Absolute best would have to be Springsteen early in the 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' tour ~ 1978. He opened with a screaming version of 'Badlands' and didn't let up for three and a half hours. Pretty sure 'Born to Run' was one of the encores going on midnight.
Other favorites include seeing Ray Charles in Chicago not too long before he died; Bob Dylan and Elvis Costello together in Bloomington, IL a couple of years ago; The Marshall Tucker Band in the summer of '79 before Tommy Caldwell was killed; The Civil Wars in Cincinnati last spring; Tom Petty and The Eagles back in the 70s; Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and Sharon Little in Lexington, KY on the 'Raising Sand' tour.
I have seen hundreds of concerts in Toronto since about 1981-82 (12-13 years old). Some of the highlights were Iron Maiden '82(1st ever concert). Seeing Black Sabbath with Ian Gillan singing and doing an amazing bongo solo. Pink Floyd in the early 90's. Metallica during the master of puppets tour. Some bands I have seen multiple times because they put on amazing shows would be:
Nine inch Nails
Judas Priest (going to their final Toronto show on Nov. 22)
Ministry
Rush
ACDC and I love to see David Wilcox when he's in town.
Worst experience at a show was the summer of '96 at Molson Park during a co-headlined show with Nine inch Nails and Soundgarden. It was a hot summer day and they ran out of water at the park. I met a girl who hung out with us for a while with her little brother and I was trying to pick her up so I offered to take her brother up close to the stage for Soundgarden. When the crowd got going, the kid was holding on to me for his life and was practically pulling my shorts down to around my knees so I pulled him back out of there and I was asking him about his sister on the way back up the hill to where our friends were and I found out that she neglected to tell me she had a boyfriend who she had misplaced at the show so trying to impress her brother was a huge waste of time. Nine inch Nails was great as usual and Soundgarden sucked live as usual and I had to use Hot V05 oil treatment for about a month on my then long hair because I woke up in the morning with a hangover and baseball diamond gravel in my hair from being in the moshpit all day.LOL
