Wow, Robert! I LOVE the 65 'nanner panel truck! No, I have not seen that around town. I definitely would remember that one.<br><br>Steve, I'm with you on keeping the vent windows. I recall a time when having those meant my Bug was air conditioned (by flipping them around to force air into the car).<br><br>I converted the windows on my 69 Baja to the Cal Look and regretted it, so I fabricated duct work from the front and into the cabin for better airflow through the interior.

Where in the heck is that "we're not worthy!" emoticon when it's needed? Wow! You have some serious brass ones doing the front beam yourself. I rewired my entire car (the '69 Baja) from bumper to bumper, did the whole interior from scratch, including speaker system with custom covers, but I still wussed out when it came to an adjustable beam up front. I bought a ready-made, along with dropped spindles (I forgot to mention mine was a street Baja that sometimes went off road, but was so low that didn't happen often).<br><br>Seeing that you'll be keeping the vent windows (cleavage coolers), you really do need bit** windows in the rear (pop-out quarter windows). I was thinking I may still have a pair of those in storage but they'd be the wrong era with the later model hardware. I think the 59s had an ivory knob, but I could be wrong.<br>

I couldn't remember any rules about year models and quarter windows. The ones I'm not sure if I still have or not are from a '71. I had fabricated an additional mount for them when I had them in my Baja so that I could make the fronts pop open too. I was planning to "surf bug" the rear window after paint, but you know the story of how my poor little Baja never got that far.<br><br>I just thought of something. Even if the windows are a different cut, aren't quarter windows flat? I remember when I was doing sandblast etching of windows for people and I was able to lie those flat, which made it much easier to do transitions. Hmmm...

Okay, I wasn't sure about the hand brake, but you know your Bug parts better than I do. Now that I think about it, I remember that shade well. My maternal grandfather had a 59 and a 66. My sister and I rode in the back, sitting on milk crates, clinging to the hand straps for dear life as we would watch the pavement go by really fast through the holes in the floor panels. Those sure were some strong handles, eh? hehehe<br><br>It is SO cool that you have so many pictures to document this restoration. Just remember to keep them away from light sources and dust!

Soon the real fun begins for the rest of us - seeing it all go together. I hope you have a good, reliable shop doing the rechroming for you. This is like a really good, long movie and I have to see it through to the end.<br><br>Thank goodness I get "intermission" breaks.

That is one of many reasons WW has been in business so long and has a 5-star reputation. I remember them from when Dune Buggies and Hot VWs still had pictures where you could still see the cars without the bims sprawled across them. That was prior to business web sites, so all business was done via phone or snail mail. Even then, they had a marvelous reputation in the VW fan circle.<br><br>I "borrowed" that picture from a place that sells the original ads. They have some really cool old VW stuff.

No amount of money can buy the memories you two will share of the time spent together on this project. In a world when parents think that yelling and fighting with officials and other parents at soccer games and filming the moments on digital video are "bonding experiences" this is what is should be like.<br><br>Priceless moments, Steve =) Thank you for sharing them and again, thanks for sharing this ultra-cool rebuild/restoration with us, moment by moment.
