SCORES 7/27-7/30 VIDEO GAME LOVERS! Olde school...
First, let me say that the sales I hit this week have been depressing. Why? Because most of them were the home of someone I knew, who I went to school with, or about my age, and like me, will be moving on. We have hit that age where we start to let go of things and stuff gets donated, yard saled, and thrown out (See "Toy Story 3").
First, I hit an estate sale on Wednesday...I haven't been to this house in a few years and I thought I recognized it, but seeing names written on some of the stuff I bought solidified my hypothesis on the matter. But my friend that used to live there went to serve his country in the Marines and his parents wanted to move. I ended up buying the remains of his old video game collection-mainly stuff he didn't want I suppose. I can tell they already went through everything and got what they wanted out of the house.
None of the consoles are functional as-is due to all missing one or all of the cords. We were able to test the PS1 console (I had two consoles already I can work with) and games, PS2 games, the NES (having issues, just dirty I think), and the Gamecube game. I really want to find cords for the SNES as some of the games are really rare and the suspense is KILLING ME! But that wasn't all I scored. I bought this Dr. Pepper sign from a 1960s vending machine, the Carnival Checkers set crica 1951 (missing two green marbles), and a box of 1971 Christmas ornaments. All this games and all for $30.

I tried to find a yard sale the next day, but mapquest didn't warn me that the road would be closed. So, instead of finding a detour, I just quit. It was the only sale in town that day. I aimed to find a score that morning, so I hit the antiques store as they just opened up. I scored these...the COX .049 Sandblaster project car made my day!

Yesterday, I went to a sale, not much, but I did run into my friends there who just happened to be garage saleing too. They told me about the sale from yesterday I missed. They told me they had a vintage Concord bicycle for $15, but they said it was rough. The lady running it said not too many people have been by since the road closed-CHA CHING!
I get there and find her son is 23 and her daughter was 19 and went to school not too far away. Once again....my age, and it was depressing...all the items at this sale made me feel "O-L-D"! I remembered all of them. The mega score was NOT the Concord, but a Sprite BMX bicycle from the late 80s/ealry 90s. You always find Coca-Cola or Pepsi-NEVER Sprite! I got it for $15. The SEGA Game Gear for $5, and a box of misc. toys for $2.

Today, I made a scrap run to help my mom out as well as clean house. I find these beauties awaiting the crusher!
Coaster brake Raleigh made in Nottingham, England. The Sturmey-Archer hub is dated April of 1974.

As I was about to dig that out, I saw this VERY RARE Western Flyer. This '92 model is rare because at that time, Western Auto was dying, and so was the Western Flyer name. Not many were made, not many survive and to think this one about got crushed! :!:

The Raleigh will be for sale as parts or whole, I did not decide yet. The Western Flyer is staying. This yard seems to have an appreciation for vintage iron. The yard owner refuses to scrap a rare 1965 International R190-been sitting for a couple of years now! As I brought this Raleigh up to the desk, one of the employees started talking about all the nice bikes he keeps pulling out of scrap loads. He salvaged a Raleigh Sprite yesterday.

That game stuff is high tech at my house. I had that Cox sand Buggy as a kid.
Re: SCORES 7/27-7/30 VIDEO GAME LOVERS! Olde school...
I love The NES system. Fun Stuff Baby!!
Re: SCORES 7/27-7/30 VIDEO GAME LOVERS! Olde school...
Sweet stuff! Love the games, especially Battlefront 2. That is arguably one of the best third person shooters for the PS2. So many good memories gaming with my friends. That SNES is sweet too. Do you have a Game Craze near you? Where I am, they have a ton of games and accesories for PS, SNES, Game Cube, etc. All real cheap too. Might be able to look and see if they have the cables you need if there isn't one around you.

