Andy, i can't speculate on that, but it's stupid. in the US, if you buy a firearm it's registered to you, and i'm pretty sure the governmentknows about it. but it's only for handguns, shotguns and rifles...not muzzleloaders. i have no problems with gun registration, but taking them away iscrazy!!
Andy- Heres a scenario for you. I know you think that the idea of a government entity being drowned by average Joe and his hunting rifle sound ridiculous toyou but consider this....<br><br>We wake up tomorrow turn on the TV. The government declares that owning of firearms by civilians is no longer going to be allowed. The president declares thatany civilian owning a weapon after May 1 2008 will face imprisonment for failure to comply. What happens now? Well i will tell you.<br><br>First youd have the "barbarians" as you like to call them (NRA, Sportsman, gun collectors, average joe gun owner) all riled up about theirconstitutional rights being taken away. They protest. some get arrested. some shot in a standoff by law enforcement/military. This would go on until the May 1deadline. Then what? Youd have alot of police/military personal questioning "is what im doing right?" as they raided homes of law abiding citizensthat are pissed they are having their constitutional rights taken away. Im willing to bet a big percentage of police officers/soldiers would realize what theywere doing is wrong. Before you know it youd have police turning in their badges and soldiers defecting to join in arms with average joe gun owner.<br><br>And lets not forget that you have state militias (national gaurd etc.) that are first and foremost soldiers of service to their state and preserving its ownlaws and state protection above the federal government. The militias would be armed and ready to fight it out with the feds no questions if something like thiswould happen. So heres a rundown of who all would be on average joes side if this ever happened.<br><br>-Every gun owner in the US. (Theres millions of us)<br>-A overwhelming majority of law enforcement/defecting federal troops that refuse to do such a thing and hold the ideals of freedom and the constitution andprotection of us civilians above what the government orders them to do.<br>-State Militias (Air guard, Army National guard, Merchant Marines, etc.) Weekend wariors are quite underated and well armed! They have tanks, RPG's FighterJets, etc. You Name it they have it!<br><br>VS.<br><br>-Whoever else is brainwashed and unpatriotic enough to still make an enemy out of US civilians. There wont be too many of these folks and thats a guarantee!<br><br>So hows that for a measly force of nobody's? Yeah average joe civilian just became someone not to be messed with! I know you may not understand orcomprehend that every soldier/police officer holds a higher expectation then going to war in Iraq or doing everything the government tells them to but you areso wrong about that! Freedom and protection of the rights of the US citizen are the core values of any soldier or police officer. They still have theirhumanity and sense of justice, freedom, and protection of the innocent. You can take that to the bank my friend.<br>
I think the thing alot of people have with gun registration is, if you register it, the government has a list of who has what. Although that doesnt seem like abad thing, if some looney came into office who says to abolish all guns in the US from private owners, there is no way to protect yourself. They know you got'em, they come and steal them from you, and you're left up a creek without a paddle, trying to defend yourself from the hooligans who didnt follow theregistration law in the first place, trying to ward off criminals with your spatulas (hey I just went full circle!).<br><br>Rob, isnt that only true if you buy a gun new, or buy a pistol? Nothing more to really discuss. The facts are there. I dont think much else can be said on the original topic without rehashing everyting. If this were a JerrySpringer episode this would be about the time for jerrys final thoughts. Actually that time would have come pages ago. Heres some of mine.<br><br>DP or LWOP? Unfortunately for most its all about feelings and emotion. Theres very little logic from most people when they favor one over the other. Most ofthe pro lifers get tied up in their own emotions about it not being pleasant rather than looking at the logic of why it makes sense. On the other side theres amajority that simply favor the DP out of emotion as well. Its about revenge for some of them. Both are understandable feelings about the DP. But ultimatelythey are both unrelated to the real issues. In the end it is about simply paying back society in the form of what you took. No emotions about it. Just likepaying a toll. You wish to drive on the new interstate then you pay $1. You want to murder, rape, or molest children? Well you pay in the form of your life.Its the idea of paying what you owe. Nothing more nothing less. Emotion makes it about the wrong reasons.<br><br>Justice is not an illusion. Crime is not an illusion. They both are very much a reality. To say Justice is an illusion is a invitation to lawlessness and ademise of society. Again let the naysayers call it what they want but Justice is about paying the penalty for your legal infractions. Theres nothing falseabout it. Justice becomes a false ideal when it is administered out of the hopes we will feel better once it has been done. Thats not the reality. Nothing canmake us really feel better about executing someone. The objective of having laws and penalties such as the DP for breaking them is because it serves as adeterrent. If you face having to pay the ultimate penalty for your actions in the form of your life then it makes one think just that much harder about whatthey are going to do. <span style="font-weight: bold;">True justice</span> is about paying what you owe and deterring criminal acts out of fear of punishment.The reason why murder and such is so rampant is because of the decline in a DP sentence. Scumbags dont see prison like we do. Its a slap on the wrist to them.Its a place where they can have all the power they desire and all their living expenses paid for. Make them all start paying the penalty for murder in the formof their life and you may very well have people thinking twice about killing their pregnant mistress. And if you dont well they still paid what they owedsociety. Its a simple concept thats complicated because of feelings.