Rob's job is dependant on crime! Take away the crime, and you take away employment

Rob and others like him (and some day, Justin) will never be out of work. Andy, there's a reason they call it "weed." It grows like a weed andfor all intents, it is one. The reason it's so expensive is supply and demand. If it was legal and free to grow, the price would bottom out. That is why,if it ever does become legal in the US, it will be heavily taxed, as is any other vice item.

also wanted to add that I will insult the President of the so called GREATEST nation on Earth

You're really stepping on a lot of toes with that statement, Andy, and lately you have been going off on all sorts of tangental rants. You should take abreak. Get some fresh air. Renew the SSRI and/or ADD prescription(s) while you're at it. Please.

When you guys got nailed on 9/11, our country was shocked, and at the request of the US government, we so happily and gladly opened our airspace andairports to dozens or 100s of unscheduled aircraft from your country and others for a safe place to land. Any of those planes could have hit us too!

Goodness, dude. Wow. Trying my best to humour you but it's becoming much more difficult.
"You" so happily and gladly opened your airspace and airports? When you do take a break for that fresh air, after you get back, read up on NORAD.Hint: they serve both the US and Canada. Our respective countries' security is tied together very tightly when it comes to airspace. Onceit was determined that it was a terrorist act, NORAD took over, directing the planes to land at the nearest airport. Some planes were already over Canada andothers were redirected due to lack of space in the northeast US.

Raed, my brother =) I remember that you lived in Los Angeles. I was referring to the part of the world you currently live in, where laws are different andviolent crimes are dealt with differently. To my knowledge, you do not have over-crowded prisons there. Tribal customs and laws often trump other regionallaws. I know what happens when a woman is raped in some countries in that region. That is, except for Saudi Arabia, where they blame the woman and stone her todeath even if she is a mentally ill teenager.

Dave (dftcat). Hear hear! We give more aid to other countries than is the GNP/GDP of many of them. We may play world police, but we're also"there" when national disasters occur. I admit that part of our government's reasons are dishonest, but there also is a big part that is from theheart - from OUR hearts, to theirs. More donations are sent through private agencies that many people realise.

Meanwhile, back at Rancho de Andy: It's more the cynical voice of dis-enchantment with the path the US has gone, and not just as of recent years.

That is where you began to go wrong. You are blaming everyone in the US for what our government (especially our president) has done. Without going off on yetanother topic over the validity of the last two elections, remember, Andy, many of us did not vote for George Bush (I or II). One big reason for the currentjuggernaut of Democrat votes (hey, even my favourite state is "going Demo" this time) is because of how screwed up everything is. So don't blameit on everyone. That would be like us saying all Canadians suck because they have those snotty French separatists.

will maintain that the US is being poisoned with all the violence and filth on TV and in the movies, and culture in general, is goin' down thetoilet.

I have a simple solution for you, Andy: Shoot your TV. Do it; do it soon, please. Go all Elvis on it. Er, wait. You don't believe in guns. I'm sure youcan find a suitable rock or stick. For the sake of what sanity remains, kill your television. Oh, and Star Trek was, is, and always shall be, a sciencefiction/fantasy television series.

Joel: Hopefully you're still reading this because this part is for you. I agree with a number of your points but about halfway through your previous postcame disagreement. It's nice, though, that neither of us are foaming at the mouth at each other over some of the issues. Pretty sweet, huh?

So much for not foaming at the mouth, Joel. All I said was, simply, that I disagreed with something and you go off with guns blazing as if I'd just pissedon your favourite pair of shoes. You didn't even know exactly what I disagreed with, yet you went off on a lengthy tirade about President Clinton. Youasked a quick question and assumed the answer. If you behave behind the wheel of your rig in the same manner, I feel for people sharing the same roads as thoseyou drive, as you are a potentially very dangerous case of road rage waiting to happen.