I don't do Xbox or Xbox 360, there are a couple of things in here for it. I'm taking those and all the PC games up to Game Stop and I'll see what store credit I'll get (if any, LMAO!). I'm not going to kill my computer testing all those PC games. But they all are intact, clean, should play. I did some research, and the missing AV cable for the SNES was also used on the N64 and the Game Cube. So I'll be looking for that tomorrow, and the AC adapter looks pretty standard, so I'll check Radio Shack as well. I need some electronic contact cleaner anyway, my dad and I both do as a matter of fact.
I found that the blinking red light on the NES was caused by tons of dust, dirt, and a filthy 72-pin connector which apparently is the source of 99% of NES problems. I got it working pretty good and all the cartridges, too. Thanks to some help from a youtube video! Predator is pretty addicting, but also difficult!
As I was putting the sign away, I remembered somebody I bought bicycle parts from also does vending machine restorations. I'm awaiting his reply, he is interested.
I have not decided yet if I want to keep the Sprite BMX or sell it. Where will I put it when my '61 Monark Spartan and '66 Huffy Silver Jet are done? Then again, I may NEVER find another.
Re: SCORES 7/27-7/30 VIDEO GAME LOVERS! Olde school...
Those Gamming stores usually have some of that old NES stuff. I got a couple of those systems...one hooked up for the kids to play...and one down the basement. I don't even know if the other one works. Still love to play the older games. Too many of the newer games are just too complicated....
Nice finds on everything...love the little Sand Rail

Re: SCORES 7/27-7/30 VIDEO GAME LOVERS! Olde school...
Killer Cox Sandblaster. You have got to love any toy that runs on flamible liquids! I got a few of these for my boys and a couple of the planes. I liked the planes and the Shrike car the best because you could get burned or get a finger choped off. Moms hated these! On a rainy day I could whip any kid on our block at stadium checkers... until we lost half of the marbles. Thanks for posting. Brendan
Re: SCORES 7/27-7/30 VIDEO GAME LOVERS! Olde school...
No problem! I love posting my finds. The Checkers game looks fun! Maybe I need to learn how to play? If I can dig through the junk drawer and find two little green marbles, I'm in the game!
Just thought I would update the video games. The SNES is up and running! Everything works! Game Stop had apparently quit buying Game Boy stuff, I'm NOT happy, because now, should I want to add to my selection I now have to go to eBay. They also don't buy or sell used PC games. I had called that morning and asked if they had a Game Cube AV cable and they said they had a universal, but for $12.99. So I went on eBay bought one for $5.25 shipped, and an original too! I was able to get rid of all the Xbox 360 stuff there, what little I had. I looked around, thinking of either the cash or the store credit and I find and AV cable for a Game Cube-ON THE PEGS! Turns out, as soon as I hanged up the phone, some kid came in with a busted Game Cube and they parted it out (MURPHY'S LAW CLEARLY STATES!). So, since I needed this thing, like now, I went and got it. So for one Xbox PowerPak battery, a Naruto game, and a stray manual, I got a much needed AV cable and a whooping $.17 on card. The positive side is, I now have an AV for the SNES and Game Cube. What is shocking is, this ORIGINAL cable cost $4.99-while a cheap 3rd party cable cost $12.99. What's wrong with this? LOL! I was on the fence to either buy an original AC adaptor, or go with my dad to the RC shop and get a reproduction at a used game store nearby. Well, I needed to test this system, I already had somebody interested in a couple games, so I went for the re pop. Sure, it might have affected the value a little bit, but its all made up considering I have Super Mario RPG and DK Country 3.
The Game Cube was originally going to be sold as parts/repair/not tested. But, I got an AV Cable coming, a game, it has a wireless receiver, its worth taking a gamble. If it works, I can probably get $30 to $50 out of it. All I need is a power cord and a controller for the receiver.
I got one of the Game Gears to fire up, in all its battery eating glory! One is still on my operating table as I figure out how to remove the odd shaped screw on the back.
The Genesis 3 is just really cheap, and in finding the controllers for it, I'm already in what its worth by the time I figure in fees and such. It was a bargain shelf game in 1997 and apparently still is. What can ya say? SEGA had the Saturn then and who wanted a Genesis? Yes, you see less of these than the others, but it is much more stripped down than the previous Genesis systems. I might get a power cord for it. Maybe.
Sadly, the Playstation and the Dreamcast are going to be the only ones probably not getting any TLC. I got the Dreamcast to turn on with a Playstation cord. But honestly, I'd have more into it than it is worth right now. It needs EVERYTHING. The Playstation is still really common, but I have too other complete consoles and a nice, small collection of games, so I'll put it in among it's brothers and sell it that way.

The Game Cube's power cord came in and it works good! Now I need to find a Wavebird and I'm good!
