Again Steve,very nice work!! I am jealous of your shop you get to use,even the better body shops I worked at,not even close by a long shot to where your at. Ilove your bug as well and the only changes if it were mine would be these small little things.......1)sliding sunroof with luggage rack,2) the older"W" deck lid,and the honeycomb taillights(not sure if you have those). Other than the small things I would do,I wouldnt change a single thing youdid,and absolutely can appreciate your work,and I can bet if you ever had to look for a job,there would be places wanting you bad!!

We just spent about $20,000 on repainting the inside of our shop. And we pruchased new storage cabinets so almost nothing sits on the floor.I also made pallets and mounted them to the bottoms so we can move them when we do our spring cleaning. As far as the suggested "changes" you would do. I have looked for a "W" lid for mine, but I will run this one till I find one. Heck blackis easy to do and I can change it anytime. I will be getting a new luggage rack when I have some extra cash. I do have the original honeycomb tailights readyto go. The ragtop was something I wanted for the car, but the lack of $$ is what killed that idea. I do have plans to get another Bug. A '60 or '63. Tohonor the years my wife and I were born in. I am always looking at the Sambaclassifieds. I almost left this job a couple years ago cause my manager is a paper manager not a people manager. There isn't nuch communication between the assistantand secretary and him. Then that trickles down to us. It sucks. But then the owner came up with this Hotrod shop/restoration thing. What a career invigorator.I still have aspirations to own my own shop with my boys working with me. We'll see. Right now I enjoy what i'm doing and it pays very well. I amcurrently putting 2 people through college on my salary so it ain't all bad. <img src="http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/roll.gif" alt="image"> Oh, and Tim (Beach bomb), This paint just pops. I never thought Black would be so cool. My Grandpa would be very very proud of me on this Bug. As much as Idread buffing. I just think of the results. It is worth every second. When your bug is done Steve, sure would like to see it. Is there a show in the spring/summer you are shooting for to have it on theroad again? Big VW show in Effingham Ill on May 31 & June 1st 2008. just curious , if this was a customer how much would all this work cost and do you have an idea as to the value of the bug once complete as its not going to beyour average bug .I saw the one owned by matt roloff with the copped top and thought it was cool looking .There is one near me for sale that has had a completechop top done and iw as thinking of picking it up as the more i see these bugs they are getting to me Cool

As far as what it will be worth when I'mdone......I don't know. I know it would take over $ 20,000.00 to pry the keys from my cold dead hand though. <img src="http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/roll.gif" alt="image"> It's funny I was sanding today and thing how much time it takes me just to sand each panel. I apply the dark powder to see the imperfections , then I use asmall rubber block with 400 grit for final sanding, then go over that with a DA w/400 on it to smooth out any sanding lines caused by the block, then blocksome more, then I use a scratch pad to smooth over the whole panel. I spent about 7 hrs today sanding on the body shell... and I'm not finished. I stillneed to sand the front aprons and the area around the windshield, and the lower apron. Easy fix. I will just have to sand it with finerpaper. I hope to shoot it tomorrow night. Then I can buff it this weekend. In case you're wondering, I put plastic on the openings so I don't get thefresh paint inside all dusty.I also watched the Matt Roloff bug on tv. It is cool, but I'm not liking the slanted chop. That's just me. I'm 6'3" though, so thatchop would mean I would have to lower the seat frame assembly just to drive it. I would love to take it down the 1/4 mile about 30+ times too. If I sanded paint for 7 hours today, I wouldn't be able to type... or go to work tomorrow..... I think I'd be in bed with rubber arms for a coupledays. Awesome work on the bug and the Mustang. I take extra time when I sand, cause you can't go back once you start to paint.I've block sanded cars before and not DA'd them (a long time ago)after I blocked them and there was lines where the edge of the block dug into theprimer. That looks BAD when you paint over it. It's very theraputic really. You get to think about the final product, what's for dinner, what I'mgoing to write on RLOL later, and The Samba.
