Camaro: Is It Real?
Just won this Custom Camaro at ebay and I bid on it thinking it could be a
enamel green. Looks just like the enamel green Custom VW in color and texture
perhaps, has the green under the wheel wells, front fenders looks cut just like the enamel
white Custom Camaro's front wells, tires look consistent with the wear on the car and the chips
look consistent to enamel chips. Here is my question and answers with the seller of this said
Camaro.

Question to seller:

Is this the original green paint? Do you see any remnants of any other coloranywhere on the front and back window and window edges close to the body on the windows, front grill, side pipes, back tail panel and bottom of car on the base? What color do you see in the wheel wells? Don't want to sound picky, this info you give me help me on the bidding for this car.

-trueiceblue

Hi, Ha no your fine i understand the concern..Ok i have lookedover the car i dnt know how many times to make sure..But no there isnt any paint on any other parts of the car ive checked. But the car was bought at anauction.Even were the chips are on the body you can c the metal and no misc. paint , wheels wells are matching paint and i checked the rivets and no signs thecar has been opened. Any other questions please ask. Thanks

03svtcobra09,

Thank you for the response and i will place a bid
before the end of the auction! -

First thing I noticed was the HK wheels on a US car, so if that's a red flag for tampering...
Looked like Spectra in the wheel wells but the pictures are less than stellar.
Timeline is a problem, with green enamel being 73 and camaros 68 only.
Hoping it is indeed real, test car or lunchtime car or something, would be a cool piece.
Keith

-

........look like US wheels to me....but that last pic. of thebase outside the rivets look alittle odd.....
Good Luck with it....at least you get your $ back if not happy.....

-
-
With the timeline there is enamel green on '68 Custom VW's so
why not a test possibly? Same color enamel green as the VW.. Mr. Bruce Pascal has a enamel red with
black roof Custom Camaro so maybe Mattel tested with a non black roof enamel
green version since they already did a black roof enamel version?
Not saying it is,I guess I am only looking at the positive things about it but I am
open to your thoughts on this Redline and appreciate them.
-
it doesnt appear to be enamel green at all, the bugs are alot darker than the camaro, i believe its a repaint, in some pics its alittle darker, in another picit looks flourecent green. good luck with it
-
I thought it did look lighter in the one pic but
it looks like it is in the very bright sun also to give
it a lighter look? It's just that in the indoor pics it
looks very consistent with the original enamel green
shade/color? If you notice in the indoor pics it looks dark and with
the sufficient lighting it should give
a good color indication. I sent the seller another email,

In person indoors is the color of the car like in your outside auction picture or is the car more like the inside picture in color/shade? Thank's!

I think the chances are the color is just like the indoor pics but we will see
and I will post the sellers reply to this last question here in this post.
Anymore feedback?
Raed, everything screams repaint on your Camaro pictures including the wheels.
Paint thickness, paint texture, indoor paint color is not the same as mine,no wear to your repaint etc...
Yours UK made mine looks US made. They look totally different Camaro's (yours & mine) to me. Wear, tires, answers from seller,
pretty much everything looks consistent to me that the one I got could possibly be original enamel green.
Hmmm I been thinking if the color of the possible enamel green Camaro turns out to be dark just like the inside pics with the sellers
response and having the car in hand then why would someone paint a '68 Camaro same color as the '68 enamel green VW (makes no sense) and not paint itwhite enamel or any other enamel color besides dark green? Someone who knows redlines would have painted it white maybe, change or paint to newer tires, etc....Someone who does not know redlines then why would and how would they know
to paint it dark green enamel as the only other enamel color for '68 (VW) besides white? They do not know redlines so they do not know enamel green as theone of the two enamel colors for '68 I would think.
Again, paint wear and original tire wear, everything pretty much looks very consistent on the camaro I won. I hope. Hope can drive a man crazy!
Any other opinions? Thank's for the one's so far!

Why would someone repaint a car and paint the inside of the wheel wells same color lighter spray/brush then the body? Original redlines mostalways have a lighter spray
of color under the wheel wells such as the one that I won. Sound right?

100 percent REPAINT
Eric

I am calling repaint myself. Bad pics, but the wheel wells look a different color to me. Lighter green like specto paint. But i am only workin with 1 good eyerite now SO>>>
-
TrueBlue do you have it in hand yet? You seem to ask for peoples opinions and then argue with them or at least try and make your point with info you dont haveyet. I hope your not hyping it up in your mind and will be in for a let down.I would say repaint but who knows.

I am sorry my friend if you felt bad about showing my cammy which is a custom i made my self!. as for the car in qustion, you have to wait until it is in yourhand and take some good pictures for us. years ago i got a lot of 5 heavy chevys and one was enimal dark green, but when I got the car and posted in the boad Iwas educated and found that the car was heavlt toned green HC. I still have it somewhere and i like it.

just my 2 cents

cheers
raed

Late run US car. Sure looks like a repaint here.

The only known Enamel US Camaros are WE. The only known Enamel HK are red.