Thanks Kitty! YOU JUST MADE MY POINT FOR ME ABOUT THE GUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not yelling at you, I'm. Anyone, could lose it. Now, I just turn on my computer, come here, readyour post without reading what Joel said that you're responding to. Anyone who has a gun, or a truck can crack! Difference between trucks and guns is, wederive GREAT benefit from having trucks, guns don't carry goods for delivery (not in the way I'm talking). Any. law abiding, gun owning citizen cancrack and easily, speedily, and stealthily, with their gun, kill! They complain about all the gang banger killings in Toronto with the guns, but no-onecomplains about Joe Paycheck pullin' the legal gun outta the closet and blowin' the wife away. Or at least it doesn't seem to get the publicsattention like a gang banger drive-by. And all these gun advocates dissappear into the woodwork, or sounds the disclaimer when one of theirs cracks and kills!Andy

For some reason, I don't mind if you correct me, even though you're a gun totin' Momma, I know for surethere's a lot more in your mind. I don't get embarrassed or bent outta shape when it's pointed out to me that my point or thinking may be wrong orflawed! It's debate, but people have to throw out worthwile bones of contention and not ugly little visceral defensive barbs. OL BE BOCK! Andy

Andy, yes anyone can lose it, but they could lose it with a knife, a bat a truck like you said or a gun. it's not the guns that kill, it's the personpulling the trigger, or swinging the bat or driving the truck. now the legal gun owning citizen is much less to crack and use that weapon than a POS gangbanger on the street defending what they think is their turf or shooting the other POS over some crack or whatever...or even killing unarmed citizens for somegang initiation crap....or robbing some poor store owner/clerk. ya see, guns in the right hands do no harm, but guns in the wrong hands do all the harm. therea great benefit to having guns, one to kill game with and eat...thats called hunting. for sport shooting and competions...thats called fun and to some theirjob..and then theres self defense...the thug tryin to rob someone and gets shown a piece...they run..or the thug tryin to break into someones house that getsshown a gun or blown away. and i'm sure that you can find statistics that will support that an illegal firearm or someone not allowed to have a firearm wasused far more in a crime than the legal citizen...make sense? i think so.

Joel- Kitty is a good driver! She likes to run her Savage over child molesters and hypocrits alike without discrimination. Damn i was hoping to get a "Star Trek sucks!"argument going here but i see ex presidents and soon to beare more relative to being off topic. But if youre looking for me to declare a winner for worst of the two then Bush easily takes the cake for most self centereddickwad of all time. Once he's out im gonna be glad to see him and Mr. Cheny retire to their private island. And dont even think about calling me ademocrat! I hate Democrats and Republicans! Its a label that means nothing other than where your zombie allegiance lies.
Justin: Note the word "if" to begin the statement about driving.

But, no. I'm a bad driver, filled with rage, because I post with specifics and logic? Joel- Note the sarcasm in my last reply. Wasnt meant to be taken to heart. And yes Star Trek was a show about one group of people going to other worlds andshowing how people should behave. Hummm. Holy crap this is relative to Bush. Damn now if i could just connect the Star Trek mentality to how the hell itapplies to not executing scumbags we'd have it all figured out.

