Australian Built Police Cruisers 4 THE US! HERE ARE THE PICS.

<strong>This may sound strange...but i have heard that GM Australia(OWNED BY USA GM AND ENGINES/PARTS SUPPLIED BY AND MADE IN THE US( which is here, in my hometown of Melbourne), may be commissioned to build the Long wheel base flagship GM Commodore, more namely the "Caprice" to be the next Cop Car for allof the US!! thats approx 75 thousand cars....They'll be a rear wheel drive. Gen 4, all alloy 350 chev, 6 speed auto, Extra heavy duty Trans axle. 17inchsteel wheels....I'll shoot the mag pic of it tomorrow...but it looks super dooper nice...all decked out in the standard black and white color scheme. I read something a few months ago about an upstart company building nothing but municipal vehicles, but this makes much better sense. The little GM midsizecars now used always seemed inadequate to me, so this is good news. Bring on the pictures!<br>

That would be cool, as it is the Crown Vics are only made for fleet &amp; can't be bought by regular Joe. If this works out then maybe they'll beavailable for the regular consumer. I hate FWD and AWD makes little sense to anyone not on the snowbelt.........

Nothing personal as I expect an Aussie would be excited about this (understandably so). If the local police were looking to buy a car I would chip in my twocents and state that it should be a U.S. built car as it is our tax money being used.<br><br>The last Caprice was an excellent car that GM screwed up royally with to build more trucks.

I just hate that... GM's attempts at rebadging Holdens or Opels just doesn't work. The Commodore is a halfway decent car in its own right (it wasalready here as the Pontiac G8 btw....) but it is very clearly, philosphically, NOT a Caprice! I offer GM's latest failure with the rebadged Holden theycalled the "Pontiac GTO" as a prime example of how it doesn't work. And I don't think the Constabularies will like them very much either, asthey generally prefer full-size cars.

<font color="#003399">That Holden didn't work because they tried to pass it off as a modern version of the GTO. Perhaps, if they sold it as Holden Chevyor Holden Pontiac, or just plain Holden, it would've sold better. Nothing about that car reminded me of any past GTO. It was also way overpriced at morethan 35,000.oo +. <br><br>I don't know much about front wheel drive vs. rear wheel drive but what is so bad about the current Impala or the new Ford Taurus? Wouldn't makingthem with bigger engines give the police enough power to catch up to the suspects in a pursuit? WHy can't those be suitable police cars? Is it thatthese 2 cars are NOT wide enough to accomodate all the stuff now put inside police cars? Is that there is no room for the equipment and perhaps to "big" officers? <br><br><br>maribell<br><br></font>

The new GTO was a great car. It just wasn't a GTO. In the same way, only a Caprice can be a Caprice.<br><br>Call the Holden car a GM Holden Interceptor or something.

I heard it will be based on the "old" Pontiac G8.....<br><br>Steve
