The last half dozen times someone died and someone else here made a post about it,
i.e. the typical "R.I.P. so-an-so", you made the comment that we're all here like
RLOL vultures or something watching the obituary columns for something to post.
Kennedy's been dead for 3 days and no one has made a post about it yet...until you just did!

I'm guessing it's because of what you predicted in your opening line;
it's likely to become political - after all, Kennedy was known as the "Liberal Lion",
and on the far-left, even though he was one of the few senators who actually knew the art of compromise.
Love him or hate him, he loved his country and worked hard for what he believed in.
He also made more of a lasting impact (for better or for worse, whatever your take on it is)
on American politics than most of the Presidents who served during his near half-century in the Senate.

So back to your question: Why is he almost in the ground, so soon after dying,
and Michael Jackson isn't - so LONG after dying?
In a nutshell, Kennedy's death was expected; anticipated. Brain cancer.
Michael Jackson's death was a shock (of sorts), largely unexpected and on top of that....it could be milked.
I doubt many people on either side of the political aisle would tolerate a circus lasting half this long
for Ted Kennedy's postumus "life celebration".

PS - I for one think Kennedy's wake and funeral have been tasteful and poignment.
Greg

PPS - More foot contests require your vote and immediate attention, Dave!

Greg

I was actually being VERY factious Greg, but thanks for the response anyway!!!!

Back TO FEET!!!

Dave
Because Mikes family loves him so much they want to have all the time they can have with him before they bury his body...or at least that's what HarveyLevin says...
with all of jacksons plastic surgery you could keep him on ice for years and he'll still look the same. after all plastic does not decay like flesh does
LOL!!! So what's left, the plastic and everything else is gone??? Kinda like Lennon???? Hmmmmm.......... MORE ticket possibilities for Joe Jackson!!
How long did it take to get James Brown buried?
James Brown is BURIED?????????? I thought they had him laid out at one of those "eternal flames"!!!
It took months to bury James Brown. But at least , the family was fighting to put him in a zoo-like atmosphere and charge admission like in the M. Jacksoncase . I thought that they were going to bury Michael on Aug.31.. Anyway, it's ridiculous.

maribell
I thought Teddy's service today was exceptional. I don't know,as a child, how one can eulogize their own father without being an emotional mess...thattakes great strength.

Anyone know why Teddy Jr is not in public service. He struck me as a much better public and smoother speaker than brother and Sen Patrick, who came across assomewhat quirky and overtly political ( for a funeral service).
For Jr,the look, the smoothness, the message, were definitive Kennedy..and Yes,it was his father's funeral, but this might be his coming out.
The common thread of "never give up/you CAN do it" really struck a cord with me.

The family stories and history are triumphant/tragic,and just plain fascinating. Such an American Dynasty.

To the man, yes,he's admitidly had his flaws, but what an American icon, and what a run.

As for the thread subject..As long as we stay non partisan...

F.