With all due respect, Al-Quaida never ever was in Iraq until the US re-invaded (Big W left tid-bits for Little W) Saddam hated and had no connectionto Al-Quaida. The US presence in Iraq is what drew them into that picture. This was the plan, to create a battlefield on someone else's turf and not thatof the US. We also know that the #1 reason is to secure a foothold in the Middle East for economic/security reasons based around oil. Someone mentioned otherreasons! One more thing, if in the minds of the American people the US is over there fighting the good fight, I think that's not totally true. If youdefend Kuwait's right to exist (and not just so you guys can have access to that light sweet crude that blows itself outta the ground under pressure) thenyou must ALSO fight for an independant Kurdistan nation. If you don't know, the Kurds are an identifiable ethnic peoples who want their own land andcountry and not be subservient to and oppressed by someone else. They want to be independant. Fight for them too instead of against them. You also mustremember all the evil little dictatorships the US supported in order to get resources from like Chile, or several Central American countries, and without adamn for the peoples of those countries. A political scientist friend of mine used to tell me from first hand knowledge what the effects of attacks by the USsupported Contra Rebels on innocent civilians and 'Subsistence Farmers'. She and some of her colleagues from, CUSO I believe it was she is affiliatedwith, saw first hand . Hideous! And for nothing more than the US's desire to have cheap coffee and bananas on their cereal in the morning, courtesy of theDOLE company, and all in the name of keeping out Communism. I understand the Monroe Doctrine/Hemispheric Domination, and don't really disagree anymorethan a homeowner in a decent neighbourhood who looks out to make sure the neighbourhood stays decent, but what was goin' on there in the '80s underReagan again was nothing short of war crimes by proxy. The Contras for example would let the cotton farmers grow their cotton and harvest it. Onceconcentrated, the Contras would swoop in and burn their entire crops and kill anyone who got in the way, children included. These people only wanted to farm, subside on their crops and live in peace. The US is like England or Japan in the way that, neither of these countries can or are willing to sustain theiroversized populations from the resources to be found internally. They've gotten too fat and demanding, and now find themselves in a panic, like obesepersons run out of food and now find themselves bullying the other kiddies for their Twinkies! Japan need not study whales in the name of science when wereally know all they're lookin' for is to satiate their appetites for a tasty delicacy. If they can't feed themselves without causing whale speciesto go extinct, I'd say they are TOO FAT!!!. Same with England, and the US not to mention other countries. TOO MANY PEOPLE with TOO MUCH GREED! And believeyou me, Canada is not immune from this either. It's just not to the point where it's the imperative to clobber the next guy and take his stuff, and ifI get my way, it won't!!! Oh and to get this thing even further off topic i would like to add that the notion that the war in Iraq is about "fightning terrorists""freedom" and "finding WMD's" is a total load of bull. Even Bush has publicly admitted thats not why we went there after he convincedus all the war was about bringing Al Quida to justice. The truth is we were going to invade Iraq either way. 9/11 was just a unexpected kickstart to things anda quick route to getting all of us to jump on the *censored* Iraq bandwagon. And whats the deal with blaming Clinton exclusively for 9/11? Ok blame him butwhile your on the track to playing the blame game go ahead and condemn Bush as well. I mean if it was so damn obvious 9/11 was going to happen the why the helldidnt the all knowing Dubya do something? Theyre both dumbasses and thats a fact. I always love how people say "ooooo he's evil he caused the wholeproblem! So and so is sooo much better cause he started an invasion and confronted the realities." WTF? If so and so was so much better why the hell didhe let things escalate any further until we had the damn wackos flying planes into buildings? Yeah thats confronting reality alright. Confronting it all theway until they smashed jets into buildings killing thousands before unleashing the mega revelation that it was known but it was the other guys fault. I dontgive a damn who's fault it was. The balme game is for children and not our nations leaders. Point is it was known about and he did nothing so therefore Mr.Bush is equally as worthless as the man who had office before him. Im tired of these dicks playing their little games for their own benifit while realAmericans pour their effort and lives into keeping peace in an area thats just never going to be peaceful.

I have no problems with war (im joining the military after all). War is a necessity to keeping order and balance. If it wasnt for war there would have neverbeen a US Revolution and we'd still be sitting under a tyrannical leader (we kind of are anyway but thats another topic) What i have a problem with is whenfolks get lied to and we wind up fighting for the interests of a few. In 2003 we were told it was about "eliminating an immanent terrorist threat"and "bringing the tali ban to justice" it became clear there was no "immanent threat" in Iraq. Then we get told its about "bringingDemocracy to the Iraqi people". You know what i dont give a rats ass if they have Democracy! Call me un American or whatever the hell you want to but icare about whats happening in our own country and the real threats it faces (like when we get attacked) and bringing those to justice that orchestrated theattacks (Osama Bin laden). Not some half cooked up idea that Saddam had WMD's and Iraq is some sort of Nazi-esque juggernaut thats going to sneak into ourhomes and kidnap our families. No thats a damn waste of time.

