The parent's place is built on a large V shaped plateau between 2 gulleys. I remember in the old sledding hey days, we'd be asleep, then hear the humm, and see the lights of some of Dad's buddys coming out to play on the hills. So out he'd go, fire up the old Olympique, and we'd try and get back to sleep with the sleds buzzing all around us..lol.
Some of the hills there are pretty steep, and like that Cheese Whiz, more than a few guys went home with their windshields cleaned off. :cursing:
Frank,
Those Masseys look like they weigh 800 pounds and no suspension at all, broken back special! Ouch!!!
I had one of those bumble bee 399 Olympics when I was younger and boy did I get my money's worth out of it! I spent just as much time fixing it as I did riding it...bogey springs, broken skis, multiple windshields, you name it. My buddy had one of those blizzards and it was one bad machine! Those were the days...
My father had two nice vintage sleds, a pair of nice Yamahas, GP 292 & GP 433, what I wouldn't give to turn back the clock 15 years. I think he sold the pair for $400...those Merc Snow-Twisters are pretty cool as well!

Love that Blizzard as well the TNT's.....sleds back then were so cool & each had their very own personality. The Sno-Jets were another one of my favs as well.....what were there.....about 120-150 different manufactures back in the day? What got me hooked on the SRX's & Sno Twisters was after seeing them both dominate all the stock & mod stock classes on the oval at a pro sponsored race back in '76. The factory pro teams were also there with their colorful rigs which I remember so clearly.....loved the look of the Sno Pro sleds of the Cat & Ski-Doo teams......memories man. Here's some cool images I found web searching....priceless!

Around the mid 70's my uncle had a 650 Speedway Triple called the Blue Max...I saw it running once because of the triple carbs it was really difficult to get dialed in.

I have some great memmories sleddin'! We started with an old AMF. We then upgraded to a John Deere 340 and and Polaris 440. This was in the early to mid '80's. I fondly remember going to a friends cabin and riding the sleds in a snow storm and there all of a sudden was this big clap of thunder. I said what was that? He said "thunder snow" It can thunder while its snowing...wow! what an experience.

The Bull Whip...love it, reason I like these sleds is just the fact that if you go back to the mid 70's to say 83 the lines/aerodynamics/liquid cooled, and basically all the new technology that was coming out seemed to find their way into these machines. So many different makes and styles just made them seem so far ahead of their time. I can't even pick out a favorite! We had 4 John Deeres than my uncles scored of an insurance liquidator. One of them was 440 Liquifire and I remember that was the first sled I took down an old country rode that easily pushed 100 MPH stock. There was a Kawasaki dealer in town so plenty of those around, Cats/Ski-Doos as well. The Kawi dealer also sponsored pond races that were held the first Saturday of every May...mostly just a beer fest and a reason to get your sled out one last time. Great times and even fonder memories!
