Test drove a SS Camaro, and a 2011 Mustang yesterday.. wow, that Mustang blows the Camaro's doors off. I wish they would have changed the body on the Mustang a bit, it still looks so plain!

I haven't driven one, but from what I've been reading, the Mustang finally has the motor that it needs. I still think they look decent with the updated nose, but not as stand-out as the Camaro (probably because that's only been on the street for what...less than a year?)
Tom,
It must be a personal choice, because in the stats the Camaro wins.
And when the Z/28 comes out it's gonna be an even bigger beast...............
If going mustang, gotta do the GT500KR:drool:
Test drove one four months ago and loved it. I still regret buying the fusion over the 5.0 but the fusion is nice to.
I can't wait for the new BOSS 302 remake they're doing, although I can't afford one.

I've seen stats that go both ways, some favor Mustang, some favor Camaro.... and I've watched a lot of youtube video's, and havent seen the Camaro win once.. When the Z/28 comes out, you are correct, it will be a bigger beast.. as is the GT500 (I think the Z/28 will beat the GT500 however). I personally am a Chevy fan, and was quite schocked that the Mustang was as quick as it was. My brother in law has a SS Camaro, and I drive it quite a bit, I honestly thought it would be quicker than it is, my 2003 M3 is a tad quicker than his Camaro when we race head to head. The Camaro is 1 awesome looking car, but is a pain to drive, it's bulky, and blindspots everywhere...which is the only reason I decided to test drive the Mustang in the first place. It is easy to drive, feels light and nimble, and handles better than the Camaro, but I don't know that I can get over the looks of it, haha
Guys I don't mean to hijack the thread, but the awful thing is that the Haundi Genesis beats both hands down.

Are you being serious? The Genesis? No way.. best it pulled in a road test was 0-60 in 5.4 seconds.. where as the Camaro and Mustang are both below 5..

Yes. I believe Car and Driver tested the Mustang, the Nissan 370z and the Genesis. The Mustang 2011 came in last place the Genesis came in second and of course the Nissan came in first place. The Test was based on an overall bases, not just take off speed= 0-60. The Genesis came in first place against the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger. I'm a Dodge person so I was very disappointed with the outcome.

If that's what you want, pick up that new Cadillac CTS-V. 0-60 under 4sec, straight from the showroom floor!

Sorry, not looking to hijack either, but if you want some gittyup.....

Thats the exact car I want.. unfortunately it's way outta my price range!!
Have not driven the 2011 Mustang yet. I drove the 2010 Stang, Challenger (RT and SRT8), and SS Camaro. I ended up deciding on the SS. The SRT8 was the only other real contender in my mind but it cost about 10K more than the SS. The 2011 Mustang seems like a great car but costs almost 3K more than a comprably equipped SS. It seems as if is still a good value though and a very sweet car. As far as the Genesis vs Camaro vs 370Z in Car & Driver you left out the rather significant fact that it was a V6 Camaro, not an SS. Running an SS vs a Genesis or 370z is like swatting a fly with a shotgun. No contest.
They used the comparable lower end on all the cars. They did not use the more powerful Genesis either. This would have been like going against the Mustang Cobra 500, or like the Camaro SS. They were trying to make it an even playing field. However the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger or the Genesis
could not keep up with stabilization of the Nissan 370z. None had the stability or the lateral G force strength as the Nissan 370z. If given the choice
of any, not by cost or worth... I would take the Nissan 370z. The car out performs many of the costly BMW's, Audi's, Mercedes and other high end cars.
Camaro's < Mustang's = end of story :D However if someone dropped cash into my lap told me to go buy a new car I'd go buy a Nissan GTR and wax new Mustangs and Camaros all day long...

Yes, Nissan GTRs flat rock. Wish i could afford one.
As far as the Mustang/Camaro hype goes.........I'll take my hemi Challenger anyday over either one. Be real. Who really drives (or is capable of) 150 mph . I'll take the good looks and bigger car.
A Hundai is now & will ALWAYS be a Hundai. End of story.
Tom I hear ya on the Caddy V Coupe & Hey it's packng the ZR1 motor for about 40G's less.............