We know the real man that caused 9/11 and yet he's free to run around in his crap ass caves like a coward. Because somebody else felt it was more importantto "give Iraq Democracy" (make money). Yeah thats important! Oh and now were told our mission "is to secure Iraq from insurgents" What?Great were being told in a nutshell our mission has gone from one of hunting down the responsible parties in 9/11 to simply not letting things escalate anyfurther than they have in a war that has nothing to do with the original objective. WTF? Great were in the middle of a damn civil war now! Yay! We havefighting all around and our guys in the damn middle of it with nobody other than us giving a rats ass about them. This is the thanks they get for bringingDemocracy to that cesspool? Yeah that was worthwhile. Give em Democracy and then run for cover while they fight it out with you in the middle. Screw Iraq! Letthem blow themselves off the face of the earth. Just get our people out first.

You know its 100% correct that we cant withdrawal now. Bush has cooked up a big enough $hit storm in Iraq that theres just no damn way we can leave withouthaving further festering of terrorist cells. Which BTW were heavily concentrated in Afghanistan pre-operation Iraqi freedom. But someone thought sending aground invasion to Iraq and capturing Saddam was more important. So hooray they all scattered like the cockroaches they are and have split into so many groupsits damn near impossible to eliminate the threat. Yeah it is true prior to invading Iraq we surrounded Afghanistan and sent in Afghani rebels and some specialforces units but thats about it. We treated the real source of the problem like it was no big deal meanwhile we got suckered into pouring all our resourcesinto capturing Saddam that had not a damn thing to do with why we were told the reasons for the war. Point is we should have laid siege to Afghanistan like a madman after cocaine. But we didnt because of other peoples interest. And now people that i know, thousands of young men and women, me, and maybe even mychildren will someday be going over there for years to come trying to clean up the sea of crap that has resulted from other peoples personal agenda. Theres noeasy end to whats going on over there. The worst thing is its the fault of a few that will never be held accountable while the rest of us try to fix theireffin mess. But thats life.

Now hows that for getting off topic?

Star Trek, science fiction? Yes that too, but it was a very political show. The Federation and the ideal, which is not unlike that of the Constitution ofThe US, was embodied in that show and in Kirk, and in context to a multi-cultural society, and in spirit of what the US once was, and was seen to be, andmostly still is! Yes! Take WWII for example and America's valiant effort at stopping a tyrant, typical Star Trek scenario! I've not anything againstkilling someone if you really absolutely have to, but I don't believe in killing someone once you have them contained in a cage. That speaks to thebarbarism in the self. I realize this ideal was being instilled in us, it wasn't just any ol' TV show. Sure they had tasers and killed people withtheir mammoth weaponry, but only in defence of the good against overwhelming odds and as a last resort. They never executed anyone, nor handed anyone over whomight realize such a fate. I really always thought as a kid growing up that that's the way society was programming us to be, through shows like that. Itwas the way I'd want my society to be, and in reality, conducted myself accordingly. I always saw theUS that way or most able to be! Us too, Canadians thatis, and we are! Their society was advanced not only scientifically, but psychologically too! It's the diff between the animals and man! Not Off Topic! It's about the death penalty. I put the topic into the bigger context, there was a big discussion, there were toes stepped on, the overwhelming vocalresponse was for the death penalty, so I guess the RLOL concensus is that the DP for this particular person Rob asked about is unfortunately death. Now mybeing part of a democratic society calls on me to abide by the rules and reluctantly go along, vocally. Lucky for him in reality, he was spared.Andy

Wow. If anyone else needs coordinates to aim fire, I'll grab my GPS and give 'em to youl.

Yes, the US is trying to bring democracy to the middle east. I'm against it. Leave 'em be. The sooner we get away from foreign dependency on oil, thesooner they can get back to their 7th Century tribal squabbling and nobody else giving a crap what's going on in the sand. They were nothing before oilbecame valuable. They will be nothing after the value of oil fades.

Think about this: Al-Quaida is a faction of factions. The cells each have their own leader and each one wants to be top dog of the pyramid scheme. If we killbin-Laden, then all those factions go in a zillion different directions and all hell breaks loose around the globe as each cell leader tries to impose hisdominance. Leaving bin-Laden alive as a central figurehead leader keeps the terrorists in an MO that the opposing forces can defend against.

