...AND, by the time the cops show up, the knife guy would probably be dead, thus eliminating a trial and the costs associated with housing these scumbagsfor 20+ years...

Mike,
sounds like the victim didn't stand a chance. Neither should the assailant have. he should have been dead on the spot.
It is amazing how most people won't do anything. I mean HE HAD A KNIFE. I could see if he had a gun, but a knife, that guy could have been stopped easy.

Johnny I think that in MOST places given that same scenario people would just not get involved. Most people are predominately wusses.

I think most people were in shock, since the guy hadn't shown any signs of being nuts. They were all having a smoke break together an hour before. Like oneguy said, "One minute I'm watching Zorro, the next I hear a bloodcurdling scream." The passengers made sure not to put any of the children orothers on the bus in more danger. The driver disabled the vehicle so he couldn't end up on some dangerous chase putting even more people in danger.

But seriously, if some guy comes after you with a hunting knife in one hand and somebody's head in the other, are you really going to try to fight him?
