Lets talk Cheeseburgers
I have seen on Yahoo that 5 Guys burgers are the best and they go up against Mc D's,BK and Wendy's come on what kind of competition is that ?? I think just out west is a chain called Fat Burger,i have never seen any other Co challenge the Fat Burger. If you tried a Double Fat with everything you would be eating the best Burger on the planet. I have heard how great those eastern burgers ( Newcastle ) things are but nobody can make a Burger like Fat Burger.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Went to Amarillo, Texas and had a buffalo burger that was great! And fat burger couldn't touch it. But in long beach, ca there's a joint called big mikes and they offer a big mikes burger, 13 ounces of meat cooked to order, with a hot link on top, comes with fries and a coke for just a little over $6.00 fat burger can't touch it

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
I think the Eastern Burger your talking about is Whitecastle which is good for what it is but does not even come close to being in the "Best Burger Catagory". We have a Fat Burger here in Virginia, tasted pretty good, but never went back after the first time. I think the fries were better than the burger. I honestly think 5 Guys has the best one hands down..... besides the ones I make in my backyard!!!!!!:chef::chef::tt2:

Ah, the return of a favorite subject. Gotta recommend as favorite The Vortex in Atlanta.

A close second is Phil's Grill (no relation) in New Orleans. Very cool, you design your own burger by checking boxes on a paper menu.

Among chains, I was enthused about Backyard Burgers but ultimately disappointed. They tried to grow too fast and stumbled, at least locally. At least they led this Angus theme that's so popular right now. For quality, consistency and price, I really like the "Six Dollar Burger" ($4.25) at Hardee's, no sides necessary to be a fully satisfying meal. On my last stop at a Burger King I noticed a couple of burgers reaching into the $7+ range! Haven't tested that yet, curious though. Five Guys is excellent but only an occasional treat. I'd like to try In-N-Out Burger and Fatburger when I have a chance to head out west, I've heard nothing but good things.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
I like 5 Guys and In-N-Out Burgers about the same.
We have a couple of local joints (Austin,Tx) called Mighyt Fine (a little pricey) and Dan's which are good.
I guess if I had to make a choice it would be IN-N-OUT.
Now I'm hungry:p

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
I'm an In-N-Out fan. I like the idea of fresh. I've never been to a Fatburger even though there's one up the streep from my shop. I just never think of it come lunch time. I'll have to give them a try.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
On the Eastcoast Whitecastle has good burgers (dbl cheeseburger) if youre comparing them to Burger King and the other fastfood chains.
If youre talking about the best freshmade burgers 5 Guys wins hands down.

Man o man Fat Burger looks to me like a road sign pointing straight to Satan's gate.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers

in Socal gotta put tommys in the mix

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Don't forget Bob's Big Boy an American classic...I like Tommys as well. "If you don't see the shack, take it back". The Bison burgers are great too. I never liked the texture of Fatburgers meat. They always seemed soft and mushie to me. For a daily burger, day in and day out, In-N-Out has them all beat in my opinion.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
If any of you guys ever happen to be in Daytona Beach, there's a little hole in the wall called the Brickyard on International Speedway Blvd. All the race crowd hangs out there during race weeks, and hands down best cheeseburger I have ever had...unbelievable

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Fuddrucker's makes a better Burger than 5 Guy's. I've got to say Wendy's is better than 5 Guy's also. Now when it comes to ordering a LARGE FRIES! No beats 5 guy's for the amout you get!
-
Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Wendy's ain't bad but when I go I ask for the good neighbors discount it saves me twenty percent off of the cost, in-n-outs fries are better than their burgers, but you have to make it a double to get enough meat on the burger, my son likes the 4x4 that they don't advertise.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Back in the 80's, When I was a truck driver, one day I was in a big hurry, and I was hungry. I saw a "Fat Burger" joint and stopped. I ordered a double fat chili cheese burger to go, and hit the road, trying to eat and drive the truck at the same time, what a disaster, I ended up with chili on my hands, shirt, chin, steering wheel, and shifter..... what a mess, and the" two" napkins they put in the bag, where just about enough to clean my mustache.
As far as the best burger I have ever had, there is a place in Ben Loman calif, called the Brewery, the chef custom grinds the finest grade of beef, the patties are 1/3 lb, of the best tasting ground beef in the world, he bakes his own buns, and then he tops it off with carmelized onions and gorgenzola cheese.
Damn I wish it wasn't 800 miles away, I'm ready for a "Loman Burger" right now.....
If you have never had an Angus Burger from Mac Donalds, you might be surprised how good they are....IMO the best fast food burger there is. The Carls Jr. $6 burger is also very good....

Oh Yes Tommys has got to be one of the best!! I just love that #1 with a chilli cheese fries...

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
I am a 5 Guys fan also. Can't beat the fresh cut frys!! A little pricy a triple with bacon, small fry and drink will set you back about $10.50...but well worth it!! Fuddruckers comes in a close second!!

I live about 1/2 a mile from Ben Lomond in Felton, and I have never heard of the Brewery. You can bet I'm going to look though. Hope its still there.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
When in South Minneapolis try Matt's Bar home of the Jucy Lucy... Fantastic Cheeseburger, stopped in there this summer fell in love with the place (like going back in time to the 60's).
-
Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
I like 5 Guys, but prefer FAT BURGER above all else... Smashburger is up and coming and pretty good as well..
-
Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Really like 5 guys and Wendys but here in the northeast RED ROBIN is king here along with great extras. Love Onion rings better than fries.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
'Round these parts we have a place called "Jackson Hole Wyoming" They rrock & the never ending pickles bowl they give you while you are waiting are addicting!!
Sid you're a local guy I know you had to had a Jackson Hole burger
-
Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Someone overnight me a in & out burger:biggrin: Never had one. Here we have Fatburger but never tried one. Not much of a chain guy.Do like the burgers at this lttle micro brew joint called the Cornerstone. 8%+ brews may cloud my judgement though.:cursing:
-
Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
If you are ever in San Diego, head west to Hodad's in Ocean Beach. There's always a long line but well worth it. A cheeseburger, chocolate shake and the onion rings are highly recommended!
Dave.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
I like 5 Guys better than Fatburger....but I wouldn't turn either of them down!
Never been to to this place but I've seen plenty about it on the news. Not sure if the burgers are any good or if it's just a gimmick. Maybe a board member from arizona can fill us in?

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
"Over 350 lbs. eat for free" Yikes, what a mixed message.
Not quite off topic. Y'all remember back when the old chains were actually good? When it really was, "It takes two hands to handle a Whopper 'cause the burgers are bigger at Burger King"? What happened? Besides the obvious redline buying spree, my use of the time machine will involve stops at classic early fast food joints for flavor tests.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Nothing beats a homemade burger done to a juicy turn on our Holland grill :chef:. Diced onion, worcheshire sauce and garlic powder are my not-so-secret ingredients. However, one of my guilty pleasures is the $1.25 double cheesburger at Burger King. They'll add lettuce, tomato and extra pickle for free and you can't beat the price. Stop laughing!

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
If you're looking for a good burger, you have to go to Millers bar in Dearborn MI. A couple years ago they rated in the top 100 (I believe in the 60's) for best burger in the country. When the local news announced it's top 100 ranking you couldn't get a table in there for almost a month. By far one of the best burgers I have ever eaten.

Re: Lets talk Cheeseburgers
Fat Burger packed up and left the only one I went to in Cleveland.
In rode Five Guys and I like them good enough. Burger Nuts in Willoughby is a Five Guys mimic but just as good.
I've had Tommy's and In n Out and liked Tommy's better.