Kuwait was a nation. Kurdistan is a province. If Kurdistan establishes full independence (beyond the KRG), then the US can recognize that independence andmaybe even send in troops to maintain it (if it so wishes). Otherwise, not the same thing. Close, but not quite. Since oil is the only reason the US is overthere, it would stand to reason that the US would fight to make Kurdistan an independent nation, force them to be a democracy, send in our military, andprotect it from the likes of Syria, Turkey, and Iraq.

Uh oh. Hope Bush doesn't read this board.

Now, I'm not saying that either Clinton or Bush is responsible for the Taliban/Al-Quaida actions. That's possibly the worst argument anyone could make. But I am saying that the way each one handled the agression is important to the current state of affairs. Yes, we have soldiers dying in Iraq. And yes, innocent Iraqis are caught in a maelstrom. But from my perspective, the violence is contained in the region that fosters the violence. It isn't beingspread world-wide. Maybe it's right, maybe it's wrong. But I prefer to have bin-Laden cowering in a cave than orchestrating global terrorism.

We can argue about what was right and wrong until we're blue in the face, but unless someone whips a time machine out of their pocket, it doesn't servea whole lot of good. (And if someone does whip out a time machine, take me back to 1971 and don't ask how I got all those MOMC 442s.)

What the next course of action will be is an important discussion. I don't want the US to be in the middle east any more than anyone else, but I also canaccept reality. I know that there is no easy answer to the issue. There's no X-days to get out as the Democratic congress has tried to impose. I also knowthat Obama has even suggested invading Pakistan. Do we really want that on our plate as well? I think not. I'm not especially up for the Bill-ary dynamicduo again (sorry TexKitty). And I'm not especially pleased with McCain after the Illegal Immigrant Amnesty crap he supported last year.

I give no free pass to Clinton because "the economy was good."

I give no free pass to Bush because there's no reason to.

Joel.

Ya Know, all this new found wealth and resouces in Africa, which is quickly drawing in all the resource hungry superpowers, just might make Africa the wildnew frontier where the superpowers will war by proxy! Could even be the place of the next big showdown...............'Battlefield Afrika'!

Yay! I succeded in running this thread even further off course. I think i might just trump Bush for most irrelevant actions ever for my contribution to thistopic.

Nobody can ever give me a legitimate reason why it was acceptable to leave a concentrated known threat alone. But perfectly acceptable to go after Iraq. Youhad the bulk of those maggots in Afghanistan but we were lax because we were told that the real threat was Saddam. Why? How does that make sense? Thats aboutas stupid as killing a single child molester when theres a whole NAMBLA convention going on down the road. Then you shrug your shoulders when you cant figureout why they fled the convention center and scattered into smaller factions and children start vanishing. Same scenario with Iraq. We pissed in the puddle whenwe coulda just taken a big ol leak in the ocean.

Leave Osama alive? Why? To keep terrorists from taking further terrorists actions out of retaliation? That makes sense. We let him mow us down on 9/11 and thenwe become his biatch out of fear? Im sorry but taking that sicko off the earth is the best thing we can do. Saddom was captured tried and executed. What aboutthat? All the scary capabilities/connections he supposedly had that were going to backfire on us as a result of executing his sorry butt never came to be. Nothats just a lame excuse to protect the image of people that screwed up and dont want to look like dumbasses.

And finally there will always be folks that hate the U.S. You will never and i mean never rid the world 100% that hate us. Its impossible. All we can do iscapture and execute those that harm our nation directly through terrorists actions. Let me be 100% clear on what im saying. You cannot defeat terrorism! Itsimpossible. Terrorists are not like the Nazi army. They are a vast group that fights through random attacks on civilians and avoid military confrontation atall costs. You fight a losing battle when you try to wipe them off the earth. So kill the ones that wronged us and call it a day. We cannot have our right topurge a scumbag be held hostage by our fear of retaliation. Thats the real victory terrorists have right now. Thats why they haven't hit us since 9/11.They have us living in fear and THEY LOVE IT! Im not gonna live in fear. Id rather be a target and go down fighting then a biatch that cowers in fear. Thats noway to live.
Ya know! Talkin' death penalty,........no matter what kind of savage Saddam may have been, I still would have spared his neck. I think that's more ofa strength than a weakness! And about the US jail population. I heard on CBC radio last night an interview with some official from Tejas where she was talkngabout reform down there. She said that amazingly enough, the US not only has more in number of prisoners, but also a higher per capita imprisonment rate thanChina! That is incredible considering their population is 5 times that of the US. I wonder what it is. Regarding China - Andy, I know you are smarter than this. What are the consequences for crime in China vs. the US? What kind of regime is doling out thepunishment in China? How much censorship exists in China thereby limiting the sorts of videos, movies, and games that you spoke of earlier? (And the internet)

