An absolute blast! Doug was the best, patience beyond all, took my bro" and I out for an awesome day on Lake Saguaro. This place is unreal as most ofthe SW is...just too cool! I am very grateful for Doug's hospitality taking two mad Jabroni's like us out for the day. Despite my best efforts westill managed to catch a few fish! The Cards sucked but my bro' was happy to see his Vikes! Even ate tangerines off the tree, no better breakfast thanthat!

Colin

Hey Colin!

Assuming that you're staying in Glendale, Lake Pleasant would be the closest to you - about 30 easy miles north. Sahuaro Lake would be the next closest -about 50 miles to the east (once again, an easy drive). As the time gets closer, remind me about this. I'm not sure what may be going on but if I can,I'll get you out onto the water (it would give me a reason to install that fish finder my wife gave me!).

Doug
Doug,

LMK if you need any help w/ the installation. I know nothing about it, but will gladly be there for morale support.

Mike
HWsMinis
Sounds like a redline fish gathering.
Very cool...take pictures!!

yup looking forward to colins "whopper that got away"
Doug,

YH a yuku...

C
Man, that sounds like a BLAST!!! I've been jonesing for an Arizona move for years with my company. We have several studios in the Phoenix area and one inGlendale, I love the place! Of course when you REALLY want something, you are doomed to fail..... Such is life baby!!!

Have fun guys!!!
Colin,

My calendar's free on the 13th - I just put a call in to my wife to make sure that she hadn't made plans that I wasn't aware of... I'll get intouch with you as soon as I hear from her.

Doug

I've been jonesing for an Arizona move for years with my company.
Dude, people wear sandals, flip flops and go barefoot here all year long! You sure you're ready for that???

Doug
Doug,

Ever fish hear, it's about 45 minutes from where I'm staying...Apache Lake, sez they have large & small mouth bass and even Walleye as well asStripers and Calico! Course I'm on your recommendation first and foremost!

C
Colin,

Apache is the third in a series of four lakes just outside the Phoenix area. Saguaro Lake is the closest to the east valley where I live, followed by CanyonLake, Apache Lake and Roosevelt Lake. Saguaro and Canyon are fairly easy to get to, Apache (the last time I was there) was kind of a p.i.t.a. to get to withalot of dirt road to navigate and Roosevelt (the biggest of the four) is about and hour and a half or more from my place.

Since you're coming for the game, I was assuming that you'd be staying in the Glendale area. Lake Pleasant is the best bet from that area (westvalley). Pleasant is bigger but isn't as pretty as Saguaro or Canyon but I gather that scenery is not really what you're interested in, is it? You can google all of them. I know that there are also videos ofPleasant & Canyon on YouTube (check out Humbug Cove at Pleasant ). I would add that if Walleye were common here, my father-in-law would come visit from Michigan a heck of alot more than his current once a year (sorry)... Bassand trout are pretty good bets.

I'll yuku you for your details...

Doug
Send me a picture if you pull a trout of any of the 5 lakes you mentioned. I fished those lakes for years and never once caught a trout. Figured the water wastoo warm for them. Caught a lot of small mouth bass though.

Doesn't look like I'll get to join in, so have fun.

Mike
HWsMinis

Scorpions...I haven't seen one in a month or so (knocking on my wood desk right now). Though another friend of mine just found one a week ago. They'restill around, just not that mobile.

Snakes...a coworker of mine missed a couple days recently. When he came back, he told me he had been in the hospital due to a rattlesnake bite. He was walkingin his yard at night and felt something strike his ankle. His first though was "oh no, this is gonna suck". He saw that it was indeed a rattler andhad his wife take him to the hospital. They couldn't find any trace of venom. Turns out it was a "dry" bite...I guess a rattler can tell ifyou're a threat/dinner or not...

I love the desert.

Mike
HWsMinis

Can't wait to hear the stories from this trip! Can the penguin take the heat in the desert!?
Dang... Anyone else feel the pressure on me to make sure that Colin pulls at least one fish out of the water? Scooter,

Hope ya sent the Tequila and cigars in time for my trip...o-nite them to my hotel...chop-chop!

C
Don't send him Cuervo or Patron (hack). If you're gonna drink tequila in AZ. pick up some Hacienda, Cantera, Toltec, Centenario or the every faithfulHornitos. For less money than Patron of nasty arse Cabo Waboe, these teqilas are far superior.

Mike
HWsMinis
Funny how people go nuts over Patron, usually the silver. Stuff is like drinking terpentine...it's so overrated it's rediculous...
My current favorite is actually made by Cuervo, a Tequila Rod aka madhunter brought to the convention from Mexico called Traditional. Man, all I can say about Colin is...

"What a friggin' wimp!" I mean, look at the pictures! Here he is, direct from Buffalo, and who is wearing a t-shirt? Me! Check him out... Oh, it's cold..."

I've gotta rag him about something 'cause I just had a fantastic time with Colin and his brother. They are two of the nicest guys you couldask to meet and had me laughing the whole time we were on the lake - recounting stories, harassing each other (and me!), b*tchin' at the fish, etc, etc. Something tells me that there aren't too many dull moments with Colin around - I can only imagine their family reunions!

They met me at Bass Pro Shops straight from the airport on Friday afternoon (though the car rental guy tried sending them to Tucson) and we picked up suppliesand their fishing licenses. I led them to get dinner but had to head home myself. I called Colin shortly after 9:00 to let them know exactly where and when Iwould meet them in the morning (note to self and others: never call Colin after 9:00!, lol...).

I hooked up with them at about 7:30 Saturday morning and we were on the lake by 8:00 or so. Much to Colin's chagrine, I took them on a quick tour of thelake before we started fishing (he had his line in the water before we even got out of the no wake zone!). We spent about 3-4 hours trying this area or thatarea, trolling here and there, and ended up catching squat - not even a nibble. I'm getting nervous at this point 'cause I know Colin's gonna gohome and never let me hear the end of it right here on RLOL. At some point Colin's brother needed to make a pit stop. Luckily for him, I was driving asColin never would have let him do it - there were fish to catch gosh darn it (mind you, this was after 4 hours on the water)! It was also lucky for us as wemet a guy that was experienced at fishing Saguaro and he pointed us in the right direction. One of us also figured that we might want to try some live bait. Who was that again, Colin (hint: it wasn't me)? Anyway, with worms in hand, we headed out to the area suggested to us and literally within probably 10-15minutes we had our first fish (small-mouth bass). We spent the next 5 hours pulling fish from within probably 100 yards in either direction of this spot - wehad small-mouth bass, large-mouth bass, catfish and even a few sunfish. Oh, the "big one that got away"? Actually there were two - a beautifullarge-mouth and a huge catfish - and BOTH were mine! And both due to Colin's skill at tying hooks. No hard feelings, Colin. If it weren't for youthey wouldn't have been on my line in the first place. After a great day, we pulled out of the water shortly after 5:00 or so. Enough typing, here'sthe pics:

Colin (right) and his brother (I could swear that his brother took one of Colin and me right after this but I can't find it)

Saguaro Lake is a bald eagle preserve.
