U.S. car companies need to produce good , small cars. They still don't see the writing on the wall . Americans need to buy what is best for them. Buying a great small American car or small SUV is not possible for any American person in the USA because there is no such animal......at least not in the USA. US car companies are developing and selling small cars in the but for the European and South American market and not the USA. Sure , gasoline prices aredropping but for how long? Unless you own a boat or trailer or work in construction or haul lots of people / stuff , you're an idiot to buy a big SUV togo to the supermarket. US car companies have way too many big cars/suvs/trucks. That is the problem.

Sorry to hear about your job loss again but perhaps you layed-off employees can pressure the American car companies to start producing the good small carsthat they produce abroad. Why isn't the Ford Fiesta here yet? WHy isn't the Ford Ecosport brought here ( a small SUV that looks like a smallerEscape.) When is the Chevy Cruze going to arrive here ? 2011 2012? WHy is this American car being sold abroad first? (I think that I know the answer tothis one... Chevy wants to get rid of the Cobalts first...)

maribell

I am sorry to read about so many people losing their jobs.

I work in the microchip design field and it's one that at one point only had a few hundred people worldwide thus getting and keeping very good paying jobswas easy. Since the job came around in the late 60s, there has never been much of a time when one couldn't get work...if they were willing to temporarilyrelocate. Within the last 3 months, I've been getting calls and/or hearing through the grapevine about a lot of people not being able to keep their jobs orfind new jobs in this field. Very scary for an electronics niche that has been going strong for over 40 years...during other working field good and bad times. My wife is one of those unemployed right now, but this is mostly due to our unwillingness to move. We want to spend a winter in Arizona, in our own house. Soit's our own doing.

Good luck to those out there looking for work.

Mike
HWsMinis

The economy is pretty bad all around. My brother works in a body shop w/ 10 employees in Queens, NY. They are barely getting work in tokeep everyone busy. A few of the guys were told to stay home this week. People are not fixing their cars. When there is a minor accident, people are notfixing the cars...They do get cars to fix from Hertz but people are also renting less now.. Less car rentals= less work...

The other day, my boy went backwards and banged his 93 Toyota against a fence post. The fence post won. The kid ripped the front bumper off the car and badlydented the frontfender. I had my brother screwed the bumper back on. The fender was banged into a shape and a few screws were added to make sure that itdidn't come off. I clearly saved my boy at least $400.oo...

Hopefully, things will change soon.

maribell
