I believe that 5.7 liter (350 cubic inch LT1) only came in the 9C1 packaged cars. Police cars, taxis etc. Maybe station wagons as well. The engine also came inthe Impala SS. A car which has been collectible since it was new. Unfortunately the SS only comes in two or three colors.Black, burgundy and perhaps darkgray.---mike

I was thinking the same thing.
Why would you want the caprice if you could get the same car with an SS Impala badge?

Department of Motor Vehicles indicates that 23% of traffic accidents are alcohol related. This means that the remaining 77% are caused by people who drink coffee and other crap like that.

You can indeed now get extremely low mile Impala S.S. for $25K. 96 being the best year as they had the floor shift. Perhaps otwheels wants a Caprice for areason. The LT-1's only came in the 94-96's.

Check out www.impalassforum.com. There is always nice stuff for sale there. (Caprice, Impala or wagons) I used to have a 94 wagon with the LT-1 and used topost there alot. They are extremely nice driving cars.

I still get a hankering for another.

Because not only are LT1 equipped police cars very tough looking rides, but also they are very inexpensive compared to the SS Impalas.Buy the SSgrille for about one hundred dollars, get a couple of SS emblems and a set of factory SS alloy wheels, slap them on your silver or white 9C1 ex police Capriceand voila---one very nice car. They handle like crazy too. Big time bang for the buck.---mike

    Hi all,
the reasons I am looking for a caprice and not an Impala are as follows: we live in the UK with bad weather and an Impala only comes in colors that look reallydirty really quickly. Silver or lighter color cars hide the dirt well. I imported a black Dodge van and it looks dirty by the end of the day you washed it.Also you will never see either car, impala or caprice here. I haven't seen one in 10 years. At a show you might see one but I haven't yet. Some of thelater caprices did have 5.7L motors. I'm looking for the car as a big cruiser and we love the American bench seats. None of our cars have these but theCaprice does. The Impala doesn't have these, only single seats. We have called about 50 cars but most have been in accidents or have considerable rust orundisclosed problems but when asked outright the seller divulges the info. The car doesn't have to meet all the criteria it just needs to be solid with norust or accidents and mega clean. If we can find a decent base we could have it sent to a professional and have the whole car uprated.

Ideally a 20,000 mile grandma car with plush leather interior
then I could add a 5.7L if it didn't have one
    then nice 20" ish wheels
all new suspension, brakes and anything else that would make the car more reliable.

    Cheers

I have never seen a 94-96 Caprice with a bench seat and factory leather. There were very few of these cars sold to the public because most people thought thembig and ugly. They were almost all police/fire dept. cars. Also, how are you going to get a 5.7 liter engine in the UK? Why dont you look at light colored 9C1Caprices with the LT1 from a rust free area of North America. They will likely have buckets to allow for computer equipment and a shotgun rack between theseats. So find a bench seat, have it bolted in before it leaves North America. Then redo the interior with leather when the car is in the UK. Seems like theeasiest most inexpensive solution. You can buy a minty 9C1 car for about 4000 U.S---mike

Will have it refurbed in USA including 5.7 if needed as it is so much cheaper and your guys know these cars inside out(will do the job right). It is harderthan it appears to buy the right car from distance. 9c1 are quite often battered .You are probably right though and I may end up going that route. Cheers