That is what's a goin' on there.

Justin: Classic! Remember, Spock had that death grip thing going too. That was a weapon just as much as any other, and more dangerous too. People don'tsuspect the guy with the pointed ears, thinking "oh, he's gonna give me a shoulder massage. How nice!" and plop, they're on the groundpushing daisies. I still think they made stew from all those tribbles but left that segment out when the show aired.

Joel, you have broken the record for being wrong on so many points in a single post.
1) Clinton is not my favourite president. My favourite is dead.
2) Again, you go off all cocksure with your assumptions of what I am going to agree or disagree with. Do you really think you know me that well?
3) You are the king of shifting blame. You conveniently don that cross of yours whenever it suits your mood, depending upon whether you are playing the passive(cross) or aggressive comments about turn signals). You still don't even know which part of your previous post I was going to comment on and now you makedemands that I go back there again?

My driving is considered above par, thanks for asking. Had I not moved back to Texas from Iowa, I would have entered the Spring season behind the wheel of afully sponsored and provided Legends car. I also raced amateur motocross in my teens. I was one of only two girls in Oklahoma at the time who raced with theboys. I think I'm fairly adept at piloting various vehicles.

This is the point where I request that you kindly step off.

Andy: Big W/Little W? I like that. It reminds me a little of some animated show on TV (I think it's on Comedy Central but I could be wrong, as Icouldn't stand more than five minutes of it) called Little Bush (or something like that). Why is it when you say "light sweet crude" in a certainmanner it excites me?

Thank you for mentioning the Kurds. I'm appalled that we're allowing Turkish military to enter Iraq to supposedly "squash an uprising" by theKurds. I'd bet that the only reason we're turning our backs (yet again) on people who are friendly to us is because our government thinks that whenTurkey takes over northern Iraq, they're gonna let us sip from the well of that light sweet crude. Why am I craving a margarita? Um, wait a sec. Is notTurkey the one nation that didn't want to allow our planes to fly over their airspace when we were about to start Gulf War, Part II? I'm pretty surethat was them. I'll remember that the next time there's a horrible earthquake there (for those who don't know, their largest city sits right on ahonkin fault line) and people are taking up donations to help them out. I'll be sure and include a "kiss my ass" note. Mmmmwah!

I really did like your tirade about coffee, bananas and whales. Hmmm.. that would make for a really strange milkshake, would it not? So anyway, it's notthat the Japanese are fat from the whales, it's that there are way too many people there, as well as many other countries in Asia, competing for the samelimited ocean resources. It's not as if they have tons of land for subsistence farming. Save the whales; send them condoms. We're in a bit of anagricultural pickle ourselves. In our haste to grow more sugar corn to produce alcohol and reduce our dependence on oil (riiiight), we have brought about greedto farmers who have switched from other grains to corn in their fields in order to cash in on the alcohol corn market. In the process, not only have we nowcreated a shortage of wheat - in the past we have GIVEN the stuff away because we had so much and now we're freakin BUYING it from Russia - we also createda shortage of yellow corn for human consumption and feed corn for animals. Those five cents per gallon we'll save on foreign oil imports just turned intofive dollars in price increases for meat (those hogs don't exactly eat air, yaknow) and related goods, and was anyone else aware that there have been riotsin Mexico over not being able to purchase corn flour tortillas? No kidding. And where do you think all those people are going to head when they get hungry?

