Americans and their cars

When my grandmother moved on down the road a few years ago, she had lived a long, well-travelled life and left behind boxes of photos for my dad, who sharedmany with me over a few nights and several good beers and good story. My grandfather, who I never got to meet, sold and repaired Fords in Los Angeles for a fewdecades, and eventually owned and ran Mortensen Automotive in Compton during the '50s and '60s. Before that, there was great-grandfather Omar and his spectacular Dodge. <img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/aranjaloca/2.jpg" alt="image"> Grandma Veryle atop one of the family's Fords in the CA desert. <img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/aranjaloca/Untitled-5.jpg" alt="image"> Granddad Howard (yes, my grandfather was Indiana Jones) and what looks to be his '37. <img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/aranjaloca/3.jpg" alt="image"> Grandma and another of the '37s <img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/aranjaloca/5.jpg" alt="image"> ...and my old man, in Whittier, '60s, who was something of a Mercury man. <img src="http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e148/aranjaloca/4.jpg" alt="image"> So, there you go. Anybody else who has such stuff, toss it up here, let's have an old family car thread.

I don't have the pics showing my grandfather and grandmother standing next to it scanned in but here is a pic of my grandfather's 54 vette. The localchevy dealer's son didn't like it so my grandfather bought it. He did a lot of drag racing it with it and took it from Arkansas to California manytimes. Alas it was sold when my mom came on the scene a couple years later. The only thing I have left is a few pics and the original 54 license plate fromit Arkansas 000-000. None the less the Corvette gene was placed in the family tree and continues today <img height="330" src="http://hwvette.com/images/54vette.jpg" width="328" alt="image">

cool stuff! My grandfather(pictured above) raced many types of cars in CA and HI, Jag's, Porsche's, but his favorite was Corvettes. I have a bunch ofpix of him flogging various vettes around HI and CA tracks.....

Another '37 !

This was an "old barn find" - literally - and right on my Dad's farm in SW Missouri. <img src="http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif" alt="image"> I had been in and out of that barn maybe 10 times total since my Grandad diedin 1967 and had never noticed the CAR behind the old hay bales. My stepmom Barb rediscovered it 4 years ago, called meup, and I made the 10-hr drive that same weekend to look at her. I remember hearing my Dad talk about it when I was young, but he never said exactly where itwas, and there are so many barns on the property it's possible he didn't even know. I've asked my Dad's sisters to keep their eyes open for old photos with the car in it but haven't seen anything yet. It was registered to myGreat-Grandad on October 15th 1937 and I have the original registration and a signed title transfer (no name of new owner, just my Great-Grandad'ssignature), plus his 1943 driver's license. Talk about your bonuses eh ! 71K original miles and a 1-owner car. 85ci V-8 and way cool hubcaps. I re-live the discovery every time I look at these pics. I'd LOVE to restore her, but there are many things to do between nowand then unfortunately. Enjoy ! My first glimpse of her, camera in hand. I hope no one minds some Canadians and their cars. These were on 35mm slides that my mum had. I had them put onto a CD and turned them into prints. This first picture is of my mum, her sister and my nana with their '58 Chevy Biscayne (a Canadian Chev) pulling a DeVille trailer behind it. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/twinny4/old%20cars/018_018.jpg" alt="image"> Next is the same Chev but this time it's pulling a Shasta. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v83/twinny4/old%20cars/008_008.jpg" alt="image"> My mum's dad standing with his 1962 Pontiac Laurentien. Another Canadian car. I wish I could find the old pictures. I think my sister came over and took them before I moved back in. I'll have to see if I can talk her out of them. I'm really enjoying what has been posted so far. And Steve, I wouldn't even think of restoring that car. Four new tires, a mechanical overhaul to get her runningand maybe some paintless dent removal. Otherwise, she is beautiful just the way she is. I doubt if you could tell after all these years, but wouldn't itbe neat to find out what it was that caused her to stop running?
