What book are you reading?

I was wondering if anyone is reading a good book? I am reading a book called The Shack and it is an amazing book on our relationship with God. I am not a realreligous guy and im not pushing anything with this book but it is a really well written book and made me think. It is a very hard book to relate to though, assomething horrible happens to a child in it and her dad needs to get God back in his life and God asks him to return to The Shack where it happened to talk fora weekend.<br><br>Well I hope to get some good new books to check out.

Finished Annie Proulx's "Close Range" a few weeks ago; a short-story compilation, most of which are about ranching in Wyoming over the pastcentury. She's known best, probably, for the short "Brokeback Mountain," a story that - as it usually goes - far surpasses the film. Finishedyesterday Cormack McCarthy's (our best contemporary fiction author, says I, hands-down. For evidence, read "The Road") "No Country for OldMen." If you liked the film - and who didn't - you'll enjoy the book even more; it flows with such a pace that adds clarity and legitimacy to thetale, occasionally lacking in the otherwise great movie. Edit: Today, I began the same author's "All the Pretty Horses."

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. Pretty typical Koontz, the bad guys are horrific, weird stuff happens and there are a couple twists.

<p>I just finished The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes. This book is outstanding and if I had even a basic understanding of science I'm sureit would be twice as good. Go to the library and check it out......so to speak..<br><br>Joe - If you enjoyed that book I'm sure you would like the following:<br>The Smartest Guys in the Room - This is a great book about how Enron hosed everyone. Written by Peter Elkland<br>Barbarians at the Gate: The Fall of RJR Nabisco - Bryan Burrough<br>Titan - Every wonder how Rockefeller became the richest man in the US? Read this. I personally thought the author gave a biased narrative of the man butthat's my opinion.</p><p>I turned cable TV off eight years ago and have never regretted it for a moment. Thanks for the recommendations Lane.<br><br>I actually have Titan. Historical biography's are possibly my favorite read. Picked it up a while back. <p>I agree with you Joe. Add Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson to your reading list. This is one you'll start one morning and not stop until it's done. Blood Lands is another. It's about stealing oil from Indians in Oklahoma and will make you cringe.</p><p>Lane</p><p><br><br></p>
