It's a way of life. It's sexual preference that makes people gay (or lesbians) they're just like the rest of us. My next door neighbours do yard work, work on their cars, walk their dog, have full-time jobs, they do all the things that we do, the only difference is that they have sex with the same gender. That's it. I don't care to see that or even think about it but I would never keep my kids from talking to our neighbours.

A few things to ponder on...
So, say the gay neighbor asks your child to come in for some cookies and milk? Would your child go inside? With no one with him?
Say the neighbor has a child the same age as yours and a boy like yours, the neighbor boy asks your son if he can have a sleep over? Do you allow him to sleepover?
Say the Minister of your church is gay and a nice guy and lives just across the street from you, would you leave your children alone with him for any amount oftime at the church? Or would you allow your son to go over alone and visit with him?

I wonder if it would be ok if all of us "straight" people would be allowed to have a "straight American parade?" I wonder if there would beany protests?

I don't give a sh!t about what people do in their bedrooms(Lord knows I have done some things in there...) but when they flaunt the lifestyle, in public, that I don't agree with, DO NOT TELL ME I CANNOT VOICE MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!

Just a couple of thoughts...
Exactly Jeff! I am sick and tired of being told I am closed minded if I don't agree with everyone. It seems to me the people who claim we should betolerant of everyone do not tolerate differing opinions! It is easy to tolerate people you agree with!!
-
What "lifestyle" would that be Jeff?? Improper public contact makes everyone uncomfortable, go to any mall, beach, park or movie theatre and look atthe "young adults" pawing and shoving their tongues down each other's throats and every other feeling up that takes place like there is no onearound, is it ok because they are straight??

As for your minister comment? Have you been paying attention to what's been happening in the mainstream churches? We need to quit pointing out stereotypesand take a good look at every so-called lifestyle!!

Later, Dave

Wow Dave you get out a lot and seem to be where all the young people are??? I'm starting to worry.....

pawing and shoving their tongues down each other's throats and every other feeling up that takes place like there is no one around, is it ok because they are straight??
Someone should let them know Dave is watching.....
I know my neighbours very well(they've lived next door to us for ten years) and if they invited my kids over for cookies and milk, as long as my kids told me ahead of time where theywere going, I'd be fine with it. It would be no different then them going to the other neighbour's house across the street, who they go to all thetime, to play with their daughter. If my gay neighbours had a son the same age as my son and he wanted a sleepover why would I say no? Are you implying his gayparents might molest my son? Or are you implying that the boy might try something with my son just because his parents are gay? Who's to say theheterosexual parents of the little girl across the street wouldn't molest him? They wouldn't and I'm not suggesting they would but to suggest thatbecause someone is gay that they would hurt children, Jeff, I can't believe you would think like that. One of the men is a teacher. He teaches highschoolmath. If your son had had a gay teacher in school, that you'd known about (maybe he did but you don't know it) would you have asked for him to changeclasses? By your reasoning, you're implying that gay men might molest little boys just because they're interested in men. I look after children for aliving Jeff. I'm heterosexual. Would you imply that I might molest the little boys I look after? It's the same thing.

~Karen

Closedminded and narrowminded is thinking that gay = pedophile,
or that your children are going to ask you "uncomfortable" questions.
NOTHING you can say to your children make them want to do something they're not
wired to do anyway. Just ask Dick Cheney.

You don't have to agree with everyone else (a nonsense statement in and of itself),
and yes, you can voice your opinion, no matter how offensive, wrong, intolerant,
biased, hateful and hurtful it may be to SOMEone out there (both sides have that right)
but isn't it just better for all these children we're so allegedly worried about if we set
a better example and just LOVE one another??

...said the atheist, surprise, surprise.

As I read this thread and I'm truly trying to understand the objections that some
have to same sex marrige, what I see is total misunderstanding of the facts,
genuine ignorance, and assumnption.
You have a right to your opinion of course, but at least base it on the facts.
#1 - homosexuality is NOT a choice or a "lifestyle". It's hard wired into the brain,
in about 7 to 10% of ALL HIGHER MAMMALS, of which we humans are part.
There are gay dolphins, apes, dogs, etc etc.
#2 - homosexual adults are not interested in children at any greater rate per population than "straight" people who prey on kids. Gay does not equateto pedophile!!!
#3 - Setting good examples for children starts with RESPECT.
If you don't SHOW respect for same-sex couples, don't you think your kids will pick up on that?? Prejudice is LEARNED.

And all this nonsense about trying to make "intolerance" the baggage of the liberals...
give me a freakin' break. It's so thin, it can't hold up a paperclip.
Like I said, 5th grade. "Is not! Is so! Is not! Is so!"
Let people live, and love. You hate them, and they'll hate you right back.
Show them some respect and some love, and you might just find, as I have,
that same sex couples (as neighbors) are often preferable to the garden variety straights.
