Unemployed

I left for work this morning thinking... Good its payday! Well upon arrival, I was immediately told by some people that have direct deposit, that the moneywasn't in their account this morning.......Not good!! A little while later someone from our corporate office arrived, to explain that some deals fellthrough, our company is broke, they're closing the doors.......and there is no money left for payroll (they owe me around a month's pay, and I don't know if I'll ever seethe money!!!) They are supposedly, still trying to put something together to pay us employees, and will possibly try to start back up on a smallerscale.......Unbelievable!!!!!!

Sorry for the long read, I just needed to vent!

I'm a member of that club right now. Being unemployed sucks in many ways. I wish you the best of luck.

Sorry for the long read, I just needed to vent!
That's understandable. I'd be p.o'd and upset too. I hope they're able to work something out sothey can at least pay everyone what they're owed. Fingers are crossed for you that you are able to find work elsewhere pretty quick.

~Karen
I wish you all the best.Try to ward off resentment and discouragement. There are going to be some hard times ahead.A positive attitude is the key to making itthrough.I hope I can take my own advice if the time comes.---mike
From being in that situation before, I thought that they have to pay you for your work, if they don't it is illegal. They tried to buy that same line withme as weel, that they were spending too much money and that they might be closing down and that they need to cut me and a few other employess immediately, andthat we might not get paid. I know how bad your proabably venting. I would tell them I want my month's salary now and don't care what you have to do,but I want my money now.
Eric

I'm sorry I don't know what to say. The workforce is wobbling everywhere.
Stay strong for yourself & family.

-
Bummer Russ. That really blows. Hopefully it will all work out for you for the better.

The workforce is wobbling everywhere.
This is very true, and true for the self employed as well, and small business owners...I've never seen my field as bad as it is rightnow.
Sorry you got laidoff Russ hopefully they will come with your $$. Its been the same where I work I dont know if Im gonnahave a job past this year.
This is the worst job environment Ive ever seen period. Half the jobs are being outsourced overseas to India itssickening.....

DON
Sorry to hear about that Russ. I hope you can find something soon......
-
Sorry to hear this.
Good luck in finding something quick and I hope you get all your back pay. Sign up for unemployment asap so that there will be something coming in soon.
Tim

That stinks!! There is just something sacred about wages. When we work for somebody, do our part of the deal and they try to cheat us, it's like apersonal insult beyond just the money. I hope you get justice.

Things have been bad here in Oregon for a long time. This state was built on the timber industry and all the related business. loggers, truck drivers, millworkers etc. Then along came the overzealous environmentalists they managed to stop most logging operations, and cripple the local economy.

So the spotted owls are doing fine, but the people are standing in line for a gas station job. We need to protect our resources, but with logic and commonsense. Aren't gainfully employed citizens considered a valuable resource? Michael

sorry to hear you too joined our 'club' I'd highly suggest getting in contact with your local L&I office and that you didnt get paid for workyou provided!!!

Sorry to here about your luck, I was there also, out of work for eight months and I just found a job but there is no guarantee I will make it through the 12Weeks of training, I could be out of work in a few months again. It was my first time ever with out a job as an adult.

Do go on line and fill out the forms for unemployment insurance asap as it will be three weeks before you get a check in the bank from the time you do it.

-
Hmmm..Sorry to hear the news Russ.

Sounds like some good advice posted above.

Good luck..We all could use some.

Frank

Thanks everyone for the advice and support!
-
Yup - I feel for ya as well. I got laid off about a year and a half ago - been surviving week to week working piece-meal jobs for who-ever needs a hand just toget by. The unemployment rate around my area is pushing 10% with no let-up in sight. The days of having a guaranteed full time job until you retire aredis-appearing fast !

Mark.
-
TRUE THAT! I would say in my line of work the unemployment rate is WAY above 10%

U.S. car companies need to produce good , small cars. They still don't see the writing on the wall . Americans need to buy what is best for them. Buying a great small American car or small SUV is not possible for any American person in the USA because there is no such animal......at least not in the USA. US car companies are developing and selling small cars in the but for the European and South American market and not the USA. Sure , gasoline prices aredropping but for how long? Unless you own a boat or trailer or work in construction or haul lots of people / stuff , you're an idiot to buy a big SUV togo to the supermarket. US car companies have way too many big cars/suvs/trucks. That is the problem.

Sorry to hear about your job loss again but perhaps you layed-off employees can pressure the American car companies to start producing the good small carsthat they produce abroad. Why isn't the Ford Fiesta here yet? WHy isn't the Ford Ecosport brought here ( a small SUV that looks like a smallerEscape.) When is the Chevy Cruze going to arrive here ? 2011 2012? WHy is this American car being sold abroad first? (I think that I know the answer tothis one... Chevy wants to get rid of the Cobalts first...)

maribell

I am sorry to read about so many people losing their jobs.

I work in the microchip design field and it's one that at one point only had a few hundred people worldwide thus getting and keeping very good paying jobswas easy. Since the job came around in the late 60s, there has never been much of a time when one couldn't get work...if they were willing to temporarilyrelocate. Within the last 3 months, I've been getting calls and/or hearing through the grapevine about a lot of people not being able to keep their jobs orfind new jobs in this field. Very scary for an electronics niche that has been going strong for over 40 years...during other working field good and bad times. My wife is one of those unemployed right now, but this is mostly due to our unwillingness to move. We want to spend a winter in Arizona, in our own house. Soit's our own doing.

Good luck to those out there looking for work.

Mike
HWsMinis

The economy is pretty bad all around. My brother works in a body shop w/ 10 employees in Queens, NY. They are barely getting work in tokeep everyone busy. A few of the guys were told to stay home this week. People are not fixing their cars. When there is a minor accident, people are notfixing the cars...They do get cars to fix from Hertz but people are also renting less now.. Less car rentals= less work...

The other day, my boy went backwards and banged his 93 Toyota against a fence post. The fence post won. The kid ripped the front bumper off the car and badlydented the frontfender. I had my brother screwed the bumper back on. The fender was banged into a shape and a few screws were added to make sure that itdidn't come off. I clearly saved my boy at least $400.oo...

Hopefully, things will change soon.

maribell
