old fishing stuff

Anybody know anything about how I might price some old fishing stuff, I'd sure appreciate the help. I have a few rods and reels and stuff that'sbetween 35 and 50+ years old that was my Dads. I am not a fisherman so I want to sell to someone who will appreciate the stuff. Please e-mail me at randr110698@shaw.ca if you can help. I will take pics for those interested people. The best way to find out the value is to check ebay completed auctions. There is some vintage fishing stuff that is quite collectible, and lots of common stuffthat is best used for fishing. Old wooden bass lures, musky lures etc, (especially with the glass eyes) are highly sought after. The later models that are madeof plastic not so much. Certain brands of bamboo fly rods and fly reels are very much in demand. Spinning reels don't have much collector value (exceptreally early mitchells and flugers, but some older conventional reels do. Like all other collectibles, condition is everything. Original boxes will sometimesalmost double the value. I hope that helps. Michael

Yeah, that stuff is far more diverse than redlines. There is no way to give a general answer. I'm not an expert (or even a novice) but I've dabbledwith a few things on occasion.

Most of the money seems to be in the lures with the reels and rods having to really be pretty special to bring much money. I've bought 45-50 year old glassfly rods for a few bucks. Bamboo brings decent money, glass not so much but for the price of a new one, they still work just fine.

My Grandfather had a lot of tackle and a couple rods he wanted to sell before he died.. I did some research on ebay and even listed the stuff with a reserve.His stuff was mint, he took really good care of it. Anyhow it didn't sell, and I asked him what he wanted to do. He knew I don't fish and wanted tomake sure someone that would appreciate it would get it.... Well someone did......ME. I treasure the rod and reel and tackle. It reminds me of Grandpa J everytime I look at it knowing that he loved fishing like I love working on cars. He had a true passion for it... Good luck with your research and I hope youconsider keeping some of it for the same reasons I keep mine.