Yes... you are correct, but It will NOW beat for the sake of this thread the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger.
I do not drive a Hundai, but it is appalling that a non muscle car can out perform the above three cars.
My question is why buy new ? For a Warranty ? You can buy a 2 to 10 year old car someone has hopped up correctly for a ton less than a new car.Maybe this is me but my Boss ran out and bought a new First Year 09 ? SRT8 that gets the pants kicked off of it by his stock 71 Challenger with all that new technology.I bought a used yes used 99 Corvette FRC with a hopped up 427 in it that will kill both by bus lengths and then some for $13K which is about a 3rd of what the SRT8 cost.A friend of mine just bought a 2011 GT500KR and what a dissapointment for the $$.He could have bought an 03 or 04 Cobra for a third of the Dollars and had just as much fun.Yup no warranty but the $30 plus thousand will go a long way in repairs. We went down to the local strip a month ago and I laughed at them both as they got beat up on by Honda's and Nissan's as these cars in stock form are not that fast. The New GTR will kill a lot but for the money much better cars can be had.
If you want to get into used cars I'd take me a TT Supra from 99 if you please lol. The Supra's 2JZ motor is by far the best 6 cylinder ever made. Check out this video of someone putting the motor in a Camaro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZqtJTlXON8 If someone laid cash in my lap and told me to go buy whatever car I wanted on of the first cars that I would look at would be a Supra. With the right mods nothing can touch one.

As I tell all the guys we go down to the track with...
There is always someone faster ! Usually it comes in a pacakge you do not expect.Last time we were at the track there was a late 80's Z Camaro whick the anouncer called a "Mullet Machine".In all my time at the tracks around here I have seen a ton of these and most to all were cobbled up cars that were left for dead somewhere. When the car came to the burnout box my opinion on these cars changed.

Again I was reminded There is always an exception to the rule as well.I had to get a closer look at it after watching that. What I saw was one of the Best Built Drag Cars I have ever seen. The details on this car were shocking as it was a near perfect execution on a platform I would have never given a second look.

The guy who owned it was a very nice guy.540 cubes with a Procharger. The car laid down 1300 plus with more to go.
Sorry for the thread Hijack Tom !

Ah, but with the right mods, you can do that to anything.................
True very true and having the money never hurts. I was just trying to say that the supra is a very easy car to make insane horsepower out of as the way it's built gives it the perfect platform. The 2JZ block comes from the factory with forged internals so you can slap almost anything on it and it can handle it. The car is already rwd which can't be said for too many imports and let's not forget the single or twin turbo option. Toyota was said to be bringing the Supra back pretty soon but only time will tell...
I've never purchased a new car in my life..I wait for somebody to drive the depreciation off of them. My friend works at the lot that had just got an SS on trade in, so I went to play with it.. then he told me to try out the 2011 Mustang as I'd be surprised at it.. and I was. I test drove a GTR at the same lot a few weeks earlier, WOWOWOW.. had 15k miles, I could have got it for $60k..which is way out of my budget.,.but it was fun to drive for a bit.
Ultimately, I think I want the new CTS-V , but will wait until the price comes down into something within my budget...so likely a few years out.. which is what I did with my current car, I waited until it was 4 years old to buy it...
I see the point, brand new vs used.. I like some of the luxuries of newer cars over the older cars, and really want a 4 door, as my current 2-door sits in the garage most of the time because it's too small to haul people! I have shopped around some 03 or 04 Cobras, and almost bought one.. but held off because it is a 2 door..

Toyota is not going down the tubes, it's almost completely repaired it's reputation and is on the upswing now.

Says who? I hate foreign cars but can tell you that Hundai is beating the crap out of Toyota right now........
I know speed or at least bragging rights on how fast your car goes if you have the Balls to drive it 170 MPH so is speed a deciding factor in purchasing a car ?? If the Mustang is faster but you like the Camaro a little better are you going to buy the whole car or just the motor ?? I am too old to care about bragging rights just give me a Porsche and i will be good until death.

I'll second that!!
Kelly - how you been! I've been over 150MPH on a motorcycle, so have no issues with going 170 in a car...
as for speed vs car vs whatever, Im a whole package kind of guy.. I don't buy a car because of speed only.. there are plenty of cars faster than my current car, but I like the overall look of it, along with the speed it does have. And if I end up in a CTS-V it will be because I like a car that goes fast, as well as can carry 4 people comfortably, and looks good..

Doing good Tom,don't get caught going 150 or you won't have a car lol. My neighbor has a V and he loves it except the seats,he once told me that when he drives it to Cali 5 hours away he has to stop because the seats are like rock and his Ass hurts lol, nothing like my Escalade seats thats for sure or your M3 seats.
BTW you can have the 55 Panel,i assume you still have it and good luck with the car hunt.
I've still got the '55 , if it sells, I'll get the money to you...
My M seats are a bit rock like, so I understand that.. but my motorcycle seat is for sure the most uncomfortable thing I've ever sat on in my life!!
