That'sthe reason why Illinois put a moratorium on death penalty cases - some people were shown to have been wrongly convicted. That's just a drop in the bucketwhen it comes to first degree murder charges. There <em>are</em> injustices. That we can agree on, but you're wanting everyone to fart sunshine andlollypops and it'll all make the world a happier place. Guess what, dude? It ain't gonna happen. People will continue to rape, torture and murderothers, including children.</p><p>So what say we find a large island in the pacific with shark-infested waters so that people can't escape (hey, who would want to? Read back throughmy posts in this thread. I addressed the issue in regards to those unable to understand their crimes. Those are few in number. In fact, more people try to fakebeing unable to stand triel than there are those who indeed are not of sound mind. The last time I was called for jury duty, the defendant was being chargedwith a violent felony. They did not specify which type at that point of jury pooling. The subject of mental capacity to stand trial came up. I had beenobserving the guy for a while, as he was behaving as though he grew up riding the short bus. A few times, I noticed him respond to some questions, taking aquick peek at the jury pool. Busted, dude. I stood up and asked the judge for permission to approach, and did. I pardoned myself for my bluntness and language,then told the judge that I'm a behaviourist and in all honesty felt that the defendant was full of crap.<p>I was excused and have not received a jury duty notice since. Oh, and the guy was found able to stand trial, did so, was found guilty of aggravated sexualassault and aggravated assault with intent to kill.</p><blockquote> I just have a real problem with executing people once they have been contained. The top video games involve carjacking, killing, blowing things up, and so on. A lot of people are pretty numb to violence.<p>Mere knowing that there is a death penalty has no effect for the vast majority. Do you actually think that people stop and ponder "hmmm.. if I off thisdude, I could get the death penalty."? Hell no. They know the system and figure they'll get a sentence that they'll only serve four to eight yearson, then back out on the streets again. I was appalled yesterday to learn the sentence of one guy for killing someone was along the lines of life in prisonPLUS 60 years. As if that makes sense in the first place. What are you gonna do, keep em in until they die and then keep their corpse behind bars for another60? Pfft. My point is, he may qualify to be out on the street again in 30 years. That is why people demand truth in sentencing laws.</p><p>Now, knowing all that, do you actually think that someone fears a stiff prison sentence, much less a death penalty that in most places means he'll spendthe rest of his life in prison? That is why some of us propose televising executions. Just to give a refresher for anyone that did not hear about this in the national news. last year in the summer, a woman and her unborn baby were murdered by aCanton police officer. the woman was Jessie Davis and the officer was Bobby Cutts Jr, he was married and she was his girlfriend...and they already had a twoyear old boy together. he was found guilty of murder for Jessie, and two counts of aggravted murder for the unborn baby, which was his and was about a week orso from full term. the aggravated muder convictions bring the possibility of the death penalty. and penalty phase of his trial just finished up, and now thejury will decide his faite. so here is my question, would you as a juror spare him his life or send him to his death?

Send him to his death...plain and simple.

Hey Rob,<br><br>That's not really a fair question, without knowing all the facts and circumstances brought out in the trial, I'm not against the death penalty, I'mfor it. Only the jurors with all the facts/or the judge with all the facts can make that determination.<br><br>Denny

If I would have walked in on this crime, I wouldn't have a problem killing the perp on the spot, and no-one should ever have to pay the price forintervening in such a crime, BUT, once the perp has been apprehended in one or several pieces, it is nothing short of barbarism on the part of the state tohold a person with that sort of eventual outcome. I'm against capitol punishment, period! And for anyone who's concerned about the cost ofincarcerating someone for life,......it's more expensive to battle in court for death! I'll tell you what barbarism is,....Texas executing mentallydeficient minors. That's hideous an no more above that of this perp's actions. I understand that he, or the victim was Canadian. Could be wrong. If youmurdered my mother, you'd be the lucky recipient of my humanity. And if you are a Christian, you have no choice but to do what Jesus would have done, andyou will know that there is no conflict between the commandment 'Thou shall not kill', and the 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth' thing as aneye for an eye was never intended as a form of retaliation of equal consequences. Life imrisonment isn't sparing him his life. He'll never have a lifeagain in prison and he'll agonize to no end. Personally, if given a choice, I'd opt for execution were I him, or any others. I would say take the fu***er out back and put one in his ear and be done with it....then Id be dismissed from jury pool......I dont care if hes a cop ornot.....only thing worse than a child molester/killer is a SOB that would kill a pregnant woman. he deserves to roast in hell......not that I believe in thatplace, cuz Im not a Christian, but its fitting.

I never understood the whole make the death sentance humane...if you did something bad enough to deserve the death penalty, why should your demise be pleasant?<br>I say toss 'em through a wood chipper feet first or something, but being basically put to sleep then injected with a tiny needle is pathetic.<br><br>Oh yeah, I'm kinda with Greg on this one though...the worst punishment they could give him is put him in jail with no chance of parole, and let it be knownhe's a cop (no offense to any of you in law inforcement) and a baby killer, and put his happy ass in the middle of the excersize yard.
