Jack - wingspan of the B-17 was just a bit over 100'.<br><br>And are you sure it was an A-21? That was a rather obscure aircraft made by Stearman that saw only very limited use in action... was it the Douglas A-24Dauntless? Or maybe the A-20 Havoc (also by Douglas)? Both of those were much more widely used...<br><br>Greg

It woulda been cool, but she sat way more than she worked on the fires. Those were my taxes dollars, andthey closed the lake down, while she was parked there. Okay!! Jim's right on the Grumman F-11F Tiger.<br><br>Chris's pix are of the Martin Mars, the largest flying boat ever to be produced. (The Spruce Goose would've been but it never went into production) Andthere's a lot of debate about whether these beasts are really effective, or just for show. They now have a DC-10 modified into a tanker, and whenever theyshow up, the FD folks refer to it as a "media drop". As an aircraft enthusiast, I'm not sure where to stand on the issue, but I think smaller,more maneuverable machines are better suited to firefighting. Newer aircraft like the Canadair's are ideal.<br><br>And re. Jim's pic... it's obviously a helicopter, and I'm going to guess something like a Eurocopter EC-120...<br><br>Greg
Greg, It's a Robinson R44 Raven. My buddy has his own FAA recognized heliport and hanger in his backyard. His next helicopter will have a turbine engine hesays. Very cool pic of the world's largest airplane - Antonov AN-225 Mirya. As far as I know, they made only one. "Largest Aircraft in the World" isgenerally based on maximum takeoff weight, and the new Airbus A-380 will be a very close second.<br><br>Greg