Thanks for the opportunity to add to that tirade. I feel a little better now. And having cravings for cornbread and bacon for some reason.

Justin, you brought up something that has been one of those "WTF?" things in my mind for some time now. Thanks! I still wanna know how in the HELL wewere not prepared for the attacks that happened on 9/11. Weren't we supposed to be taking pages from the Israeli/El Al playbook? Oh, wait, that'sright... we insisted on paying people with less than a fifth-grade education, minimum wage to screen people at our airports. Do they really want me to believethat they never played "what if?" over at the Pentagon and came up with a plan on what to do if and when one (or more) of our commercial aircraftwere hijacked and were going to be plowed into buildings? I know, I know.. traditionally, the rules were to cooperate with hijackers. Did anyone learn anythingbetween 1950 and 2000? What was learned from the blowing up of Pan Am 800 over Lockerbie, Scotland? Apparently not a friggin thing. Why is it that the Pentagonand the White House do not have phalanx-type weapons mounted on their roofs, just in case? I reckon we're back to watching in horror if and when such athing ever happens again.

Someone please tell me, why is it we have billions of dollars to give away to other countries (gotta win them hearts n' minds, right?) when we have peoplein this country - veterans of OUR wars, no less - who sleep on the streets at night and don't know where their next meal is going to come from?

Keep these things in mind when you fill in those ballots this November, folks (those in the US).

Justin, there is a huge reason (well, billions of little ones, actually) why we have not caught and strung up Osama Bin Laden. War is profitable for somepeople. Bush, Cheney and their cronies all are profiting from it. Fuel prices remain high, as Big Oil makes record profits. Hello? CluePhoneâ„¢ ringing!

I LOVE your pervert/Afghanistan analogy! That was beautiful! We may not be able to stop all the world from hating us, but if we'd keep the F out of otherpeoples' business and stop playing world police/masters of the universe, I think fewer would hate us.

On the subject of Saddam Hussein, this I know: when Bill Clinton was in office, we had the opportunity to take him out. A former friend of mine was a sniper, sitting in the friggin desert with his spotter. The only other US military were no where near. If things went wrong, he and his spotter would have to dine on9mms. Saddam was in the crosshairs. Message back to base. Wait to confirm. Call comes back, "are you sure it's him and not a decoy this time?"This time? What? Yeah. We'd shot at least one decoy previously. That's one reason he had so many. "Yeah, we're sure." Wait for orders tofire. Come on, guys, he ain't exactly gonna sit there all day. Call comes in from Numero Uno. Stand down. We've been advised that we're notsupposed to kill other heads of state. Yet another one of my WTF? moments upon hearing this. The 50mm rifle that was possibly destined to off Saddam Husseinwas shown to me. Cool looking piece if you've never held one.

Dare anyone now assume that Bill Clinton was my favourite president?

Back to Andy again. Andy, there is a big reason why there are fewer prisoners in China. There, they execute people for crimes as minor as disagreeing with TheState. I wish you could recall which politician it is in Texas you refer to. Anyway, back to China. I do know a little about the culture and the people. Iunderstand their politics and where they are heading. I see a positive direction. Far fewer people there are executed for disagreeing with the body politic. There was a lot of international backlash over films smuggled out of the country a number of years back, showing prisoners of all types (rapists, murderers, pervs, and the obligatory dissidents) being capped in the back of the skull, then whisked away for their organs to be harvested for sale on the internationalblack market. There were people in India who couldn't get a dime for a kidney in those days.

The culture there is different. It's a lot more based on family, community, and respect. When you have a chance, look up the topic of "keepingface" or "losing face." There still remains some of the same pride in Japan, but in my opinion nothing near what it is like in China and Taiwan.I mentioned previously (in this thread, possibly) about how prisoners were dealt with when I lived in Taiwan. They don't coddle violent criminals. Theyalso have much closer-knit families. When someone is troubled, others talk to them and if need be, intervene. They do this before the person takes off and mowsdown a dining roomful of people at McRamen's. Men who have weird feelings of wanting to get nekkid with a child are sent for treatment. I won't go intowhat that could mean, but I'll just say that if they can be helped, they will be.