Keep taking chances, learning from them and eventually you will come up with something. Just think this one is the expensive learning experience.
-
Does the green look lighter in the wheel wells then on the body on this US '69?

Does anyone know if the green color is lighter inside the wheel wells of the '68 enamel green Custom VW even though it is HK?
-
It's all guesswork until you get the car. Seems simple enough, we can all give our opinion, but it's almost like you don't like what others'opinions are, so why bother?
Looks like a repaint to me....at least you can get your $$ back....
-
I do like the opinions of others that is why I posted the question. I just like to dissect sometimes. Including myself.

The color sure does look different on the bug and camaro that is for sure.
Your going to hate me now and think I am fooling myself but I am wondering if it is possible that the camaro has a different original green enamel on it and
possibly makes it a one of a kind such as that enamel orange custom firebird and the black roof enamel lighter red camaro? May sound like a stupid question butI'm just still learning.!
-
Highly doubtful, when you get it, return it, lesson learned. $$, time to do the homework before you spend the bucks$$
-
It's whatever you want it to be until it arrives in your mailbox...
-
Actually,I have not paid for it yet. What now? Anybody know? What would you do?
Thank's again for the previous replys!
-
Well you bought it, pay for it then return it, dont buy something, search for information on here, get opinions from the board, then screw the seller bysaying it isnt real. thats why i always say do the homework FIRST
-
I think it might be the car that Kurt Russell had in his pocket during the filming of "The Computer Who Wore Tennis Shoes".
-
Your right. It was a live auction so that is why I did not do my homework first by coming to
the RLOL board during.
What is a collector to do? Looks like a catch-22
-
How could I screw the seller on a item that is not real. Isn't it the other way around?
Also why give him the money just to have him turn around and give it back on request?
Just wondering? Should I pay just for his/her listing fee?
Should I pay for the auction and have the money returned to me? Anymore opinions?
-
You bought it and should pay for it until you know its fake. If you thought it was fake before you bid then thats your problem for bidding. You cant say itsfake until its in your hand.
-
i have to agree with those who have posted, pay for it ,then if a repaint-send it back.worst case -you are out the shipping.the old saying goes-if it seems togood to be true.....point is ,follow thru-then act accordindly & like an adult.seller stated you could return it ,if it proves to be a repaint-take them attheir word & go from there.
-
by screwing the seller , is not paying for the item, you bid thinking its some special one of a kind item, obviously its not

what you dont understand is you thought you got something special, came on here asking opinions, well as you can see the concensus is its a repaint.

so if everyone who buys something on ebay then asks for opinons on wether its real or not should take that info from RLOL and not pay is WRONG

-
don't want to come off as calling you out or anything of that nature & not to seem disrespectful . but you have been on this board since 03(checkedyour profile).you aren't new to this ,so i would think if that animal exists - we (cuz ,i have been here a while myself)would have at least heard about ithere. or ,i would bet it would have been seen here .again ,no offense intended !(we all know how computers make any statement seem cold).just my .02

Looks like a catch-22
Same thing happened to me recently.........
A couple of weeks ago I sniped in on a black roof Cougar hoping that it was a real one. After winning I emailed a couple friends on the board & theyconfirmed (or do I say burst my ballon lol) that it was fake. The reason I didn't ask here on the board before bidding, was that I hoping to catch one thatmay have flown "under the wire". Luckily the seller refunded my money & all was well.

-
You owe it to yourself and to the board to pay for it and see for yourself if it is real.
You also owe it to the seller to pay for it. If it isn't real, you will get your money back.
I don't think it would be right not to pay the seller just cause some of us don't think it's real.
If you don't pay, you can get a 'non-paying buyer' claim against you and that is bad. If you pay and return it...no harm done. You also will knowfor yourself if it is legit.

What if it is real?

Personally, I think it is a repaint.
-
IF you're sure it's a repaint. Don't pay the seller. Why waste each others time? Tell him about this board. He can get his final value fee returned by filing a non-paying alert against you. He will need to wait 7 days. After 7 days, he can click the option where you both MUTUALLY agree to NOTcomplete the deal. Ebay will send you an email . You click that yes, you do NOT want to complete the deal. He gets his 2nd fee back and you do NOT get anon-paying strike.
He can relist. (You can never get your initial listing fee back.)
Email the guy and with his ZERO feedback , tell him to relist the car as a repaint. That car has repaint written all over. I'm surprised that it went formore than 10-15 dollars. It looks like they used testors paint.. Anyway, sometimes, bidders do not see things as they really are.

maribell

My 2¢. The two base shots showing the rivets look like before and after shots. The rivets do not look the same to me in those two pictures. The first"flash" shot shows what appear to be standard US flat head rivets, the second shot shows what I think may be dome-headed rivets (rerpos). I may bewrong, but that's what I noticed.

I dont know much about rivets but I know flash and the indoor 1 is that way because of the flash (at least in my opinion). The flash highlights the higher partof the base and the sides that slope away or arent in the flash area are darker. This is just what I think.