<br><br>Guns are a modern sword. Without them youd still have war and crime. Thats how mankind is. You can argue the idea that its ridiculous someone would rob a 7/11with a chainsaw if guns were outlawed. But that would be the ridiculous reality of it. Man would just revert back to more crude of weapons. Theres no stoppingviolence. The only answer is bettering the justice system and making stiffer penalties for criminal behavior and trying to reach out to those in crime riddenareas at an early age before they too turn to crime. Going soft on murderers does not solve the problem. Banning guns does not solve the problem.<br><br>For those that think civilians are the governments biatch either way and that the freedom to keep and bear arms wouldn't make a difference in a fight forconstitutional rights. I urge you to read what i wrote earlier. And while your at it read the Constitution. The power lies in the armed number of civilians andthe core beliefs that our public servants have about protecting the freedom of civilians. This isnt Canada. Its not the UK. We have a constitution for thisvery reason. Our nation was founded and forged by an armed rebellion. The constitution and the silly rights that come with it like the freedom to keep and beararms are a result of that event. Its not about Joe Blow wanting to shoot at tin cans, or Johnboy wanting to shoot his wife for cheating on him. Its aboutreminding the powers that be we still have a way to fight back. Its about scaring the crap out of them so theyll think twice when they want to wrong us. If youdont understand that then you truly are living in a fantasy world of denial.<br><br>Andy im joining the military not because of my want to go to Iraq but because i believe there will one day be a need for soldiers to fight for a more worthycause. I also want to be a police officer someday and what better place to gain experience than the military. Yes i love writing. In fact i have been writinga novel for over 6 months now. But im young and id rather serve society first and then someday come back and be a writer or work in film. Theres no conflict ofinterest about it. I believe in service to ones country. Be it under poor leadership or great leadership. However there is a fine line of serving your countryin an unpopular war and directly hurting its freedom. I'd think you're on the right path to realize your goals Justin and am sure of your success! Maybe look at the CID thing. A friend of our familymarried and American guy who is just that. I held his badge in my hand. He wouldn't show his gun though. I believe US CID guys are about the only UScitizens who can cross into Canada carrying their service weapon and not divulge this to border officials. Namely, feelings and emotions such as rage, and hatred, and revenge.<br><br>For me, being against the death penalty is a cold, hard, logical decision. Put simply, it doesn't work. It accomplishes nothing other than to try andsatisfy those feelings and emotions noted above.<br><br>I am against the death penalty because I am one who is always trying to achieve a positive outcome for all of society. I don't consider satisfying feelingsand emotions of rage, revenge, etc., a positive outcome.<br><br>The only way I can see to institute change towards understanding criminals and hopefully reducing crime is to keep them alive.<br><br>Kill them and you automatically lose anything that could be gained.<br><br>Cold, hard, rational thinking in trying to improve our society. He said the Police use the gun registry 6000 times per day in Canada. It's an invaluable tool in accessing how they will approachpersons or residences. He's pro registry. The gun lobby and the current right wing government wants to dismantle the previous Liberal government'screation of said registry. He also mentioned 2 other points to consider. They wanna know if there are guns registered to a residence where a released convictwill move into. They also said that guns in particular are used in suicides in numbers that far outnumber their use in crimes. Numbers: roughly 50 gun murdersin Toronto annually. This implies more than 50 suicides made absolute by using a readily available gun. They otherwise may have survived, although if someonereally is hell bent on doin' it, they will find a way. They and the governments of various levels want the confiscation of all hand guns. The federal right wing Christian element government says the registry has to go now! Costs too much! Any comments? My point is, people CAN grow up under the crappiest conditions and still do something with their lives. Still, many others decide that it's easier to sit on the curb andbitch about how sucky their lives are and try to take the easy route to the big money by selling drugs. Pro-Lifers (non baby form)-in the last week, just in one LA tiny harbor city, a series of shootings have occured. Just in a 7 day span only. 8 folks women andchildren shot or killed at a bus stop-no word on if any bangers were actually hit. A high school football star, shot in his front yard, great kid, good grades,non-banger-dead. Yesterday, a family of 4 going to buy a new car, opened fire upon, their 6 year old son is on life support-word is, the toddler was anon-banger. All these folks had something in common, they were black, and were fired upon by Latino's. Where did the race war begin, P R I S O N. So, keepstacking the animals, so WE can continue to be unsafe waiting for the bus, standing in our front yards, of heaven help you, if you need to buy a car. Housingthese animals with no real threats is moronic anymore. Prison are so full, and more being built, and your prison system effects plenty of outside communitiesas well. LA doesn't have a race war goin on, Pelican Bay, Chino, Susanville, have RACE wars goin on. Until there is a movement to get tough on crime, and Idon't mean longer terms, there is NOTHING that is going to get better, nothing. There is no education to prevent crimes. We can give kids condoms, but wecan't have real visual impacts of what crime does to the victim and the victims, the devastation it leaves, the families torn apart.