People take great pride in themselves and their work in China and Taiwan, as well as a number of other eastern Asian countries. Dare I say oriental. How thatbecame a slur, I'll never know. All my friends in Taiwan still call that region The Orient and are not insulted by being called Oriental. It sets themapart from other Asians. Back to the work ethic part. That is one reason we sent so many jobs to China. Their work ethic, at least until some became rich and, like Americans and other rich Westerners, was very strict and there was a great emphasis in pride of work. That is when losing face brought great shame. Now,many have adopted that Western notion of rich is good. Money is good. Who cares if we kill, maim or otherwise hurt other people? We don't; we're rich!I just hope that for the sake of their future, China does not become too westernised.

Rob: Please tell me you remembered the Cheetos this time.

Jamie: did you catch the news that "Chemical Ali" is up for a date with a rope soon? Thought I'd bring that up, as you mentioned chemicalwarfare. If I recall correctly, this time, it may be done by the people of Iraq, not in some dark military gallows. That means we may get to see it live on theinterweb. I'll pop some corn. We'll celebrate the moment and enjoy the last of the popping corn. The rest will probably end up in my mower this summer.

"Yo ho were going off topic!" Not so fast Captain Bunnysparrow. That statement would mean we were anywhere close to staying "on" topicprior to the statement being made to "go" off topic. Noway. This thread is so lost, we need a GPS stat! Regards, C PS-I used to walk to school and Ibrought my lunch.

But if i made the statement "were going off topic" prior to saying "were off topic" then wouldnt that mean we were on topic before? Butthen how would we have been on topic already if we have already gone off topic long ago? And how would we get back on topic if we ultimately never were on thetopic of the topic at hand? But then wouldnt that mean that the topic thats off topic is actually the topic of the topic? Could that mean that were now ontopic? Or are we simply on topic of the topic thats off topic? Oh buggger! I need my compass!

-Captain Bunny Sparrow
Obviously, English isn't your first language. Otherwise, you would understand, that this thread has rarely be "on" topic, almost all of it,certainly the upper 90% percentile, has been in the off position (everything posted by any person with NDY-following the first letter of their governmentname-the % goes up to and including 100%). So, when you stated, "Now hoist the mainsail and swing out the jib. Yo ho were going off topic!" Wecouldn't be going anywhere, and certainly not going "off topic" because we were already "off" topic. You can't leave and go tosomewhere-when you already there. Not plausible Capt. Now, back to the Star Trek leg of this journey, if we had somehow teleported to this topic and it"was" on, then and only then, could you have made this statement, "Now hoist the mainsail and swing out the jib. Yo ho were going offtopic!" Next topic please. I would motion to redirect, I don't think we have fully covered what Rob did or didn't do in the grocery storeyesterday. Yes, we've addressed paper, plastic, undecided, but the buying of NEON foods should be off-limits entirely. We at the RLOL don't condone theuse of NEON in either food groups.

No-where did I take this thread off topic! No, really, I dare you to go back and read through all of that again! LOL!! Really! Now, I just wanna respond toKitty's bit about the wheat crop. I was just listening to CBC radio where they were talking about Christian beliefs in Europe through the middle and later2nd millenia, (up to the 1800s). They were saying the belief was that post partem women weren't allowed to step onto unripened or unharvested wheat fieldsbecause if they were to within the first month after giving birth, post partem discharge from their naughty-bits (KittyQuote) ( Hey, we have SpellChic andKittyQuote, where's Bill Gates when you want to sell him the rights to some leading edge sofware) would drip onto the field and ruin the entire crop.Maybe this is what's goin' on with the wheat crop in the US. Now, I'm sure they knew what they were seeing was true, after all, when the Church istelling you this, it's gotta be true, and if you dare question it, well, I'd be very carefull that God doesn't strike you down. You know, you wouldthink if anyone would be appreciatve that me and mine have spent centuries debunking all this crap, it would be the ladies, and because the Church had it infor you, Eve, women in general , and your naughty bits and all the evil there-within. Hey, I didn't call it evil or contrive all that garbage,..........and we're not done yet.
