The last half dozen times someone died and someone else here made a post about it,
i.e. the typical "R.I.P. so-an-so", you made the comment that we're all here like
RLOL vultures or something watching the obituary columns for something to post.
Kennedy's been dead for 3 days and no one has made a post about it yet...until you just did!

I'm guessing it's because of what you predicted in your opening line;
it's likely to become political - after all, Kennedy was known as the "Liberal Lion",
and on the far-left, even though he was one of the few senators who actually knew the art of compromise.
Love him or hate him, he loved his country and worked hard for what he believed in.
He also made more of a lasting impact (for better or for worse, whatever your take on it is)
on American politics than most of the Presidents who served during his near half-century in the Senate.

So back to your question: Why is he almost in the ground, so soon after dying,
and Michael Jackson isn't - so LONG after dying?
In a nutshell, Kennedy's death was expected; anticipated. Brain cancer.
Michael Jackson's death was a shock (of sorts), largely unexpected and on top of that....it could be milked.
I doubt many people on either side of the political aisle would tolerate a circus lasting half this long
for Ted Kennedy's postumus "life celebration".

PS - I for one think Kennedy's wake and funeral have been tasteful and poignment.
Greg

PPS - More foot contests require your vote and immediate attention, Dave!

Greg

I was actually being VERY factious Greg, but thanks for the response anyway!!!!

Back TO FEET!!!

Dave
Because Mikes family loves him so much they want to have all the time they can have with him before they bury his body...or at least that's what HarveyLevin says...
with all of jacksons plastic surgery you could keep him on ice for years and he'll still look the same. after all plastic does not decay like flesh does
LOL!!! So what's left, the plastic and everything else is gone??? Kinda like Lennon???? Hmmmmm.......... MORE ticket possibilities for Joe Jackson!!
How long did it take to get James Brown buried?
James Brown is BURIED?????????? I thought they had him laid out at one of those "eternal flames"!!!
It took months to bury James Brown. But at least , the family was fighting to put him in a zoo-like atmosphere and charge admission like in the M. Jacksoncase . I thought that they were going to bury Michael on Aug.31.. Anyway, it's ridiculous.

maribell
I thought Teddy's service today was exceptional. I don't know,as a child, how one can eulogize their own father without being an emotional mess...thattakes great strength.

Anyone know why Teddy Jr is not in public service. He struck me as a much better public and smoother speaker than brother and Sen Patrick, who came across assomewhat quirky and overtly political ( for a funeral service).
For Jr,the look, the smoothness, the message, were definitive Kennedy..and Yes,it was his father's funeral, but this might be his coming out.
The common thread of "never give up/you CAN do it" really struck a cord with me.

The family stories and history are triumphant/tragic,and just plain fascinating. Such an American Dynasty.

To the man, yes,he's admitidly had his flaws, but what an American icon, and what a run.

As for the thread subject..As long as we stay non partisan...

F.
WOW!!!!!! Is this legal from a MOD????????? I think you should give yourself a 30-day suspension!!! ............
Don't tempt me Dave...

As for the thread subject..As long as we stay non partisan...

I could really give a rats a$$ about Ted or if he just died.
Just couldn't get behind Ted because of the lies and BS about Chappaquiddick. Everyone knows that young girl was dead before he drove into the water but hewas never charged because he was a Kennedy...

That 'accident' was no accident...

Lotsa people did show up for the service though...I'll bet none of them were related to Mary Jo Kopechne

Everyone knows that young girl was dead before he drove into the water but he was never charged because he was a Kennedy...
I've heard otherwise. I heard she died of asphyxiation because she was trapped and found an air pocket in the submerged car, and used up allthe oxygen from it until passing out...
Either way, he did run (swim) from the scene of a crime, and allegedly paid the family $100,000 hush money. It's on record.

Money, power, and fame...

What does this have to do with the original question?? Why do the negative nannies like this always bring it down???? Did I bring up some crap thread aboutNixon and Watergate?? Nope, just a simple question.
Back to the original question, I think Greg summed it up nicely and accurately. I would add that with Jackson, there is the specter of foul play and they stillmay need the body as "evidence".
The "milking it" for publicity part is pretty huge, though.
With Kennedy, I can't say anything else without prompting the political angles, and I don't want to suspend myself, so we'll leave it at that.
Dave is now the funniest member here! Commenting about "negative nannies", PRICELESS!Those same negative nannies wanting to bring down a thread, even morePRICELESS
Welcome to our world...

Back to burials, Greg's points are all valid points.
It's abnormal to still have the body above ground at this point with Michael Jackson. Has anyone thought that maybe he had some weird request to preservehis body, so when future medicine will allow cloning or "bringing back to life" techniques become commonplace, that he might have already put thefunds aside for such a scenario? Wouldn't surprise me a bit...
I don't think MJ would have done the Disney thing, after the autopsy and all there probably isn't muchleft, the cloning thing though? I could see that and Joe would have another side show to put in the circus!
Back to the question...like I said previously, Harvey Levin spoke to some family members of mike and they said exactly what I posted earlier.
They want to spend as much time as possible with mike.

You all know that TMZ has the latest and greatest news stories before anyone!

Is name calling still allowed?

I very much agree...
Dave, I believe that a second autopsy can be requested to confirm the results of the first. In most cases, they would likely get on with the burial, but with ahigh profile case like this, exhuming the body for additional evidence gathering would add to the circus. The media would love that, of course, but thecoroner's office and LAPD would not.

I am not a lawyer, I only play one on a toy car message board. Hopefully someone who really knows can shed some light on this.
