Wrangled with food poisoning last week (suspect bratwurst), which lasted for two days and afforded some daytime movie-time for me. I stuck with science-ycreature movies, for which I like to keep my standards up ('Predator,' 'Cloverfield,' 'The Mist,' etc.). What do you say is theabsolute BEST creature in movies EVER? Hands-down: the original alien from, er, 'Alien,' with a painfully-close second by the enigmatic Space Jockey ofthe same film.
I heartily second the original (note: ORIGINAL ONLY) Alien alien.

First movie I thought of when I read the title was the original "Alien", and I'm sticking to it.<br>Thought it was slimy and wonderfully exciting!<br>

Top five pretty much in order:<br><br>Orginal & Vintage "Frankenstien", as played by Boris Karloff still stands the best for me.<br>"Aliens", here's where the baby alien out of the belly chimes-in, we went stoned gorded, came out fright straight.<br>All the zombies in "Night Of The Living Dead", a forgotten classic of the newer age stuff.<br>The craized chainsaw dude from the 1st "Texas Chainsaw Masicure", no sucking face that night @ the drive-in, lol .<br>And "Preditors l & 2", dugg the second more 'cause there was just so many more 'em, end sceen w/ the gun to cool.<br><br>honarable mention, "Creature From The Black Lagoon" & Bela Lagouse as "Daracula", more classic sc-fi.<br><br>John<br><br><br><br><br>

Max Shreck as Count Orlock..Nosferatu.<br>I always thought the original THING (James Arness) had a scary growl.<br>I'm always interested in these huge Godzilla-like critters. Cloverfield was cool just because of the size of the beast. I think his ticks were morescary..lol.<br>The chest bursting alien was pretty dang scary first time I seen it..lol.<br><strong><br>with a painfully-close second by the enigmatic Space Jockey of the same film.</strong><br><br>I always wondered what that was supposed to represent?<br><br>F.

I thoroughly enjoyed Cloverfield. Great concept, well done.<br><br>The Creeper from Jeepers Creepers (1&2) is my fave. What could be more frightening than a creature that can NOT be killed?
<p>one of the best "creatures" is from the original nosferatu movie. It was released in the the 20's & is a silent movie it was the originalDracula. Its remains were fossilized, telling us how long it'd been there, and we are supposed to assume thatthe creature had, too, been infected by the 'alien,' which also tells the audience alot about the alien (how old the species is, etc.). I really likethe incredibly unique characteristics the Jockey has and its notably freaky appearance and size. Its simple presence in the film really gives depth to analready well-developed story by creating an unexplored and strange universe in a really passive manner ("oh, by the way, there's alot of other weirdstuff out there we're not going to get into").

Alien. Hands down. I was a big fan of H.R. Giger ever since I saw Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" album cover and bought a book of his work. When the film came out, I instantly recognized his design. <br><br> Ryan, I'm surprised you even mentioned the Space Jockey. Most barely take notice. I found some good info online about the Jockey that concerned pre-production notes and conceptual stuff; need to look for it again and will post it if I cantrack it down. I've also got cool set photo of it; will try to wrangle it out and post a scan.<br>What brought me to starting this thread is the fact that Fox (20th Century, not Megan, sorry guys) is currently in talks with Ridley Scott ('Alien'director) to do a prequel to the original film (which could really go anywhere story-wise) and both parties are reportedly very enthusiastic. If Scott isattached to produce or direct, it will be something worth waiting for.
Not an actual creature, but the truck with the faceless driver in "Duel" scared the crap out of me, Jaws on the interstate! And that hideous lookingtruck in Jeepers Creepers...... AAGGGHHH!!!!!! As for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"......<br><br>I saw this in a drive-in theatre in Lubbock Texas in 1975, my girlfriend and I were in my parents 66 Impala and this movie scared me...to...death. We lived ina tiny farm town north of Lubbock and it was about a 35-mile drive back and every shadow on the road convinced me it was my time. Our farmhouse was on a dirtroad about two miles out of town, no lights anywhere, I was petrified and then a tumbleweed blew out in front of me and the high beams hit it........EEEEEEEYYYYAAAAGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! <img src="http://www.ezboard.com/image/posticons/pi_freak.gif">
Alien, little Alien coming out of the stomach, Jaws, then I would agree with Blair Witch.........I watched that alone at about 1am one day. I must say i was"into" it. Not a creature per se but I thought the 59 Version of War of the Worlds airship was the creepiest ever! Way better than H.G. Wells'original long-legged machines that were accurately portrayed in the Tom Cruise version. Those space ships with the snake looking top laser gun weresoooooooooooo cool! Bong..Bong...Bong...Bong........Dadadadadadada! Then those neat "cool" rays that came out of the wingtips! Too much!
