Gone Fishin' ...
I am curious if we have any fisher-people in the house.I certainly enjoy it.I was there the day my son cought his first fish.Lets talk about the one that got away and the one that didnt.
I know we have at least one board member who likes to fish because he mailed me this hand crafted lure.

Oh boy...I fish big time! Freshwater...Lake Erie, Niagara River in my back yard...Walleye and SMB's are the species of choice but I'll take a day on the lake over anything...pic of my daughter and a 8lb eye, and this summer with my son's first LMB Lunker!

Re: Gone Fishin' ...
Eric i think if you hold the lure up to a light, and then turn the light off you may have a surprise. Check out those spectaflame blue scales, looking like a blue enamel j car.

Jim,
I was fortunate to spend every summer from '73-'90 in Iola, WI, so before I had a driving license we had fishing license. So when your 10 with sibling 7 & 4 all we did was fish, fish, fish, eat pizza's and cheeseburgers...fish some more, then fish again. Lotta fishing...anyhow found this pic of my kid bro and his 1st ever Northern out of Wisconsin! I think this was Silver Lake in Scandanavia...I try to hit it once a week up here to keep my sanity. Where did u fish out of on Lake Erie?

Re: Gone Fishin' ...
That is too much.....bobber fishing for northerns!lol Usually them damn things just hit the bobbers and not the bait! Back when I was younger we launched down by Monroe (Bolles Harbor).....not to far from the ohio border. Sometime we worked up into the Detroit river, but for the most part we stayed in the big lake. We usually trekked out to the shipping channel and worked that area for eyes.....I remember pulling up jumbo perch 2 at a time out there as well. Back in the day, now I just look out at the lake and then go back inside to work on the house. Pretty sad when I never put my fishing boat in the water last year, and I only took the pontoon out maybe a dozen times all summer. The time will come.........

Re: Gone Fishin' ...
Ok today i 2nd and on some 3rd coated 20 lures in primer, i had to let the linseed oil dry real well before i did that, i noticed 3 need a little touch up carving, i think i'll finishthese in tropical frog or bird colors, these should be investment grade fishable lures, whatever your pleasure, just give me a little time as these have to be right before i send them out after i put the colors on, they'll need to be coated for the marine environment, so it may be a week or so but i promise it'll be worth the wait.

Hey Robert,
Perhaps share a few more of your lure crafting skills.
The more fishin' stories and pictures the better.

Re: Gone Fishin' ...
Id love to start fishing, especially now that I live in central PA. When I lived down south, all I heard about was largemouth. Up here its smallmouth, muskie, and walleye.
-
Re: Gone Fishin' ...
I kinda like largemouth, though the others are nice also, you made the list so i'll get you info later.
Ok eric, since you asked, a little about me, i am atleast a fouth generation painter, my great grandfather was the forman for all of the finish woodwork on the titanic, my grandfather, amoung other things was a forman in aden at a refinery with 150 men under him, my dad retired as a financial secretary for the union, he also painted show cars in the seventies (mainly for free) and appeared in several magazines (the cars anyway) i achieved the title of master journeyman painter, i left the union after 8 years to work for the city, not a bad move and have been there for 18 years at the end of the month. I have to give credit to God because i couldnt do anything without Him. I have won awards for my carving.
Onto the lures originally i started off with the intention of exactly duplicating antique lures, i did a lot of research and even these lures are made that way, except i use rattle cans. Each lure is hand carved, this batch took 1/2 hour of carving for each lure, then they are sanded, i then soak for a min of 30 minutes in linsead oil to protect the wood for an aqua environ, each lure is sanded, primed at least twice, then they are spayed white, even if i pInt them black, several different colors get used, details added, then sealed again, then hooks are applied. These lures are my own design, based on old lures, if you dont catch fish with them either you cant fish or there aint no fish where you are at.
These lures are smaller than i like to make but they are just as effective, you wont find them in stores, and if you lose one you'll miss it.
I am sorry that at this time i cant post pictures, i havent figured out how to do it on the ipad, sorry

Re: Gone Fishin' ...
Anyway i also started two years ago to give or trade away roaks at the convention in LA, ca under the name Bobby Brazil, 2010 cars each had some form of body work done to it, making lures is more fun trust me

Re: Gone Fishin' ...
Ok lets see the stand ups, and i'll decide if  your worthy of a lure, i'd ask my friend eric, but he's a softy, so exactly how many pounds was that bass?
-
Re: Gone Fishin' ...
That was my first good fish while learning and came from tuckertown lake in 1992 and if i remember right it was 6 or 6 1/2 pounds .. i only fished for 4 years.

Two day tournament on 2 diffrent lakes made the club classic which payed out $1500 for 1st place which was two man teams per boat and 16 hours of hard fishing.. also the last tournament i ever fished as i quit fishing after..

Me as a young guy maybe 25 then (soon to be 44) .. and that big fish was 6+ pounds from Lake Lucas but me being 6' tall makes it look small.

Me and my fishing Buddy (1993) and the one i learned from as he started in the early 70's .. but sadly he passed away in Jan 1997.. 3 months after that classic tournament and one reason i quit fishing..
