Pete , your Mets had tons of players that used steroids and other illegal substances.. Did you forget about these guys. I bet that yourooted for them. Here are just a few...... Mo Vaughn, David Segui, Scott Schoenweiss, Todd Pratt, Chris Donnells, Hundley, Matt Franco, Paul Lo Duca, MikeCameron, Josias Manzanillos... Heck, I'm tired of copying names from the internet. There were many others. If they got caught and did theirpunishment, paid their fine, then let them be. If they are playing , I'm sure that they are being tested more frequently than someone that's neverbeen caught.

Not to mention the Met crackheads...... Gooden and Strawberry. They even admitted using while playing in 1986! By the time the Yankees got these two, theyhad cleaned up their act. These two did their time (suspension, jail time, fine...) Then they deserved another chance.

If there was no penalty back then , then you can't penalize the player in 2009. A-Rod always gets the most negative press. Manny Ramirez is sometimesroasted in the press but I've never seen David Ortiz being roasted by the press.

You can't focus on A-Rod in such a negative way. He had an outstanding year and he missed the first 6 weeks due to hip surgery. Pete, you should prayeverynight that at least 1 Met player produces similar results in 2010 playing a whole year.

As for role models, I wouldn't want my kid to use any athlete or movie star or singer as a role model.
maribell

Maribell,
I am a Met fan but root for NO team as avid as you seem to for the Yankees, it's just a sport.
All athletes that use steriods are losers in my book.
I just don't know why you are so pro A Rod? Is he a relative? Really, Maribell he's just an over paid drug inhanced man playing a kids sport.
-
I wish. Not a relative. I don't like the way the media / people are so against him and Manny and Ortiz are totally ignored and get a pass. I guess causehis salary is much higher. I hear lots of negative stuff on A-Rod from diehard Mets fan . I find that ironic with all of the players that the Mets had thatused stuff. That's my beef. If you're going to rag on the man, then do it equally to all of the other players that used illegal stuff.

I was disappointed when the news came out but I am not going to hate the man if he plays on my team. I am pro- any player that is on the Yankees as long as hegives 100% and hustles and can plays the game correctly while on the team. Now once they forget to step on third base or start catching balls with one hand, I am not going to like that player. I can't hate a Yankee player for something that they did in the past. Again, if the player paid the penalty and theleague allows them to play , then they should be allowed to play in peace. And yes, this includes Manny and Ortiz.

maribell

I've never seen David Ortiz being roasted by the press.
Maribell you're not in New England to read the papers & hear the sports talk radio shows asOrtiz was and still is, widely criticized for his steroid use & rightly so. The national media may have backed down on him but not so in the Bostonmedia.

Don, I never thought the New England media would roast any Red Sox player except Bill Buckner.

poor Billy Buck was given he&% in Boston but all was forgiven in 04. It's a shame that in his brillent career he'll be most remembered for thatone play. The Boston media may not be as critical as NY's but it's very close & if a player isn't giving 100% they're fair game.

I think people are forgetting that Manny was run out of Boston. (not that he was innocent)

I think people are forgetting that Manny was run out of Boston. (not that he was innocent)
100% accurate there. You just can't get away with shoving a secretary down, smacking a teammate, & bad mouthing ownership withoutgetting shipped out no matter who you think you are. Manny was a great hitter & that's where it ends. He became a virus that got out of control inhis last year in beantown. Claims he didn't get respect which is total B.S. as he got away with so much which management took until they woke up. He'sLA's problem now and it looks like the true Manny's starting to come out there as well.
